Haha, I had also a teacher that constantly told us this. I always learned and did my homework, ended up with four university degrees and then one day I wanted to have a business, opened a bed and breakfast and because my workers were constantly sick or on vacation I ended up cleaning toilets. I was thinking a lot about my teacher those moments.

@jay fine I think that hits the nail on the head. It’s fundamentally about a reverence for intellectualism. Any family can be intellectual, of course. But as far as broad cultural norms, I think Jewish culture fairly unique in respect to valuing intellectualism as a whole culture.

See the answer to anybody's success is doing whatever you do consciously. In the case of kids, parenting needs to be conscious rather than compulsive which results from comparison, competition, and adoption of social norms. When you bring a child into this life, you are bringing a whole new genius and a whole new personality. A blank paper, if you would. If you choose to write down the garbage that on that piece of paper that doesn't work, then you will end up having a child, that is very troubled emotionally and mentally, like most are today.
