    I inherited a BEAUTIFUL 35++ year old monstera (named Ruthie, after her late original owner) that had been growing outside. It's got leaves that are 2.5-3' long and it just put out two flowers that are going to turn to fruit!
    When the fruit is done I plan on cutting it in half; the lower leaves were REALLY ripped up in transit and it's just really not attractive. I also want to have a giant monstera outside in my yard as well so splitting it seems like the best plan.
    Right now she's in my window corner/flopping over my side table, but I have a two story wall and my partner is going to build a ladder so it can climb up freely. The room doesn't get the greatest light so I'll also be hanging those (pretty, imo) LG grow pendant lights around it with some smart timers. I have a huge beautiful pot I snagged for $40 at a big box store before the price quadrupled for that style and I can't wait to set everything up.
    I love you showing yours. Even though I have three (my other two haven't reached the extreme leaf size as my biggest/are really juvenile) it's one of my favorite plants and I love watching them.
    Please keep making videos. You have a great on air personality and it's just really nice to see someone in an apartment making it look lovely and wonderful.
    Also your mom seems really sweet.

    Im actually thinking of buying a monstera BUT I would prefer to start with a REALLY tiny monstera and watch it grow into a big plant. Granted, it will take yearssss to be a big plant like yours but I absolutely love having small plants turn into bigger versions of themselves LOL idk if anyone else can relate😅

      I’m doing the same! I bought one in March that had only one fenestrated leaf and now it has about 12 fenestrated leaves! Still very small compared to hers but it’s a good start 💚

      I bought a 30cm baby monstera from Ikea.. 4 years later it produced 40cm fully penetrated leafs and is almost at an apartment ceiling height. As a noob, in the process I overwatered it several times, overfertilized and had to cut half the stems still it managed to grow into a very full n most beaut plant I own. I recommend to rotate it 1/4 every few weeks to avoid a problem showcased in this vid. don't be afraid to experiment with soil mixing till you find best suited for your climate .)

      Bought mine last year and it's going from bad to worse. I think there is not enough light. The few leafs it produces in early summer are smaller and smaller and droopier. Fml

    • @KatrinaBell
      @KatrinaBell Před rokem

      They grow really fast if you give them something to climb up and the proper light situation. I've cut off as many leaves as my newest big ones have grown in under 10 months. I get a new leaf every 3 - 4 weeks, and my smaller vining monstera has grown from a 10" pot to 5 vines that are all over 6 feet tall, and I've taken cuttings, and every time I cut 2 or 3 new shoots come out. My apartment gets all day bright indirect light, so that helps, but you can use a light bulb to help them along too.

    • @daleandrews3552
      @daleandrews3552 Před rokem +2

      Oh I can, and it's fascinating. And rewarding too. So many of my friends tell me that they kill plants and some have even given them to me to nurse for them! I enjoy it and they're amazed at how I can not only keep them alive, but actually under my care, they flourish! It's just a matter of having knowledge about each plant and their particular needs, I guess.

    I wish I would've found your video the other day when I was wanting to clean up 3 of mine that had aerial roots growing all over the living room! I read that it wouldn't hurt my 30yo plants, so I went for it and cut off almost all of the aerial roots ( they were like 12 feet long and under French door crevices and clinging to my wood floors!) and tied the branches/leaves up. I would've loved to have known about that clear ribbon you used. Like your room, it now looks so much cleaner and more spacious and i really feel my monsteras are happier. 😊

    Really big plant: “is it gonna pull the stake out?”
    RBP’s Hubby: “no”
    Me: “you’ll be surprised” 👀

    i like to stick the aerial roots into water as they grow, putting them in when theyre that long would probably cause them to rot, but this decreases the need for watering and lets the plant put out way more leaves :)

      putting them back into the substrate/pot is better in the long run.

    I normally trim those aerial roots. But the leaves will always turn towards the sunlight.

    I think they need repotting, and try to propagate them a bit!

    My Monsterra is slightly bigger than your mum's and getting bigger by the day. I just moved house and that was "interesting" with my small collection of 22 plants. We'll be moving again before the year is out and I'm dreading it. With all your big plants, moving house will be interesting 😅. How long have you had your monsterras?

    You're never supposed to cut of more then 25% of aerial roots at a time. It shocks the plant, bc it is using those roots for moisture in the air.

    IMO this is a big monstra borsigiana and not a deliciosa looking at the internodal spacing and leaf size of the plant.

    Pls. don't cut the roots of Monstera, maybe you can braided them loosely n tack it under the stand where it is sitting.
