The Player Of The Year Nominees Are Totally WRONG?!

  • Arsenal and Manchester City each have two nominations to the Player Of The Year award but Rodri being left out doesn't feel right and similarly at Arsenal Ben White and Gabriel have both been ignored. Saying that the nominated players are all excellent-Van Dijk, Foden, Watkins, Palmer, Rice, Odegaard, Isak and Haaland have all being acknowledged so who do you think will win Player Of The Year 2024?

      Arsenal are better defensively set up than Liverpool there's no doubt about it but as an individual centre back VVD clears both of them
      Van Dijk hasn't had a consistent centre back partner all season (Matip ACL, Konate picked up injuries, Gomez has played across the backline because our fullbacks have constantly been injured and Quansah was playing in League One this time last year) in a team that also doesn't have a world class holding midfielder in front of them
      Meanwhile Saliba and Gabriel haven't missed a game for Arsenal because of injury all season, not to mention the fact Arsenal have a world class cdm in Declan Rice and have a more defensive fullback in Ben White while Arteta uses a more defensive style of play than Klopp in general

    Odegaard, Rice, Saliba, and Gabriel have been Arsenal’s 4 most important players this season, and all of them are important for different reasons. Gabriel is a monster in both attack and defense who loves to step out, take people on, win everything in the air, and strike fear into the hearts of the opponent. Saliba is calm, composed, and loves to mop up anything that gets through Gabriel. He is the “Yin” to Gabriel’s “Yang.”
    Rice is the powerhouse box-to-box midfielder that Arsenal have been crying out for since Vieira left, and provides a physical edge in the midfield that other teams struggle to match.
    Odegaard is perhaps the hardest-working creative midfielder in the game right now, and I think y’all underestimate how much he dictates Arsenal’s play. All of our worst performances happen when he isn’t performing, and all of our best performances happen when he’s having a great game. He is our most important player. If Arsenal win the league, he should be player of the year.

    • @Cafez27
      @Cafez27 Před 29 dny

      @@TP-pq9xx no I don’t….and here is why….
      First of all teams win PL’s not players and it’s the POTY award.
      Secondly it’s not just about numbers either context is important, for example 4 of Haalands goals were against Wolves.
      They are a hugely depleted team and 2 of them were pens. That isn’t super impressive, any decent striker scores those goals for a City side that puts them on a plate for him.
      What has he done that’s extraordinary, has he for example scored any important cup goals, how has he performed against the better teams.
      He was bullied by Saliba and Gabriel for example, who kept him to almost 0 xG across 3 games. Same with VVD, pocketed him at Anfield.
      I think I’m right in saying he hasn’t scored in a final for City as well.
      So no he shouldn’t be nominated just because he is putting up meaningless numbers. He is a flat track bully who has under performed against the good teams and scored goals and pens against the poor ones.
