- Arsenal and Manchester City each have two nominations to the Player Of The Year award but Rodri being left out doesn't feel right and similarly at Arsenal Ben White and Gabriel have both been ignored. Saying that the nominated players are all excellent-Van Dijk, Foden, Watkins, Palmer, Rice, Odegaard, Isak and Haaland have all being acknowledged so who do you think will win Player Of The Year 2024?

People who don’t rate Odegaard show they don’t understand football, guys a genius
Spot on. Odegaard is a better player than Foden. Maybe not had as good a season as Foden. But Odegaard is the second best player in the prem behind KDB. IMO
More one footed than an amputee
he is good but nothing special tbh
Ødegaard runs that Arsenal team
Links everything
Odegaard is average amongst the elite and went missing for 6 months - Trippier created more chances
“Does Ollie Watkins deserve to be here?” … is that some kind of sick joke? 😂
Rory has a very elitist way of thinking when it comes to this..I think he believes Man United, Arsenal Liverpool and Chelsea are the only teams that exist. He recently said in a video that Aguero isn't in the "Top 10 PL forwards of all time"
@@mrhussain9008earlier in the season he said Ollie Watkins is everything he wants Nicolas Jackson to be
Literally if there’s someone to take out it would be Palmer. His team is struggling to stay in the top half and all his goals are penalties
@@isaacthegrreat nah Palmer deserves the nomination, it’s his first season as a starter in the PL and he’s playing in a team that have struggled since Chelsea were taken over by Boehly (yes they’re starting to click now but they were absolutely dreadful for ages). Palmer shouldn’t win the POTS, but the nomination is fair.
@@mrhussain9008it’s because he grew up in the 90s so he holds the players from that generation with higher esteem.
WTF are they talking about ?
As an arsenal fan Rice was amazing for us , but ødegaard is our best player by far
Why is Van Dijk in the nominations??? Saliba and Gabriel are levels clear this season
Van Dijk has dominated all stats for a defender by a huge margin. Saliba and Gabriel has been a great partnership, while VVD has played with a multitude of partners throughout the season.
He might have good stats but he’s messed up at some very crucial moments hasn’t he
@@janniknielsen9292 it’s only because Liverpool prefer to play end to end football and arsenal are cautious.
@@janniknielsen9292 thank god we have eyes
Arsenal are better defensively set up than Liverpool there's no doubt about it but as an individual centre back VVD clears both of them
Van Dijk hasn't had a consistent centre back partner all season (Matip ACL, Konate picked up injuries, Gomez has played across the backline because our fullbacks have constantly been injured and Quansah was playing in League One this time last year) in a team that also doesn't have a world class holding midfielder in front of them
Meanwhile Saliba and Gabriel haven't missed a game for Arsenal because of injury all season, not to mention the fact Arsenal have a world class cdm in Declan Rice and have a more defensive fullback in Ben White while Arteta uses a more defensive style of play than Klopp in general
I do believe that either Saliba or Gabriel were robbed but that was because Odegaard had a horrible first half of the season and he shouldn't have been nominated
Odegaard has been Arsenal’s best player. What’s wrong with these two?
The are English guys
How dare do they say Rice had been better than Odegard

He started the season very slow.

Not a single mention of Rodri in the video nor in these comments just proves that he is the most underrated player not only in the premier league but also in the world. It's literally 71 games without losing in a row with Rodri on the team, let that sink in.
Tbf city would of lost way more games in that time if they didn’t have the refs in their pocket
I think this stands with their point of excellence becoming normalised. You expect Rodri levels from Rodri so it is easy to overlook.
Also, unless you are a flarey player in City's system your greatness is attributed more to the system than you as the individual.
Did you turn off before the end? They did mention him
I'm an Arsenal fan but he's the best player in the world from me, unbelievable.

Crikey guys!!! Take a look at Saka’s all round performance, he is an all phases winger, just take a look at his defensive stats he obliterates all other wingers. You have to remember what Saka is asked to do in this Arsenal side. Saka is the best all phases winger in the world

important thing to note with Watkins is he has 19 goals and 12 assists. But not a single penalty in that. All 19 goals have been from open play which just goes to show that Watkins is not just a goalscorer but a key creator in Villa's attack. Watkins is up there because his overall game is top class.
I would like to see Ollie Watkins get it because Villa getting 4th is an incredible achievement and Watkins has been the central figure. I think Foden and Odegaard have been the two standout players though.

Please don’t discredit Foden because you hate CITY! Foden has had to work hard to remain in that team that asks for nothing less than perfection you could say there was little to no pressure for Cole Palmer to perform because Chelsea Fans were not convinced in the beginning.
The biggest travesty is actually Rodri not being there. He should have won it, let alone get nominated.
The guy hasn't lost a game for 15 months in all competitions.
Everytime he's out, City are in complete shambles and don't look like themselves.
On top of that, he also has like 25 G/A for City this season (16 of which in the premier league).
He far and beyond City's best and most important player. Foden is just getting the praise, because he's English.
the fact that haaland is nominated and rodri isnt is stupid.
Odegaard, Rice, Saliba, and Gabriel have been Arsenal’s 4 most important players this season, and all of them are important for different reasons. Gabriel is a monster in both attack and defense who loves to step out, take people on, win everything in the air, and strike fear into the hearts of the opponent. Saliba is calm, composed, and loves to mop up anything that gets through Gabriel. He is the “Yin” to Gabriel’s “Yang.”
Rice is the powerhouse box-to-box midfielder that Arsenal have been crying out for since Vieira left, and provides a physical edge in the midfield that other teams struggle to match.
Odegaard is perhaps the hardest-working creative midfielder in the game right now, and I think y’all underestimate how much he dictates Arsenal’s play. All of our worst performances happen when he isn’t performing, and all of our best performances happen when he’s having a great game. He is our most important player. If Arsenal win the league, he should be player of the year.
The Ødegaard has been phenomenal for Arsenal this year in my opinion
It’s not a prestigious award it’s a popularity contest……
How is Haaland and VVD in there….over Saliba or Gabi!!!!
Isak has had a couple of good months but that’s it….insane
No Rodri is a joke and I’m an Arsenal supporter!!
If Haaland ends the season with the golden boot, most g/a in the league, and a PL title you don't think he even deserves to be nominated?
@@TP-pq9xx no I don’t….and here is why….
First of all teams win PL’s not players and it’s the POTY award.
Secondly it’s not just about numbers either context is important, for example 4 of Haalands goals were against Wolves.
They are a hugely depleted team and 2 of them were pens. That isn’t super impressive, any decent striker scores those goals for a City side that puts them on a plate for him.
What has he done that’s extraordinary, has he for example scored any important cup goals, how has he performed against the better teams.
He was bullied by Saliba and Gabriel for example, who kept him to almost 0 xG across 3 games. Same with VVD, pocketed him at Anfield.
I think I’m right in saying he hasn’t scored in a final for City as well.
So no he shouldn’t be nominated just because he is putting up meaningless numbers. He is a flat track bully who has under performed against the good teams and scored goals and pens against the poor ones.
The fact he is there and Rodri is not is a joke!!!!
There are no finals during a PL season. This is about a premier league award. You're just grasping at straws looking for any reason not to include Haaland. I agree about Rodri though, they should obviously both be nominees.
@@Cafez27 So why didn't Jesus put up those numbers then when he was playing for city, also Haaland has an impressive goal scoring record for other clubs like Dortmund, Salzburg and his country Norway ur acting as if City are the reason he's scoring this many goals when he's done this for other clubs and his country too. Also ur forgetting last season fixture against Arsenal when they got destroyed by city and Haaland got 2 assists and a goal.
@@TP-pq9xx no I’m not he hasn’t scored any meaningful goals, and isn’t a very good footballer. If there is an award to the best goalscorer fine, but best footballer!?!?!? Here is question for you to illustrate the point, you have to lose one player Rodri or Haaland who are you giving up???
To say newcastle have had an awful season is bonkers considering we've had the worst injury crisis of any team in the league for the last 20 years.
we've had 2 goalkeepers and a bunch of academy players on the bench for more than half the season, Tonali banned, Botman out for 10 months now, and we're 6th and probably gonna finish 5th above spurs.
The Isak to Arsenal thing is just lazy too, its not going to happen because arsenal can't afford him, he'd cost them £150 mil plus.
Rory I want to bring an important discussion to you.! We should stop GA as a measuring tool. We should have a new “Games impacted” metric. Player scoring 1 goal in 3 diff games >>>>>>> Player scoring 3 goals in 1 game. Hope you see this Rory.
Fully agree
why is Rodri not getting a shout too
Ødegaard and Rice has been Arsenals best players what?, Ødegaard deserves the spot. The fact Rodri was left out is what pisses me off. I'm an Arsenal fan, but this season Rodri has been the best player in the prem.

While i LOVE Rice, these 2 really dont know Arsenal enough. Odegaard is the beating heart of this team. Hes no. 1 in Shot Creating Actions in the league. AND begins and coordinates Arsenal's press. He's arsenal's all phases midfielder. He's the captain Arsenal wants.
It’s not Saka that’s missing, it’s GABRIEL OR SALIBA! Outrageous 😂

The noms for arsenal are Rice, Odegaard, Saliba. Gabriel could as well.
Saka has been so nonexistent in so many matches and disappeared in SO many big games there’s no way i could legitimately put him in those talks.

raya has been average plus fumbled at a few important times as well. also dont see any fantastic distribution skills that Ramsdale didnt have
He is not average, not the best but 2-3 players mark this guy out game in game out, no other player in the league have such.
Saka has better stats than both Salah and Bowen this year lol
I just don’t understand why Saka’s defensive effort never gets mentioned. He’s quite literally lapping all wingers in the world at defensive actions. It’s not his offensive output that makes him special it’s his ability to cover an entire half of a pitch. And he’s creating as many chances on the other end as every other elite winger. He doesn’t get subbed out often because no one else can do that.
Much prefer these types of discussions. 👍
Saliba, Gabriel, Rodri, Foden, Odegaard, Palmer, Rice, Watkins. That should’ve been the shortlist. Winner should be Rice, Palmer or Watkins imo. Each have been so crucial to their team where without their involvement you’d see their teams at completely different ends of the table.

The comment about Ollie Watkins deserving to be nominated is an absolute joke. As of May 13th - 31 goal contributions (19G, 12A), all goals from open play. Palmer has the same goal contributions - but 9 goals are from penalties and everyone thinks he's had a better season than Watkins.
Such a disrespect to Aston Villa best ever striker………..😅
Van Dijk has had 2nd choice keeper behind him for half the season. 5th choice CB playing left back for half the season, constantly switching between 3rd and 4th choice CB next to him for the entire season, Right back out for 3 months, DM in front of him constantly changing.
And despite all that, he still has by far the best individual stats for a defender in Europe this season
The 'Liverpool Bad' agenda really gives people careers doesn't it?
Golden glove winner gets ignored too. People wrote Raya off at the start of the season.
Palmer scoring 9 penalties has seriously skewed his goalscoring stats, 12 outfield goals his decent but not prolific.
On saka’s goal contributions, it’s not his fault that the rest of the team is good as well.
The other guys who have better G/A are one man teams (in terms of these stats)
We have missed Ade

I’m sorry palmer wouldn’t of made a difference against Arsenal lol wasn’t a penalty for him to score either
Look at Saka's defensive output. He is not just an out and out attacker.
I don’t understand how you’re raising Palmer on a pedestal but not talking about Watkins the same way
“We’ve been waiting for a ‘box-to-box midfielder, nowadays we have that whole ‘6-8-10’ stuff”…buddy, the “8” is the box-to-box midfielder…lol
If anything, watkins deserves it more than Palmer. The guys g/a total is crazy and non of that are coming from penalties where he actually take villa to top4 spot at the moment. I dont understand the hype around palmer where half of his G/A coming from penalties where most of them are coming from his team drawing a fouls and he basically has no involvement apart from taken those penalties
Anyone who follows arsenal week in week out will see that Martin Ødegaard is that guy. Phenomenal player.
It’s an utter disgrace Saka hasn’t been able included he is the best all phases winger in the world!!!!
Let's all overlook Ollie Watkins (cause he is not in the 'so called' big 6). 19 goals, 13 assists (KDB has 10 assists). If you added the pens Douglas Luiz has taken, he would have by estimate, 23 goals. For comparison, Haaland has 27 PL goals this season, having scored 7 pens and only has 5 assists. #criminallyunderrated
Sure in the context of comparing number of the 90’s and 00’s the likes of R9 with 414 goals + 104 assists and Henry 411 goals + 242 assists don’t look as impressive as the current crop when numbers are concerned but we’re still talking about scoring over 400 goals. That’s elite!
That is their total goals in their career. Also football has gotten harder now than before.
Don't know if you're reading the comments but if you do have the time, a podcast with you two would be sensational.
Great chemistry, great discussions, much more chill than The Club.
Cole Palmer has been quality however its not hard to be a shining light in the dark place that is Chelsea
Saka 16 G 9 A , Bowen 16 G 6 A , Salah 18 G 10 A
but these numbers does not tell the full story . go compare the overall stats . with the defensive work and all that . Saka is matching all the attackers in the league but doubling if not tripling the defensive work of all of them . put respect on his name .
As an arsenal fan watching Bukayo Saka this season I dont think is POTY level. Penalties and Corners make his numbers look so much better than his play has shown. There have been good times, but honestly there have been a lot of times where he has left arsenal fans wanting more, even in wins. Average season if you ask me, not player of the year worthy. That being said he is still one of the best wingers in the world and just because he had a “down” year doesnt mean i don’t rate him highly, just when you put it into perspective, better shouts for POTY

Palmer in alternate universe is staying at Man City and will replace Bernardo Silva next season, since it is confirmed B. Silva will leave this summer.
Football has always been about beauty. This existed way longer than the stats merchants came along. xG for example! Haaland will not make it into my list based on what I've seen him produce so far. Maybe if his game improves in the future, but not now.
The player of the season it is called. That means that you should be good pretty much all season. That would leave many players out, among them Phil Foden. Look at hos stats before Christmas. Not really that impressive. This should be a battle between Palmer and Rice. I would have included Odegaard as well among the top 3-4, but he was not good in the first two months and in December.
Saka has been nominated not just because of his offensive numbers.. look at his percentages in defense versus anybody in the world in his position. Just watch a match because he's far more than a few numbers to this team. And the man hasn't missed a game. Etcetera, etcetera (seriously) He shouldn't win it, but he definitely should be there. Yes, ahead of Salah, this year.
