  • Thats the question and the answer is invariably whatever gives you the most pleasure! In this video I have a closer look at the two techniques and with my friend Graham Lumsdon find out which produces the most fish!
    Whats your preference Dry Fly or Washing Line, let me know in the comments section below.

    Technically by far your best vlog to date. More useful tips than a draftsmans case of pencils. Congratulations on landing a brace on the same cast. When using barbless hooks it a rare occurrence. Like attempting to herd cats lol. The post production work you put in. That was as skilled as your fishing pal.

    That was a great video there Lindsay. Very well edited and some great info. Getting the line on the reel is something I have been trying to get across, as most think hand line is the way to go. They miss the importance of the reel. Take care mate. Shaun.

      I only do this when fishing light tippets the reel better protects the line than my clumsy fingers Shaun.

    Hi Lindsay, hoping to get back to PItsford next May for the buzzer fishing, was disappointed on our last visit in late August, because of the high water temperatures the fish were pretty reluctant to come up to the surface, we spoke to some regulars and they all said they had struggled as well, thanks for the tutorial, hope to put it to good use next visit. Regards Jimf

      August was quite cool considering but generally it is not a good time for the Stillwater fishing.

    Meant to add Lindsay that I use tippet rings as opposed to three turn dropper knot with extra turn if that helps in your advice. Derick.

    Hi Lindsay, many thanks for your reply, I have noticed on some videos that when casting a team of flies the casting seems to be a bit slower with a more open loop. Perhaps that adjustment will help. I use tippet rings due to the ease of changing flies so as not to waste tippets but point taken it’s not for everyone. Once again thanks for the very helpful videos. Derick.

    Hi Lindsay, thank you so much for the informative video, very helpful. The piece about trout having no eyelids therefore feeding lower down was interesting & gave me a new understanding. On the question of dry or washing line, my problem has always been tangles on droppers. I therefore resort to single fly buzzers, sometimes successfully, but Lindsay what would be your advice on this. I use normally a 7.8lb Rio tippet with a 6” dropper. Many thanks & keep the videos coming. Tight lines Lindsay. Derick.

      @lindsayiflyfish  Před 2 lety

      Hi Derick, I did try using tippet rings for droppers but could not get on with it to be honest. I use a three turn water knot for my droppers and although I get the occasional tangle it is generally pretty good. It may well be your casting that is the problem rather than your leader set up. Casting a team of flies is not the same as when you are being taught with one fly. I hope that helps.

    I settle for having one floating fly; booby, fab etc. on the point of a washing line. Four fly cast with my casting. I’d spend the day undoing tangles lol.

    Hi Lindsay, I’ve recently got the Alonefire in light you use. It’s not been curing the resin well for the past couple of days so I thought id put it on charge. About how long does it take to charge so I know if I should leave it on while I’m out.

    Lindsay, Once again, thanks for the effort you put into making these videos.
    With the washing line, you mention you are using a slow hand twist retrieve. Are you doing that because you are drifting towards your flies and do it to just maintain contact with the flies but fish them mostly static? Or, are you doing that to impart movement to the flies (i.e. not trying to fish them static)? Cheers,

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  Před 2 lety

      Both! Depends how the fish want it. It pays to mix it up a bit until you crack the code of how they want it.
