  • Now that the coilovers have settled in, I thought it was time to give them a proper review.
    They're inexpensive, so does that make them bad?
    SPOILERS: No.

    The differences at the rear can be bushings or the fueltank affecting the springs because of weight

    I also have the 10mm drop bushings.On koni strs and h and r springs.What makes the power flex bushings great is the poly cap that sits under the strut cap.It creates way less deflection over bumps.Why they dont sell them separate is beyond me.The same effect can be achieved by pulling the top cap off the strut and going to homedepot and sizing toilet gaskets to fit under them.But all in all they are really nice.They eat up potholes like a champ.

    3:57 if you take the rear beam off there are 4 bolts holding the beam mounts to the car, loosen them off and there is a little bit of adjustment in the mount/bracket as it has elongated holes, but i think it goes forward and backwards, not left and right.

    Used to have at 1 point KW's coil over kit which were harsh as hell
    then switched to Bilstein coil over complete kit as it was slightly softer compound ... but that was back in the day ...
    But I'd Suggest that you roll your inner arches ...
    Have fun motoring and be safe :)

    Did you get an alignment after installing the coils?? And the rear axle beam does sit closer to the right side of the car. When I had my racelands the right side would rub when I loaded my car up, the left would rarely ever rub.

  • @Itsmedansee
    @Itsmedansee Před 4 lety

    On some old cars there are some tolerances. I know corsa B's were the same, I found out when I put 20 mm spacers on and looked it up on tinternet. One side was flush, the other was 3 mm out. It's just the way they're made and machinery that makes them. beams and bushes can't be perfect all the time hense quality control checks and recalls.. you need shims and camber and maybe think about some deep dish 16x8js

    I bought a straight grill in an effort to debadge. Installed grill, installed goofy little plastic semi-circle to fill the space in the hood (bonnet), loved the grill, hated the plastic semi-circle, ordered a bra to cover the space, the bra looked really stupid, took the bra off, went to a collision repair shop near home and asked for an estimate to fill the space and re-paint the hood, after much consultation with the owner, they decided they did not want the job. They said they could wrap the hood in CF vinyl, but the empty space would still show under the vinyl, at a cost of $225 USD. Went home, removed the new badge-less grill, wrapped it carefully in the original packing material, sent it back, put the original grill back on, tossed the bra up on a shelf in the garage where I don’t have to SEE it (EBAY, NON RETURNABLE). Then I sprayed the badge with dark grey plasti-dip. That looked really bogus, so I peeled it off. Then I decided to stop pissing away money on the car. I’d still like to de-badge, but...I also keep checking the ads for a mk7 GTI R.

    It’s the rear axle bushes, they’re always overlooked but will your getting the rear steer gaps on the rear. Get the estate version. They’re firmer but not poly hard. Change the front axle bushes to R32. The rear R32 don’t fit unless your running 4motion.

  • @calm4477

    The biggest difference would be in the shock absorbers, you have new shock absorbers with your coil overs. You could have had the same result if you fitted new shock absorbers with your springs.

  • @pitchwayne
    @pitchwayne Před 4 lety

    4 reasons for your rear sitting kinda funny.
    1. The gas tank can have a small effect on it when it's full or near empty
    2. Your rear beam is bent
    3. Your rear beam bushings are shot/heavily worn
    4. Your rear strut mounts are worn.
    I'd be more willing to guess either 2 or 3. But reason 1 always will have a very slight effect on most cars with cheaper suspension set ups

  • @heroichitsuji
    @heroichitsuji Před 3 lety

    the coils feel better than the springs because the coils come with dampers made to be paired with the springs. The problem with lowering springs is that they use the factory shocks which are intended for use with factory springs as far as ride height and dampening/spring rates. This is why just lowering springs tend to result in a bouncy ride.

    • @Marks-Garage

      @@BWTV Make sure you do the final tightening of all the bolts with the weight of the car on the suspension. Even if you have to jack up the car and stick some blocks of wood under the wheels to get enough height to get a ratchet and spanner under there. If you tighten the bolts with no preload on the suspension the bushes twist and you get uneven ride heights. Best way to do it is on a 4 post lift. Also adjusting ride heights has a huge effect on suspension geometry so make sure you get that set up otherwise you are losing alot of the benefits of aftermarket coilovers
