      As Bryan mentioned, it's not the most secure option, but it's tough to strike a balance when it comes to combination locks. The version he's using in the video is a heavy-duty style, which is better than the standard 175. As others have mentioned, a fence lock is just a layer of security and more to have a criminal pass up your place in favor of a softer target. Being able to bypass a lock isn't as big of a deal on something like a fence, that you could just jump over. ~ Rob

    I keep multiple large dogs as well as cameras in my fenced compound and we are always heavenly armed so I don't think my 8 ft tall security wall has the normal draw backs

    A tad more expensive alternative to what's been suggested: use a padlock with an replaceable core. Select a core with a restricted key profile (such as Schlage Primus, Abloy Protec2 or Evva 4KS) which will render key duplication more difficult.
    When selecting your padlock, chose a model with a ball bearing locking mechanism. Those are not by-passable with shims.

    I did away with access to my backyard(I removed the gate itself . You have to jump my fence or go through the inside of my house. I’m not saying what else you have to do to get inside my house lol. What good is security of you post it all over the internet

    My gate has door chime on it makes me aware of some enters the back yard. Figured if I lock it someone will just jump over. If you have a lock on the gate a sensor (chime )on the other side like the ones going into a liquor store would be nice.

      Sometimes people are too out of shape or injured to hop over a fence.

    If your local laws permit it, put signs on the outside that make it clear that deadly force will be employed if you climb this fence.

    Instead of a gate, attempt to install a door with a handle lock and deadbolt such as the Bowley lock, if you use a gate secure it with a hardened steel padlock with an anti drill body, hardened shackle with shroud and a recessed keyway to make picking more difficult, good one to look at is the Abloy PL 362. Make it difficult to hop over your fence/wall by planting thorny bushes along the outside perimeter as well under every window and also make the wall/fence around 6' tall, possibly line the inside with thorny bushes or large and uneven stones for them to land on and injure themselves if they make it over. Use motion sensor floodlights. If you can afford it, motion sensor cameras that alert you when detection occurs in a time frame you set. You can set traps/electric fencing but unfortunately they're illegal. If you decide to, handle the burglar yourself after being caught and NEVER call the police, you'll be in deep shi*. Also, have an oxy based cleaner to remove the invisible traces of blood in case they snitch and bring the cops to the "crime scene"

    Lock your gates and use a master lock dude those locks are the easiest pieces of junk to get into out of any other rock how about using tack strips on the top of the Fenceline planting roses desert plants with thorns or my favorite sharpen rebar protruding out of concrete bags then cured, labeled “Yard Art” they make a very formidable obstacle for anyone trying to jump a fence

  • @wjf213
    @wjf213 Před 3 lety +5

    Good video. If I lived in town, and I had a fence, I'd run an electric fence on the inside at the top so if some one reached up and grabbed the top of the fence to jump over, they won't hold on long. A simple electric fence like we used on our dairy farm, will stop someone without killing them.
    I'm looking forward to this series. If I could make one suggestion, maybe adjust the camera so we can see the white board head on and get a better view??? Keep up the great work.

    that lock has such a terrible design flaw that it would literally be easier to shove a shim into the combination wheel and pop the lock than the effort it would take to jump the fence. I get what your trying to say about something being better than nothing but he takes almost a minute of video to talk about how good the lock is and how it’s not able to be shimmed. except that it’s super easy to bypassing the lock by shoving a shim into the combo wheel. unless master lock updated the design which I doubt, this lock is a terrible recommendation. He even made a video on how easy it is to bypass the lock in on this channel czcams.com/video/UhNvC38C2FU/video.html it takes like 2 seconds. That’s enough “time and opportunity” for anyone to get into.
    Any lock is better than no lock but come on. In a series about security your recommendation is the master lock 175? This is a joke.

      Yes Masterlooks are junk but most thief’s ain’t going to mess with it anyway. Why take the hassle and risks when you just can move along to someone that might not even have a gate?

      I have 2 rottweilers. Loving dogs if they like you. If they don't know you, they'll chew you up. I don't recommend if you have people coming and going. My kids are grown and live elsewhere. You need to be a dog person and dedicate a lot of your time to them. And money. Their not cheap. It's so worth it in my opinion. There is a few problems though. Because I think of them like family, I take them both with me a lot. So..... I'm sure you can see the problem with that. Plus, they get a bit spoiled. So.... Back to having a secure fence comes into play again. If their with me? Their home security is ineffective. See my dilema? I've fallen in love with my security guards. I don't need personal security. I'm 6'5" 260 + lbs. I'm an iron worker by trade so my dogs stay home when I'm at work. Weekends, Im out and about with my puppies. There's no way I could leave them. Are you kidding me? They'd be mad and chew stuff up. I don't blame em. I would too. So I'm back to square 1 again. Hahahaha! As an iron worker, I know how to weld and can get a good price on steel fencing. Shit! My backyard has plenty of 1"×1" square tubing and everything else you'd aquire in my quarter century of my trade. I do like the privacy factor. Right now my yard has a good wood fence. But my neighborhood has gone to shit. I live amongst tweaker heaven. (Meth addicts) I'm in a pickle and I don't want to move. My house is payed for. Just payed it off. It's really nice not having a mortgage . Any advise will be considered. Good day fellow honest Americans!
