- With two team members trapped in icy, snowy roads states away from the shelter, the remaining Horse Shelter Heroes had to plan for the auction rescue and intake without them. The auction was a huge success with 19 precious lives being rescued from the slaughter pipeline!
A rescued horse purchased in the parking lot had the worst broken leg you have ever seen. The old injury was just heartbreaking to see, and the x-rays were worse.

May Doc live forever and stay the gentle soul that He is ❣️
I bought a 5yo half-broken starved buckskin filly who was going to go to slaughter the next day. She came off the float head shy, starving, beaten and terrified and nearly 4 months later and I can put her halter on in her paddock and ride her up to the gate bareback with no issues. She has so much potential and after a little farrier care she is completely sound and the sweetest thing ever. The work you guys are doing is incredible and as I told my dad when he was trying to talk me out of it "it doesn't change the world. but it changes the world for the horse" which is so incredibly true. Thank you for doing what you do.
Loved your comment 💚.
By sharing what you have done you may just change the world ?! evey little about counts 😘.
@@kathygilmartin6897 Thank you ❤
It changed the world for the Horse... Wow
Changing one animals life at a time 🥰
Thank you for what you did by buying that filly. What you did makes you a horse Hero too.
By euthanizing the horses, you’re allowing them to know kindness and a loving hand, rather than going down in slaughter truck to be trampled. Thank you for not hesitating to put them down.
Your vet is fantastic!
Your right
At least these horses can go in a place surrounded by people who love and care for them and they can know peace.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🐴🐴🐴
I have an ingrained habit of using the term euthanasia rather than “ putting him/ her down “. Euthanasia translates to “ peaceful death”. It helps me to cope...
Anybody who bashes you for euthanizing severely injured, suffering horses, has never had to deal with one. The right thing to do isn't always easy -- but it's always right. Keep on doing the right thing.
Don’t get angry at the rescue that picked up the pieces. Get angry at the owners who instead of keeping that animal or ending their suffering dumped them at auction.
Amen
czcams.com/video/MakVOQj25Bo/video.html
@Karen Bailey some people in the comments are saying they put too many of the horses down.
Right!!!!!!!!!!1
@Karen Bailey yeah I think people see it as you rescue them just to kill them. Rather then this poor animal was suffering and would have suffered more still. It’s kinder to say goodbye then ignore a animal because you know you can’t do much else for him/her. They do an amazing job at least most of us appreciate that 💗
Hayley you are absolutely right. This organization is AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL for all they do Thank you for helping all the horses in need of true tender loving care. You all are wonderful people. The donations are so wonderful!
Over breeding.. no restrictions, people who cannot afford a horse... lots of issues. The horses deserve the kind of care they are getting from you guys and you guys deserve major thanks and blessings❤️
No such thing. What we have is a lack of responsible owners, rather than too many horses.
@@Pro3110
No, there is definitely and overabundance of horses in some areas due to ignorance and possibly denial.
They don't only have yo have ONE reason for why this is true. It can be both reasons.
May God bless all of you for saving as many of his beautiful creatures as you can. 💜💜💜
anyone who wants to keep alive a suffering animal is the true abuser. You make such a good point; so many rescues will only take the potentially adoptable horses! Although ANY sort of rescue is admirable, you guys are extremely special in the fact that you take many non-adoptable horses from slaughter, even if it is just to give them a warm place with love for only a day. Probably the best day of their life. Massive amount of respect ♥️
That’s what rescue shelters do.. they keep suffering animals alive to see if they can help them, if they aren’t able to help them then they put them down.
@@harveyshmarvey is
@@mariaadamez8813 what? Hun I don’t own a horse, I just ride them. And keeping a suffering animal alive is only to try and end their suffering, by medicine and using casts for broken bones, etc.
@@xyz12345457 Im guessing you meant this to be a comment and not a reply to me? Im confused about the context and how it pertains to my comment 😅
Yes
I absolutely love what you guys do I spent greater part of my life doing the same in West Virginia I now live in Tennessee see and don't have the opportunity to be involved So I just wanna honestly tell you every video I watch I'm always crying it puts me back to all the great memories of being with them
no one is talking about how great of a person doc is, i love his personality and seeing him in the videos is something i always look forward to! such a great vet, especially since he ordered pizza for everyone!!
How can people do that to those precious animals? Put them down if they have that bad of an injury and no hope of getting better. My heart breaks for them to be in that much pain.
I sob when I see the condition of some of these horses. Heartbreaking. It takes a lot of love for these rescuers to be able to provide the horses relief when they are suffering.
I agree 👍. It was heartbreaking for me to put my girl down but at 30-35 years old and having someone throw triple washed oats where she could get them twisted her gut. Dr said she didn't have a very good chance to even survive the surgery at her age.
Thank you for saving the sick/injured ones too. They deserve a final kindness the most. There are moments now and again that I hate people. Humans are the cruelest of all. And then there’s people like you, you give me hope. Thank you.
There is an old saying "No hoof, no horse" Sad but true that most of this could be avoided by regular care. The owners should be prosecuted. Thanks to Horse Plus these horses no longer have to suffer.
So true. I'm honestly baffled by the number of random people commenters have argued with because this person INSISTED that Horse Plus was basically bad for euthenizing unfixable cases. They claim things like being able to heal insane breaks and hoof problems that not even a magician could fix.
It's just sad how woefully uneducated people are, yet they feel they're qualified to make these kinds of claims.
I honestly kind of wish the US forced people to take a horse care coarse to get horses. They require such important care and even the smallest issue with certain things could ruin them....
You have the best group of people working together, amazing and incredible for the horses!
Even though non of these horses were mine I still have tears in my eyes... How could anyone harm or let the horses suffer? They deserve better than that and we humans are constantly failing in appreciating animals' lives.
Thank you beautiful souls for letting the horses know they were loved at their last minutes and for letting them go in peace by the last act of kindness, so they can canter on the eternal green pastures. I am so thankful that you understand the hard choices and don't hesitate to end the suffering for these beautiful creatures. Bless all of you
That poor mini it breaks my heart that people let it get this far
Horse rescue is not what you folks do, its who you folks are. Not many people in this world can say that their lives make a difference to others, but you all make each and every one of these horses lives better. Period. As far as Doc is concerned... if he ever comes up for adoption... we have a spot in my barn for him!!! Stay dry and warm! Love from Massachusetts
Lol
Thank you for all the wonderful love and kindness you show these beautiful beings! It's a cruel world but we can't give up, everything counts!!! Love you animal heroes!!!
I applaud you for rescuing horses from suffering and doing the loving and responsible thing others would not.
It's rediculous that you get grief because you clean up others people's messes. You that the time, effort, money and emotional toll to do the right thing.....you should be thanked and supported not attacked.
Life isn't always fair, sweet or easy. You can only do the best you can for those you can help.
Keep up the good work.
katmandu Dawn: you know why they attack these people because the people who attack these people DON"T HAVE THE BALLS THEY ARE COWARDS and like to think they are big and bad and go after them who rescue horses from auction.
I love horses I would die for one I no my mom would never get us one it is a little expensive I am only 8 and i am saving my money
I have a lot but i need more I don't have a horse but the owner worked hard for that horse they should be happy with it and if you don't agree in am fine but this is my only time to show I LOVE HORSES IF you don't like horses I don't no who you are I LOVE HORSES I PRAY EVERY NIGHT saying I need a horse in my life please if you do not want t your horse think about sending it to me please I will take good care of your horse PLEASE I love horses

Thank you doing this service to so many who deserved so much more.
Thank you for all your love and kindness ❤🙏
Doc is so precious. The world needs more vets like him!
So much love and appreciation being sent to all of those horses and your team… the mustang especially in this video just busted my heart into a million pieces.. and that sweet mini. I can’t imagine how hard it is to make the decision that these irresponsible, heartless owners could not make.
Don’t beat yourself up. You are being responsible for the care of theses babies. Thank you!
Last act of kindness is the hardest thing an animal owner can do. Bless you for your work.
You’re doing the right thing. I’ve done the same for my animals over the years and it’s the easiest, hard decisions I’ve made. To leave them alive and suffering would be much, much more than I could bear. What an amazing Doc you have for these beautiful animals!! The world needs more caring people like this and there are so many humans that don’t deserve animals.
You had some stunning horses in that rescue, I just can’t understand why people wouldn’t want to look after them. I’ve always wanted horses all my life but have never got one because I know I can’t afford to have one and give it the best life I could. Thank you horse angels and doc for what you do for the horses. 👍🏻😊🇬🇧
You are so courageous & filled with compassion. I'm grateful you relieve these horses and pony's from the stresses of the auction/slaughter pipeline. Fair Play to you all.
Thank you for taking care of the most pitiful of the lot, and not just allowing them to be shipped to Mexico for slaughter! They've suffered enough, and I appreciate that you believe that too! Your Doc is the BEST!
Doc is the cutest! i love him, hes so kind and careing. the horses are in great hands as always
patricia here--- thank you for saving the ones you could and giving mercy to those who needed it... loves to all
I would love to see Animal Planet pick you guys up for a new show. The work you guys do is amazing and incredibly admirable. If yall got a following that big, it could help others see the cruelty that can occur, but how people can help change the narrative.
I 100% agree that @animalplanet should put them on TV. Their message could reach so many more people and might help get the big lick shut down.
Thank you for providing these precious horses with the last act of kindness and doing it in such a way that they know they are cared for. You are wonderful.
Thank you 😊 for being able to do the last act of kindness when they have suffered so long
It’s absolutely beautiful what everyone does to save horses. Takes a strong heart, determination, lots of donations and a whole lot of volunteers. Bless you all for saving as many as you can ❤️🙏🏼
Thank you for what you're doing, you're helping those who can be helped and ending the suffering of those who suffer, that's what I call a real hero...
What a veterinarian with a huge heart
Thank you so much Diane.
I so love and admire people with money who spend it saving and caring for others who need help. In some cases it's horses and in some cases it's cats and dogs and sometimes exotic wildlife.
You are amazing, for rescuing all of those horses, and allowing the ones who couldn't be saved, to leave this world, with love, and dignity , and knowing that you cared enough. It's heart breaking to see any animal suffer, especially like the horses you rescued, who are dumped like trash, by their horrid past owners. Thank you for your kindness to these beautiful animals. xx
I wonder how the horses must feel when they get realised out of the trailer, the feel of being of being out in the open with grass and mud again. It makes me so happy on what you have done. Well done 👍🏻 😊
Ya'll have restored my faith in rescues. So many are too interested in quantity of days vs. Quality. God Bless ya'll for letting horses go instead of keeping them alive just because you can. Those horses are lucky to be rescued by ya'll.
It makes me so happy to know that they are rescuing all these animals and doing the best things for them
It’s amazing the horse w/ broken foot is alive.🐴
Seeing the fear and dull, lifelessness in such innocent creatures' eyes just makes me want to scream my lungs out. Thank you for taking these wounded soldiers, even if it is only to just say goodbye. As for those who would bash the job you guys do, I want to see them in the auctions with you, seeing what you see, and why you do what you do, and then have them look you in the eyes and still bash you. Cowards let these animals end up with this cruel life. Bashers, in my opinion, are just as cowardly.
I do not know how any of these horse owners can live with their selves, THANK YOU for doing the hard work and helping these poor babies out of their pain, and helping all the others find homes and hopefully good homes where they will be loved REALLY loved for the rest of their lives,
Doc is truly a blessing for you and your animals. Treasure him.
You are doing an amazing job... putting those sweet souls down and making their last day a great one full of hay and kind people is so good. Thank you for doing what you do.
You are still my hero Tawnnee many blessings to you and your rescue 💕
I love that you’re saving them, hopefully going to better place
I only found this channel today. Your Vet is GREAT!! I LOVE your work, have seen a good few videos today.......had to cry here and there......Keep up this great work!!! It is unreal what man does to animals......All the best wishes from Germany! Your work is awesome!!!
You can't help but love Doc. He is wonderful to the horses and people around him. What a great guy.
I stumbled on to your videos last night and I’m amazed at the work your doing. My heart is breaking for these beautiful animals.
Damn, that mustang was one tough old guy to have actually survived long enough to "heal" that leg. But he is happy you did the last good thing anyone could do for him. Not sure what's worse, coward owners that can't do right by their horses and have the guts to be there to say goodbye when they send them to the Sky Pasture, instead putting them through the stress and pain of actually traveling in such condition, or the ones who just don't care about tossing a horse away.
I haven't read all the comments, but have seen nothing but positive and support for the soul-wrenching service you provide these horses. Yours is yet another place I would gladly support if I could.
@@lottiedotty8262 I also wondered at first if he could have lived on at the rescue, but I thought a lot about it before commenting, and even though he was managing to get around on that leg, we aren't living in his body and have no idea how humidity or extreme cold weather etc. would pain him. I am in near constant pain in various joints so am always wondering how arthritic or otherwise compromised animals are feeling when it's humid or frigid. We may have been seeing him on a not-so-bad day. And we all know how prey animals, and probably mustangs especially, try to hide any weakness or vulnerability. I did feel bad that he'd made it that far only to be put down, but it probably wouldn't have been long before he started to go downhill just due to his age. And these people do have limited resources. They gave him his dignity and a peaceful end.
Doc reminds me a lot of my grandpa who always jokes around and sees the good things in bad situations!
The newly-gelded sorrel is a handsome boy. Please keep up this great (if emotionally difficult at times) work! The gray has a nice head.
Thank you fot saving them
Thank you for making the difficult decisions that have to be made. I am thankful that they were in your hands and not making it to the
Slaughter house to go thru that horrid experience . . . Thank you for caring.
Thank you for doing the right thing for the injured horses. And for all the care and feed for the other horses. You are doing the right thing. Keep up this humane work.
Lord I wish they'd pass a law to stop all this suffering . Thanks Horse Plus for all you do. I just hope somewhere in the very near future people that let there animals suffer like this. They should be charged with this. We should be able to go back with all the paperwork at auctions and find these trouble people and charge them with abuse. May the lord bless Horse Plus for all they do
I always cry when I see them coming to you. Everything is done to save them, and the final act for an animal is also a beautiful thing and you stop suffering in a humane way You are angels on Earth and so is the vet
You are all such incredible people maybe humanity isn't so bad. Thank you for saving these beautiful creatures.
Thank you so much for making these horses last moments feel loved! They can’t all be saved but at least you are doing the right thing by them!
I have to say this week's video made me cry. It hurt my heart the see how bad some of these sweet horses were suffering😢 Thank you for sending their pain and suffering.

I love the work you and Dr Scott do. Thank you for all them beautiful babys you save. God bless you all
It’s scary knowing that we’re living and surrounded by all theses people that have zero compassion.
Poor sweet, precious babies. Thank God for you all !!!
You are NOT killing horses!! Thank God for people like you. I keep donating every month. Thank you for all your hard work .
They are in a much better place and in fear and pain no longer. There are always haters. Thank you fir saving these babies
Thank you for doing the right thing. The last act of kindness is what good horse people do. Doc is cool.
Thank you for your last gift for those poor suffering souls
GOD bless all of you for what you are doing for these majestic animals. After I retire from my job in less than 10 years, I want to help!!!
I just can’t understand why people let horses get into this state. It breaks my heart. I’ve owned my horse for 18 years she is now 26, has cushings and arthritis in her hocks but I would never put her through the hell of going through a sale. It’s a shame the auctions don’t have a standard that horses have to be in to go through. You guys do an amazing job, ignore all the keyboard warriors! Much love from the uk xx
Same. I have a 23 year old mare that I just paid a bunch of money so she could move across the country with me in as much comfort as possible. I can't imagine sending her to slaughter.
I had my mare till she was 30 yrs old. She died of old age but she never suffered. She was good one day and was dead the next. She died in her sleep but I didn't even know I was going to lose her. Her heart probably gave out. She knew she was loved though.💞💞💞
I have a 25 year old Arab and a 31 year old rescue Welsh pony. I put my younger Arab to sleep at the end of Feb this year aged 24! I keep my babies for life, I knew this when I got them. They’re not disposable items! I had my younger Arab for 20 years. I would never send them to auction, I no longer ride them but they are my pets my friend and my family. We look after each other 💖❤️
My mare was in her mid 30's when we made the decision to let her go. She had serious arthritis and had started to have trouble getting up. I really don't get how people can just throw their horses away to an aution. I could never have done that to my girl. This rescue does a great thing saving these horses from further pain and doing what their owners should have done.
I love the extended behind the scenes of picking them up from auction.
You are so awesome.I’m thankful to you all🐺❤️
It takes really special people, with huge hearts to do what you do. Super Heros!
There were several who had to be put down...but the fetlock injury was so obvious can't imagine where he was hidden so long, that no one noticed and called the law!!! SO horrific! Makes me want to hurry and put them down when I know the pain they are in! Thank God you are willing to buy the worst ones to do the last act of kindness for them and the unfortunate reality is that the people who had them were NOT punished for letting them live with things like broken hips!! Bless you all, it's so much hard work, but SO worth it to save the ones you can!!
Calling the law is often a waste of time...
Such great hard, heartbreaking, tiring, expensive, rewarding work! Hugs to each of you😊
You have the best vet ever. Thank you all for everything you do. I can’t wait to adopt from you guys one day.
Great job everyone! Your doc is a sweetie! (NOT just for the pizza, though it did raise him in the ratings!) Best wishes to you!
God bless your team and Doc for the work you do. The world needs more people like you. It brings joy to my heart that there is hope, somewhere, for some of these beautiful animals. You are a voice for those that can’t speak for themselves and a beacon of light in a world seemingly so full of darkness. Thank you.
It’s nuts to me that someone would put all that time into gentling a mustang just to let it suffer with an untreated broken leg long enough for it to heal like that then send it to auction. People disgust me.
These poor horses, it makes me tear up every time. Especially the gelding with the broken leg and the little mini with the broken hip. I live on the opposite end of the country but I hope to adopt from you guys when the time comes.
May God bless all of you for what you do. Shalom🌹

I love everything you do and I love that you call it the last act of kindness as that’s what it truly is. ❤️. I also hate the big lick industry and it’s illegal In most states for a reason. Those xrays should be shared and her story should be told
