  • “A road for Happiness passes through self fulfilment”
Raphael introduces us to an innovative take on education. Bringing a new mindset to Chinese parents to help them provide their children with a healthier and happier environment to grow and flourish.
In 2015 Raphael launched Genis & Genius (G&G), aiming to build upon 2000 years of Jewish traditional educational mindset and wisdom, to expose Chinese parents into a new and innovative method to educate and raise their children at home. As so Chinese parents will be able to fuse together traditional values with innovative mindset to provide their children with a healthier and happier environment to grow and flourish.

The difficulty is in applying that principle.
It's easy to stick to values espoused and reiterated by the same group of people.
It's much harder if you think that values could change, in principle, based on the culture around you.
In Judaism, you can find values articulated and written down, analyzed, scrutinized, and preserved through peer pressure from the leaders to follow their lead.
Where else can you find that?
The average way to live is to live to enjoy yourself. It's very hard to live based on static values.

5:03 is sadly relatable because a lot of cultures are honor based rather than value based... meaning values (such as happiness) are a means to an end, that end being honor...

When he said that "in china a child is an investment" at 10:45. It hurts because most indian parents are same. the most depressing part is comparision with other children whose grades are good then yours... it get to a point where everyone is better than their own child. Comparision destroy child mental strength as he/she feel that may be fault lies within me....this types of feeling destroy child confident and he/she feel that no need to learn new things as i am doom to fail in it.

Can any Jewish person verify if this is true? I’m Chinese but I don’t agree with everything he says; it’s quite biased. Our children are loved, cared for, and taught to be compassionate and emphatic. At least that’s what my family taught me.

You'll never validate or refute such a wide arguments. You'll always find positive and negative examples of families for each of his point in any country and culture.
From my experience what he is presenting as "jewish style" is an idealized picture of "how would ideal modern israeli parents raise their children".

My Friend Raphael as an Asian have to admit u speak the facts - The Asians, most African countries, their people, their parents, their very governments are very very different from jews.. we hate our selves and thats why we carelessly over populate just to compete and show off against our egotistical neighbours! why else do u think arranged marriage exists in our part of the world.. we don't marry or have children with a clear future goal about our culture or values, infact our people think even that the choice of when to marry should be dictated and controlled than be a choice of free will or intelligent decision. We want happiness but don't believe in happiness first before success! meaning we are not happy with who we are at a basic level.

Hello Raphael, in your speech, you have mentioned that Chinese regard their kids as a kind of investment and cited that “养儿防老”.
In my mind, you know some of the Chinese culture and your Chinese seems quite good. However, you maybe misunderstand or miss the vital and core value of the “养儿防老”. It doesn't simply mean that you invest much to your kids in order to get a better return in the future when you are old. You will get a better understanding if you really know the value and meaning of the “孝道”. Which is also very important in your own culture however the Chinese will place it in the number one place.
And one more thing, you are not absolutely right is the way Chinese parents give their kids the best teachers, the best courses, the best environment, except the "love". No!! We pay the love and accompany not less than you do, to our kids. Our kids, of course, have their rights to choose, to make decisions. More importantly, we educate them via our actions and daily life.
Thank you very much, Raphael! I have got a great learning from your speech.

I would love for you to break down those Chinese characters (since I do not know Chinese but would like to engage in the discussion). As far as what you said about paying love, would you say this collectively about the Chinese culture or just your household? I ask because my family is very close to what he described as the Chinese parenting style because it is honor based..
