In the closing scene of the movie, Dustin Hoffman says to Jessica Lange: "I was a better man with you as a woman, than I ever was with a woman as a man."
No he said 'let's get ready to rumble.'
I've always noticed that Dustin Hoffman seems to cry rather easily in real life. I think it's lovely.
Why is losing control of yourself in public "lovely?"
Ian Williams Why is showing emotion a sign of losing control?
CoCoMoroney There is nothing wrong with showing emotion, but you should be able to control your emotions or else your emotions are controlling you. Crying, like uncontrollable laughing, means you are no longer in control.
Ian Williams If he burst out sobbing frequently during interviews I'd think he cannot control his emotions, but tearing up the odd time when discussing something that means a great deal to you is perfectly normal.
Ian Williams I don't think I need to explain myself to you. It's my personal reaction; I have a right to say it, and you have a right not to agree with it.
"That was never a comedy for me." For real.
Many a truth is revealed in jest as the saying goes…
Tootsie is one of my favorite comedies. It's probably the only 'guy in drag' movie that is completely empathetic of the struggles women go through. Jessica Lange was never more luminescent. He gets to see who she really is,with all her insecurities and innate kindness, not just a pretty girl to acquire. Highly recommended. It is both hilarious and thought-provoking without being preachy or trite. Some of the lines are to this day eminently quotable.
Ya like unattractive men that don’t have a lot of money don’t also struggle in life smfh
How many years later I'm still saying, "Give me something, 1. I don't need backs."
My epiphany about this was when I met a girl like that. I wouldn't say she was the furthest thing from an hourglass shape and her face wasn't the most beautiful I'd ever seen or compared to other girls I know but oh wow, was she a beautiful person. Unconditionally sweet, kind, smart, interesting and so sincere..she made me feel so relaxed an vulnerable. It was easy to be around her and that's so hard for me to find. It's even because of who she was I found the idea of touching her as if she were the hottest women physically pretty much the same...isn't that amazing?
And I completely BLEW it when I said the wrong thing to her one day and lost her...
I think about her a lot. Even though with your eyes you may not think much...but oh god. To me - she was one of the most beautiful people I've ever met. I miss her so much.
@B train 8 Maybe the movie has affected him so much. There are things that will touch us so much that we have to stop and cry.
Was she fat?
@@BlackBinderGames no but she wasn't thin or an athletic build either
@@RussellJoshuaQuiazon You actually answered. You're awesome.
As an ugly girl, this kind of gives me hope lol. Guys always ignore me...but maybe one day I'll find a guy who doesn't.
I love Dustin's vulnerability all his characters have, his deep emotions and character, what a great person he is, what a fantastic actor because of it. This vulnerability made him beautiful because beauty comes from within.
+BytomGirl
The beauty of your character may come from within, but if you do not have it from without, you will go without. Dustin knew the scathing truth of this reality.
I am totaly touched by his understanding of inner beauty. It's true we are brain washed, There were so many moments that I wished I could be attracted to some people I know that does not fufill that image that we sometimes thing is attractive. Dustin Hofman & Al Pacino my favorite American- actors.
Ooh bless you for that Dustin Hoffman, and thank you for sharing it.
Tootsie shaped my life and Dustin touched my heart. I and many other women have struggled to the depths of our souls to be heard in a society that in 2017 objectifys women even more harshly than it did in this time. Tootsie you will always be my heroine. God help us today
I love how the movie had so much class and respect of his character as Dorothy. He played it so true, he mentioned in an interview it was not a comedy to him.
Just lose weight and wear make up.
Physical beauty may keep the eyes entertained, but it's the inner beauty that fills one's heart and soul with true love.
I always get emotional at the end of aTootsie. Obviously Dustin took that role very seriously. I believe his finest performance.
What a beautiful person!
luxorlivingandstyle Couldn’t agree more - he’s great 👍🏿
In my world, Tootsie and Some Like It Hot are the two greatest drama comedies ever made. Coincidentally, cross-dressing is the main theme in both films.
Dustin Hoffman is such a wonderful soul
@FirstAnd Last looking back at my comment, I just threw up in my mouth too. Damn I was a dumbass. 🤣 Young, dumb and a liberal. Ughhh
@FirstAnd Last I hate younger me. Lol 😁 This isn't the first comment of my past to haunt me.
@@TheCountryfairy why?
I hope more men have this epiphany.
Nah, it's one in a million. And notice DH married a bombshell. Its only because he was on the receiving end that the message landed. Oh well.
This is an old interview. It would be interesting to learn how he feels now.
Just watching it again on TCM..such a sweet movie. Loved Dustin so much. Want Tootsie back!
I will never forget this brilliant actor. I've already watched his movie "Tootsie" several times and I always feel very happy and contented after watching.
So glad I know you, Mr. Hoffman 😊
I love Dustin Hoffman, such a brilliant actor and the parts he has played are my favourite . In particular Kramer v Kramer and tootsie
A role he should have won an Oscar for.
One of the greatest Oscar misses, Rain Man was the consolation prize imo although he had already won for the Graduate, this film was one of the strongest performances in film history IMO.
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing the viral clip that I missed!
Every time he talks about the movie, he tears up. I’ve seen it since he interviewed about that movie for AFI’s 100 Years 100 Movies special back in ‘98 and at least twice before.
Im trynna read his lips when hes embracing his wife on the red carpet... i think he says "your my baby"..thats so endearing and sweet.. u can tell hes a kind hearted good human being..your beautiful dustin.. inside and out.. as a man or a woman.. ur beautiful
That was so utterly authentic.
His character still chose bombshell Jessica Lange over Sandy.
I wanted to see the interview not the fuck ups on GMA.
Oohhhhh He is soo Nice.He is talking about himself its Nice too see him grow and see his own faults🤔🙂
Dustin ❤️ who can hate this childish angel ❤️
Dustin hofflman spoke from his heart he is comic royalty
My favourite actor, every thing he did was pure bliss
I'm so sorry❤❤😢
I cried reading your comment. ❤️
LOVED DORTHY I MISS DORTHY he was so great in the role
Stephen Fermoyle same here !
Miss Dorothy so much
Ditto that! Beauty might be one thing but you gotta always consider charm; nothing more beautiful than a charming human being.
Wow! Wonderful
I watched this Masterpiece 4 times or more and, anytime, I feel so deeply in love with Tootsie and Dustin Hoffman and I feel that his sensitivity is rare to find in a Man.
He is a REAL Man, he's not afraid to live his feminine side.
DUSTIN HOFFMAN ❤ 4ever.
Thanks, Dustin.
Hermoso
!! all women are born BEAUTIFUL . . . means ALL
Aw, that's lovely that he got emotional about it. He probably feels badly about overlooking the women that he did or not even giving them a chance but he was probably young and just wasn't educated or wise enough back then.
I myself have done that about men. I mean this was many years ago when I was young and immature and a little shallow. But if I didn't find the man attractive to look at then I wouldn't give them much of a chance. Ugh. And honestly I'm only average looking myself, I'm nothing special. 😂
But now I'm older and wiser I would totally be different about it if I was single. (I'm married now) but back in the day I turned down people based on their appearance, and they may have been really nice but I don't know.
I apologize for being like that and Sorry to those men.
He's an actor. Just keep that in mind.
Bravo :)
great!
I Donno why I cry every time at the end of Tootsie. It's like she's gone forever.
This is why this man is the Definition of character actor. He feels everything he does 200%; that’s why he was the best Hook or the best ghostly priest hallucination, or hell the best anything.
He's not a character actor in this film. He's the lead role.
❤️❤️❤️
Dustin Hoffman did such a great job with that character.
I understand you Distin😔👍🤩😍
... 1:39 ... use your ears, rather than your eyes, to see persons. Well, unless you are driving. Fish and birds have eyes on the side of their heads.
Why is that?
It's true
I've never seen the movie but I think standards of beauty differ person to person and the really ugly people are the ones who can't even appreciate someone attractive because they don't feel they measure up to the standard represented themselve. Men are expected to make an effort as well to be attractive in society. Neither gender should be manipulated to try and be something other than tbe best version of themselves imo.
What's with people in the background?? Do they wait n wave during the entire show?? That's a shame.
Haha. He actually has really pretty eyes as Dorothy. I always thought so anyway:)
It works both ways to be honest. Intelligent, funny, giving people are glossed over by societal standards. It’s sad.
So precious! I know there are reports of him committing sexual harrassment, and of course that's not good, but just remember that there's good and bad sides to everybody, and we can see such a good side of Dustin here.
~:~
I think the true word your looking for is "authentic" not charming. you're recognizing him embracing his vulnerability.
Considering the recent allegations about Hoffman, it's very amusing to read the fawning, vomit-inducing comments about him.
Great Job ABC, in totally missing the FUCK!NG POINT!
We have definitely hit rock bottom folks. Turn off your tv....
1:09 well I actually would, if I saw Dorothy in real life without knowing her or knowing anything about the movie, I would absolutely go talk to her, I really find her very interesting, attractive, loyal and intelligent. I would try to befriend her and well, who knows what else if she’s interested, just have to say, we need more women like Dorothy Michaels out there. Many people don’t see it but, after all what matters is what’s on the inside, not the outside.
I have always found that one must look beyond physical features into soul of another before one can know their beaty.
I have never found that there is a correlation between physical features and beauty. I have always found that the nature of one's soul is the real source of beauty.
Native Americans say that only the rocks live forever. I say that only true love and soul-deep beauty live forever
It's good you find her interesting but...she's a man pretending to be a woman. Honestly the men I've seen trying to "act" like a woman are so sad and ridiculous It's insulting. But if you mean an actual woman well, even with all the qualities Dustin showed, & because of the way society treats average looking woman, she would still have insecurities...
I would too. She have a gorgeous smile~
neeeyeeeeah but Dorothy was like in her 60s and Michael was in his 40s. His thoughts are kindly, but come on, most guys that are aren't gonna mack on a Dorothy.
I love this movie and he's amazing in it...but come on...
ironic they played the interview when each and every one of those women were hired because of their looks.
It is classic comadey
Illuminati alert!!
I wouldn't check myself out if I was a chick either
Because being 'like a woman' is so utterly shameful- right?
I thought she was beautiful .
:59 to 1:06, okay, that's his wife, not his daughter. This has me scratching my head a bit, since, according to IMDB, he's been married to this woman named Lisa Gottsegen since 1980. This woman was born in 1954. When was this interview? Shiny beautiful hair, nice skin, etc. Shouldn't she be at least half an old hag by now?
Check our video response at Dustin Hoffman spoof (Godzilla brainwash)
and chicks get like 65 likes on every profile pic on Facebook
more like 200 lol
Facebook is an illusion.
I thought the movie was like Superman (Christopher Reeve) but it is left to the audience to decide who is Clark Kent, Michael Dorsey or Tootsie? It is made funnier by the fact that it is a very effective feminist movie, but the main character is a guy. Guys do feminism better ? See, that's funny. ... And the reveal scene when she slaps him.. so, the physical does matter? Well, I suppose she felt like he had lied to her by pretending to be a character she mistook for a real person. czcams.com/video/ZbhbUOgs47E/video.html
Well, well, well. This video has not aged well, has it?
women judge based on looks too (more often then men) This is interview is embarrassing to watch.
That's not true at all.
THAT is the most whitest thing I've seen in my life
Really went there, huh? Hate to imagine how you'd freak out if someone said that about black people.
This interview makes no sense to me whatsoever I don't know what he is trying to convey or what he is trying to say
