- A quick first flight in the SimWorks Studios Zenith CH-701 in Microsoft Flight Simulator - an "extreme STOL" aircraft. What it lacks in look, it more than makes up for in performance, and may well become my "go to" aircraft for bush flights and sight-seeing.

That's my favourite STOL aircraft for MSFS and at that price is by far the best bargain on the market. Another well priced addon that I think you would enjoy is the Boeing 247, if you haven't done so already.
Loving this plane! ... just grabbed it today for $2.49 CND, think regular price $38.99?? Also includes 3 updated airports - can't beat that wind sound with the 'no door' models so much fun to fly :) 5 star; 😅

I think it's an experiment to see if they sell 10x more (I think they are) - so prepare for SWS aircraft to drop in price in future :)
@@jonbeckett They (and you) certainly convinced me. 🙂 I actually feel a little guilty having paid so little for this great plane. But I generally can't afford add-ons so this was an unmissable opportunity for me.

I just bought this plane today. I had no idea what it was, the reputation of the developer, or how well it was modeled, but I figured I couldn't go far wrong for $3.00. I didn't look at the original price, so I had no idea it was reduced so much. I haven't tried it yet.
It's very, very good.
Have had this for quite a while, wish I had it at this price! Still, no regrets at all, this would have to be in my 5 most-used aircraft. The breakers all work in this too. Just missing chocks, covers or tie-downs but otherwise darned good! If you are short on time and want an authentic flight this does the trick. No stall warning so the wing-drop is sudden and can catch you out quickly! An absolute steal at this price! Great review and demo!
I bought this sometime ago on sale in the MSFS store. Climb performance is insane and so easy to land this a good one for sightseeing. My one gripe is they turn that annoying co-pilot person on by default next to you I always turn them off in airplanes it sort of creeps me out lol

I always prefer a copilot to be there, which is kinda weird because I'm not very social IRL.

One of my fav bush planes. It's great with the new turbulence modelling and the turbulence feature on FS Realistic. In the right conditions it almost gets knocked around like you'd expect from an ultralight.
It's a bit lively sometimes, isn't it :)

This was one of the first mods I have bought for MSFS and it's a fantastic, fun to fly bushplane! You can do insanely stupid stuff with it 😉. Great video! 👍🏻

Another plane that has an astounding angle of climb is the free GotFriends Savage Grravel. I guess only Mike Patey could comment on its realism. Great to fly though!
Thanks a lot for making this amazing video! My first plane after I became a pilot was a Zenair CH701, and it's modeled very well in the sim here. About the flaps - at high speed there's a lot of wind resistance against the lever, making them hard to lower. Other than that, the handling of the plane is modeled very nicely. On final approach I kept about 1500 rpm to stop the plane from dropping like a rock, and it stalls at 30 mph, but the air flow in the pitot tube can stall before the wings do so you don't get an accurate airspeed reading when it happens!

As usual you are right - just bought it and for 1st flight from London City flew round the skyscrapers at Canary Wharf, 40 knots with flaps - low speed red bull air race! Mind you the positive idle thrust nearly put me in the Thames.

Looks a cracking little bush plane, can I pick up my eggs from the local farmer with this, there are none in the shops! :)
The landing lite you were speaking of...is LED..and they are now super powerful..A local Zenith has one on each wing and they are blinding.

Yea I had this a while now and is an awesome plane. Fantastic for learning basics in especially landing. Probably one of the easiest planes to start with, very similar to the Icon A5 - simple but great.
I got this on release. Probably still my goto STOL plane. KitFox is good, too, but for just going pretty much anywhere, I take the Zenith. You should fly the one with no doors. It's LOUD.

I remember testing various STOL aircraft at a really tight airfield and discovering that the advantage of a tricycle undercarriage was that you could stand on the brakes as soon as you touch down without having to worry about nosing over.
Cracking little aeroplane. I thought I got a bargain at £8 some months ago, less than £3 is a steal.
This plane's a little special to me. It was the first plane I flew on a discovery flight. ❤
I like the yoke. Looks like it might free up space, while still being efficient.
Not a yoke. Centre stick with a Y grip so it can be flown from either seat.
SWS are, IMO, the best dev studio right now. Their flight models just feel right. This 100 lb toy is more predictable on the rudder than the Ini A310 and like you said Jonathan, you know what to expect with SWS. They just always deliver. They also have a 727 in the pipeline! I bet it's going to be the best flying airliner when released.

HOLY VTOL BATMAN !! I'd never looked at this because I have sooo many little planes and let's be honest it looks a bit weird, but I saw SWS saying they were going to try a deep discount on it, as soon as this video started and I saw how deep I was onto their website and had just purchased it when you got to the takeoff. Oh. My. God. Land on a taxiway ? What's wrong, were all the helipads full ? 🤣 Fwiw the F4u Corsair warbird has a similar thing going on with the flaps, you just bang on full flaps at some point in the approach and the plane will feed stages of flaps out as you slow down.
That's awesome - I can picture a Corsair doing that :) (it had some pretty massive dive brakes, didn't it) :)
The Grumman Goose has a similar thing - if you drop the flaps when going too fast, they'll stay closed until the speed drops enough, and if you speed up with them down, they'll retract automatically.
Not really my cup of tea but the scenery is just stunning on this nice day and it left me thinking...Just how do MS start to create MSFS2030 or what every the next complete variant incarnation might be.
They are not going to - Asobo are iterating on this one.

It's insane - the plane weighs next to nothing.
How did you get rid of the passenger. I went to the weight menu at the top of the page, and set her to 0 kg, and she's still there.
Not all aircraft display passengers correctly between the inside and outside views.

too bad its not on the ingame store for 2.50 i do not like dozen s of different accounts for addons :( (bought it anyway couldnt let it pass and great plane!)

I would love to buy this plane at this price but SWS doesn't seem to offer any other payment option except PayPal. Was that anyone else's experience? I don't use PayPal as I had a problem with them. It seems odd! I have gone back several times and contacted SWS but no reply.
Thanks for the review. But did I hear you caution to be careful regarding potential reduced control authority when turning downwind at slower speeds? I hope the simulator does not produce any such thing because that old pilot myth is wrong and folks need to stop repeating it. Winds aloft have nothing to do with an airplane wing stall. Exceeding its critical angle of attack is the only reason a lifting surface stalls.

I've had one of these for ages,I find its ability to taxi without my permission irritating......................
Instead of Reno Race Asobo could do a stol competition like that at Oshkosh or in on the Dead Cow Nevada salt lake. I think could be amazing to do. Unfortunatly they are not real pilots and probably dont'know even that such events exist. The Zenith CH701is well done, but need much patience and simmers, not risking their lives nor paying aircraft maintenance, gas and insurance prefer expensive turbopros and Jets. Until now the Zenith was overpriced, like the Trent Palmer Kitfox (even Got Friends has reduced its price). Now is a present....
hmm idk, this plane feels unalive, Got Friends offers three bush planes for $0 and I feel like they all feel more alive than this.
