Me: goes to Walmart
Makoto Naegi - That's pretty funny, but true as well. I do the same. However, a few times, just a few years back, I decided to grow my own. They would have overtaken my small garden, so I followed the 'guerilla gardening' style, and planted a few here and there, all around town, in forgotten spots of fairly decent soil, often in the woods, near the beach, with as much sun as I could find. Planted late spring, just from the eyes of red, yukon and russetts, that I let go. I didn't fuss (or pay for), seed potatoes.
The interesting thing is that I suffered no theft. If they were tomatos or squash of some sort, that people could see the fruit or such above ground, there would have been none left for me, as hundreds, if not thousands of people walked by these odd places that I planted potatoes. Hardly anyone knows what a potato plant looks like, and even if they did, they'd probably just leave it alone, which is what happened in my case.
Come fall, I harvested them and they were well worth the effort and wait. I don't know how to describe it, but if not sweeter, than more 'potato-y', than I was used to, from any market. Highly recommended.
Good old Russets

Gordon you're such a great chef. You cook not just to be fancy (there is absolutely a place for that) but you show non-chefs, like myself, how easy it is to make good fresh food, and even on a budget. You're definitely leaving the world better than you found it.
King prawns aren’t exactly a ‘budget’ food choice…

Imagine going on a date and she asks you, "so what do you do for a living?" And you respond "I'm a potato specialist."

You can also eat it raw :)

True
@@dexterdog62 my guess is that the editors added in a random recipe that was already filmed to hit 10 minutes for extra money from ad revenue.

I started planting old sprouting potatoes years ago. Now, not only do I not know where they are but whenever I dig the ground to plant something, I find potatoes at various stages of their life.
I'm 15, and I just made mashed potatoes for the first time. It was DELICIOUS!!
Love seeing a dude who's so passionate about something. I'd kill to bump into this guy at a market.
I'm growing and cooking my own potatoes now :) This was a great rundown.

My God, watching you cook is so amazing. Thank you.
What I really hate about Gordon's videos is that they remind me so vividly of my 5+ years in beautiful, mesmerising London... That's where I fell in love with cooking and was able to try so many different cuisines and recipes from all around the world. Gordon you're amazing!!! 🇬🇷🇬🇧

all the varieties of European potatoes are really interesting. You can sometimes find them or similar ones in the US at farmers markets. And gnocchi is great would highly recommend.
As an American I haven't heard of a single one of these potato varieties.

@@mariamhaitham1055 Sasha (Sasha Braus or Sasha Blouse depending on the translation) is a character from the anime and manga Attack on Titan. She is very obsessed with food, especially potatoes. Meat and bread are her other favorites. I will not say anything past this point in case you want to check out the show yourself. I highly recommend watching at least up to the first few episodes of S2, because S1 is mostly world-building. I love the fact you emphasise the seasonal aspect of produce . The thing that has killed buying fresh produce is consumerism wanting everything all year round. Looking forward to a season creates a balanced diet and an excitement for food.
You would be amazed at souther Florida in summer as tropical fruits are in season. Fresh tropical fruits are so much better than grocery stoee
What did the high potato say to the russet potato?

Thank you, Chef Ramsey, for this video. I learned so much. I was so proud when I heard you say start cooking boiled potatoes in cold water, not hot. That's the way my Mom taught me. Her Mom did not teach her to cook so when she married Dad she had to teach herself. Her life's passion was teaching so I'm sure it was no problem for her to learn the basics. Your gnocci looks totally awesome! You are so talented; thank you for sharing your talents with the world so we can improve our home cooking. God bless you & your family.
