There are rescues for larger horses... Gentle Giants is one. For heavy riders an excellent option.

They only allow people that live with in 4 hrs of their facility to adopt any of their horses... I've been dying to adopt a draft and have been very interested in several of their horses bit sadly I live in florida so... yeah

I certainly do not mean anything negative nor accusatory, that being said it seems some of the buyers that are going to ride these sweet animals need to pick ones that can accommodate their size. Just saying. We all come in different sizes, shapes and weight.

What does that do to the horse's back, spine, legs and hooves putting someone too big for the horse!? Is that a caring adoption when you rescue then send the animal out to a poor future again.?!

Rule of thumb for all those wondering about weight of a person for a horse. A horse or pony can safely bear weight of UP TO 20% of it's own weight. Some of those people were too heavy to be riding some of those horses.

  • @suzanneribas3746
    @suzanneribas3746 Před 3 lety +35

You should include a weight limit for the rider of each equine concidering the animals' weight and constitution.

Personally, I think the person adopting shoulder should be lower than the horses shoulder. They carry most of their weight on their front legs and could possibly put, too much weight on them.

I wonder if Horse Plus trainers ever get a "bad feeling" when meeting some of these potential adopters and put the brakes on? I know they have a application process to adopt that covers a lot, but sometimes not the same thing as an in person meeting.

I hope you are still around and watching...they just recently posted a vlog about when they had a couple that was inexperienced with horses try and adopt one of the mostly unhandled horses. She wanted to train it herself with no prior experience to have a special "bond." But thankfully the Horse Plus crew stepped up together and intervened. Their unhandled horses have a waived adoption fee but also they need to go straight to a trainer and definitely not to a novice.
The lady really needed to consider that horses rarely stay a lifetime with a trainer yet will still have a great bond with their owner. She should start with a level 1 or 2 calm & trained horse that really needs a great home and work from there.
Of course the lady was defensive but so many things she said and emailed helped show she was not a good fit for adopting. Her not wanting the adoption center to know much about their finances, of course that's an important part of an adoption, otherwise ppl would easily get in over their heads and that's no good for the horse or for the cause.
Anyway, just the kind of vlog u were looking for a month ago when u posted here. I bet u already saw it!

Tawnee, I am a new follower of your rescue. I cry watching and celebrate, too.
However, I am disturbed that you are allowing people to adopt horses that are TOO SMALL for them and it will HURT the horses! I am not a slim girl, and although I have not had a horse since I was a teenager and am not an expert, even I see that these people too often are too large for the horses they want to adopt. They may be precious people, but not the precious person that should be riding these small horses.

Awww kitty. I'm so glad you made room for temporary shelters for cats & dogs too. There's such a huge need in rural areas, and so many callous people who just dump them when they become inconvenient.
Also, for all those people freaking out about the size of the gentleman... WE are only seeing the edited clips of all the total footage. We have NOT seen all the adoption application information. WE do not know the intended purpose of the adopted horses, whether the adopter will be the rider, or if they're being adopted for younger family members, or how many years of horse experience adopters have, or ANY other pertinent information. We're just seeing these short clips at the end of the adoption process.
WE don't have all the information. But Horse Plus DOES. I'm positive they've thoroughly checked their adopters out, and know how these horses & donkeys will be used. I'm confident they've made the right choice when they approved the adoptions.
If I was going to be adopting a horse for my family, I would damn sure want to ride that horse to check them out, even if I never intended to swing a leg over that horse again. A short ride by a larger person on a smaller horse will not hurt them. But it will tell an experienced rider how responsive and safe that horse is likely to be for their kids or grand kids. I have no problem with this.
Just ask yourself before you judge others... do you have ALL the information? If the answer is no, you need to trust Tawnee and Jason to do the right thing. I do.

I think the trainer is very good. The only thing I would suggest is teaching the horses not to move out right away. They should stand still when a person mounts and not move until asked. A new owner may not know this and could fall off if the horse just walks off like that.

    • @sparrowqq9949
      @sparrowqq9949 Před 2 lety +1

After9Design .If you watch more posts you will see that they do train the horses good behaviours, but some have been badly treated and taught bad behaviours which are hard habits to break, Any new owner worth their salt would find out about this during the adoption stage. They do work with the horses and use kindness not cruelty to rehabilitate their rescues.
Really criticism like this is unnecessary and does not do anyone any favours!

Do t get their method either, but they do a great job refeeding these horses/donks.

Yes, when they were talking about tiny ticks I was thinking deer ticks and was worrying about Lyme Disease.
Lyme disease can kill or debilitate you.
It is a terrible, terrible problem on the East Coast and all over.
It is a virus that is spread by tick bites.
      Always wear bug spray.
The deer tick is named after deer but are also tied to white footed mice, birds, even lizards.
Ticks can be in long grass in areas with plentiful rain, (Tennessee.)
Always check for ticks but these ticks are only about the size of a period in a sentence. It's better to just not be bitten in the first place.

I do a two bucket method with giving the cats a bath.
    One bucket with Warm water
One buccket of warm water with soap in it. And i hold cat in warm water for minute get nice abd wet then but then in soap water and get the cat all clean theb switch back over to warm water to rinse them off. Definitly less mess and easy to wash kitty cats better with less stress for them just in case you ever need to do it again. Love and regards Hannah

I love your videos and what you all do, very grateful for all your hard work, I felt the need to tell you about this,,,,, ( sticker remover) OIL,,, is an effective way to break down the adhesive that makes the auction stickers, adhere to the horse's fur.,,, If you can eat it,,, it’s got the green light. Apply a few drops of olive, vegetable, coconut, or sesame oil to the top of the sticker, and allow a few minutes for it to soak through and start breaking down the adhesive. Then slowly and gently peel one edge of the bandage away from your horse's fur,,, then move on to the other side. Go slowly and work the bandage little by little out of the fur. If it isn’t coming off easily, apply more oil, wait another few minutes, then try again. This method should also remove the sticky adhesive from your horse's fur,,,, I hope this helps,, 💖💖💖

I find it hard to believe that a valuable Siamese kitten would be dumped on the roadside...

Dose it bother anyone else when all these horses walk away as the people are getting on? That's always the fist thing I work on.

I’m not sure if blue dawn is cheaper than your shampoo, but it works just as good! In case you can’t find your usual flea/tick shampoo.

Please don’t scruff the cats,it’s traumatic for them. Its really not needed unless the cat is being aggressive. Not trying to be rude, just advice,I’m a small animal vet nurse.I don’t know too much about horses,I decided to specialize in small furries, but u guys seem to be doing a good job in TN👍🏻It is concerning to see larger people getting on horses that are too small though.Maybe u could clarify if they are intended for kids or different riders going forward.Might put people/supporters at ease.Keep up the good work!🐾

how do you find out about a horse like a mini named cowboy. I inquired about a white pony with braids at the auction and never heard any thing. I think you do a great job. I donate every month. Linda
