@Leroy nav It's truly sickening anyone has to even deal with scammers. I sure hope those folks repent before they die, because they are choosing to be on a road leading to a very unpleasant place, that's for sure. Due justice will be served.
Used cars usually have a"bumper to bumper warranty". Meaning once both bumpers pass the salesman on your way off the lot, no more warranty.
Thats good clean humor.

They also come with a "Louisiana Warranty". If the car breaks in half, you still have to pay for both halves!

Rob P exactly. My mother in law’s brother has one that just had the engine replaced under warranty @ 80k & he still doesn’t realize what a POS it is. Some people never learn.
I have 2 and they run great. I had an accident with my first 2012 Optima vs a 2004 Chevy Malibu. I was able to drive away and the Malibu was totaled in the intersection, crumpled up like a beer can. I have only had problems with American cars but drove Subaru's for 20 years with very few issues. Biggest POS we had was a 2004 Chevy Venture my dad bought and I inherited.
I have a kia and nock the wood, and so far no problems.
Kris Wingert definitely not denying American cars are POS’s too! I personally stick to Japanese. Glad you’ve had a good experience with your’s. I think any vehicle if taken good care of and maintained well can be a good vehicle, some just take way more maintenance than others and some can take way more abuse than others.
If that person looked at that high mileage beat up car, and said, "Yes, this is worth $7000." Then I can't feel sorry for them..

Ford dealership got me good. But I still drive my ford mustang. I've had to do a lot of repairs. Transmission, engine, pilot bearing, throwout bearing, ball joints, clutch, flywheel, tires, struts are failing, i guess those are next, also checked rear end oil, an it was low,had some metallic shavings in there. Yeah. Any turbo sneaking past 150k miles is going to need attention somewhere. Amazing it ran since your scan shows sensors bouncing out of range. Car salesman line: "I was just about to buy this car myself"
Me: "Well, I perfectly understand, you go ahead and buy it, I think I will go look elsewhere ."
I left. There are some dealers that you don't even have to open door to know to walk away.
A dealer tried to do that to me on a old 99 Sivlerado 2500 or something like that. They wanted like 6k for it and they had to fix the exhaust. I was around 3 or 4k for it and ended up walking.
Anytime you go to a dealer you should ask to take it to your mechanic to get it looked over. If they don’t even agree to that you walk away
The last VW that I would be interested in would be a 1979 Beetle.
One thing that I do when checking a vehicle is to take the oil cap off and run my finger around in there. If I get sludge, dirty oil, or it smells burnt then I walk.
Such vital info here. TYSM, Scotty. This is a HUGE help to those buying used vehicles.

Without AWD you’re probably doing one-wheel peels.
Checking in the exhaust pipe for oil/soot is a nice tip, the constant smell of burnt oil is also a giveaway
Actually, it's a minefield for the buyer, even if not the usual uninformed victim. I don't know about TX at all, but, under the UCC, a dealer can waive the (implied) warranty of merchantability. "As Is" does actually mean that and the paperwork will usually use the specific word "merchantability". Now, if a warranty of any kind is also bought within 90 days of the purchase, the implied warranty of merchantability cannot be waived. Some states completely prohibit as-is sales. Check to see if yours does. If you ask and the dealer denies defects of which an "expert", i.e. the dealer, should reasonably be expected to know, you may well have cause of action. Take notes; have a witness. Call your state's dept. of consumer affairs and/or the AG's office to find out whether there have been complaints against that dealer. In general, NEVER buy from any dealer, only from actual private parties who OWN the vehicle and have service records. Look on line for problems with ANY car you're considering. Take a OBD II scanner with you and use it. All used car dealers are crooks. Protect yourself.

My friend bought a 2007 Pontiac G6 for $2600 4 years ago and still running fine. Don't overpay for used cars with problems, and if your buying from a used car lot that doesn't mean they're going to be any more professional or trustworthy compared to a private seller.

Smart. One of the things he doesn’t emphasize that I think is pretty important is Carfax. It shows any accidents and maintenance that were reported on the vehicle. And while it won’t show every single little thing such as if someone performed repairs on it themselves it can show you the vehicle history pretty accurately. Shows where the vehicle was first sold and if it was a lease or rental vehicle. Also if it was wrecked and the repairs were done at a shop it usually shows the exact place on the car it was damaged and the extent of the damage, as in if the airbags deployed etc. Some low speed fender benders are no big deal but any especially side impacts at high speeds that caused the airbags to deploy you want to stay away from because they could have frame damage and that means it will never drive right and will very likely constantly eat tires and wear them unevenly. Also shows how many owners the car has had and at what mileage it was sold.
High Jinx When I bought my used car almost two years ago, the CarFax was clean, no accidents. What people need to know is that when cars are brought into another state to be sold, the history is wiped. Mine had been in a front end collision but it never showed on any report.
Bettina E I’m sure some things slip through the cracks but I’m in Tx & mine was from Florida and had all the maintenance records. Of course nothing beats having a good mechanic check it out. Thanks for the input, anyone making a big purchase needs to be aware of any and all possible issues and situations. That’s what I love about this channel, Scotty attracts helpful, honest, knowledgeable people ☺️

There is a sucker born everyday when non intelligent buyers go to a used car dealership. Especially these "Buy here, pay here" places. The dealer is guaranteed a sale as soon as they step onto the lot. The buyer of that Volkswagen could file a charge back with his bank, and the bank will forcefully remove the funds from the dealership and put it back into his account temporary until the investigation is complete. I'd still hire a lawyer also and take the dealership to court, because its possible that the bank can rule in the others persons favor.
Yeah, it's a little crazy that in this day and age not everyone does enough research before spending a lot of money.
Here in the UK you get a 6 month warranty on a used car, some dealers may sell a car without if it is older, or in rough shape,by have to ask you to waive your rights. .
Beware: Connecticut has absolutely ZERO used car laws from a private seller.
Most states have zero laws for private sellers including Texas.
@@jsun3117 didn't know that, I was pretty sure other state's have a 7 day lemon law it just requires a ton of proof
@@michaelciullo4788 If you buy from a private seller, it's pretty much "caveat emptor" or "buyer beware". You have very little recourse. Even if you take legal action, the seller can just say that the car was in good shape when you bought it. When you make a major purchase, like a vehicle, you need to inspect it thoroughly and get everything in writing.

A lot of greenbacks for a lot of milage. The car is well presented and looks the part. People think twice about paying a dime over the odds but when it comes to grands, aw shucks who cares. A third party, such as a mechanic, would have saved this customer a lot of grief. Prevention is always, I repeat, "Always" better than cure and easier on the wallet. Sincerely hope this person gets his money refunded and learns from his experience. Let this episode be a dire warning to all would be car owners in similar situations.
Good Points, but try to get a mechanic to give it a look over in a reasonable time! Seller will say forget it.
Ya imean 7 grand for ANY 160,000 mile mass-consumer car volkswagen or not... That guy almost deserves what he got. that's just STUPID.
Define "Reasonable time" and you have to go to court to have a chance, small claims court has $ limits most states $5,000. Lawyer fees are high if not through small claims because you pay by the hour.
depends of it if it on contingency. Defense lawyers are usually hourly.
One can always just do small claims court and only ask for $5,000. Depending on the situation, it might be worth going the simpler route and get most of your money back.
I like VW's, however I would avoid 2.0TSI's unless I am shown a bill that the engine is brand new.
They just don't last.
Tell the truth, Scotty. That car came from either Telephone Road, Airline, Shepherd, or Long Point, right? Probably one of those "Your job is your credit" places that Houston is famous for.
My $2800 airport Rd '97 4runner limited that I fixed up real nice with a lift kit etc.. a awesome lucky buy but, hydroplaned it into a telephone pole in the rain.. at night😫. RIP Dune.
They have those in Southern California too
Stay blessed uncle scotty
Insha Allah ameen
Amen !!
Scotty Kilmer, expert mechanic, worst nightmare for sleazy car sellers.
Just what I like, A no non-sense type of man. (thumbs up to Scotty)
You’d have to pay me $7k to take a 13 y/o VW with 162k on it
Actually about 300,000km. 162,000 miles . Ouch.
when i worked for a dealer awhile back, they went to an auction and bought rental vehicles. we then took them straight off the truck and put them on the lot. we were told to say that we spent $2k on inspections and repairs . can't tell you how many came back.
Still loving the little pics you show throughout your videos. They never get old b/c you keep them up to date, such as showing certain politicians when describing crooks and so forth.
I got an 07 accord with like 70k miles on it last year for only $4,000. Other than some very minor frame damage, I was lucky to get an honest seller who sold me a good car for a good price.
Scotty knows what's going on
When the scanner was plugged in, I was surprised it didn't read "TILT!" or "URFKD"
No one is ever protected from scammers, once in a while you get scammed if you not prepared. Nowadays you can't buy something without triple check online.
Thank you Scotty.
"Electoronic crap" that made me smile. Lol
7:14 "Heres the crazy Volkswagon codes"
Scotty helped me to despise German cars. Almost bought an Audi with the 2.0T years ago. Glad I came to my senses
Help Canadian not get ripped off with used car dealerships
Basically, if its not a 94 Toyota Celica its a scam.
You've noticed the trend here then !
Imagine him working on your car and then you just see it in his intro getting floored
The previous vw Engine, the 1.8 t, is far better that this 2.0 Tfsi engine.
We do have a lots of Problems with Tfsi engines in europe. Massive oil consumption and carbon built up is typical for this engines.
yea i work with machines which use VW diesel engines. they ran like clock untill they started to put turbo into them. we had machine which has more than 16k + work hours which is alike you drove your car 2million kms . it run fine but only problem that valve leaks .
we got recently an one year old machine and with turbo verson its already burning oil.
they are better machine than Toyota.
i had for 10 years vw golf 1.6 .mk4 and i had never issue with it. i recycle it cause it was too rusty below
Yeah scammers are everywhere. Everyday we got same story. Money over morality. Over and out.
I swear that Scotty is my favourite person on CZcams right now...
You really need to do a fan meet up or conference or something!
Scotty looks like a high school band director today. His arms are FLYING 🤣
That’s everyday, are you new?
ah a man of culture i see
With all the arm flailing, I wonder if he is part Italian.
My friend had a demolition business years ago. He had an ancient Autocar rolloff truck for hauling containers. The engine had seen better days, but it was a truck for moving containers around site, and maybe one trip to the scrapyard every day. He had a new driver and told him with a straight face to go get the Green Autocar but be sure to fill it with oil, and check the fuel before he left the yard. Needless to say the fuel gage didn't work, and there was a wooden stick under the seat to check the fuel. But he was sure it needed oil, it ate at least a gallon of oil a day.
Rubbing your finger in the tail pipe to check if a car is burning oil is something anyone can do.
I'll go check the cars tomorrow.
Thanks Scotty.
