Two-time Oscar winner and grande dame of American film sat down with Morley Safer for a rare interview to discuss acting and her latest leading role as British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
That's my favorite movie by her also, - the dedication she shows! There is a lengthy passage where she has to speak German and it's actually her speaking German - with a Polish accent at that! So that put it into perspective for me when she was announced as Maggie Thatcher and people started griping she was unsuitable for the part and that she would not be able to do a British accent. I just thought; she was able to do a language that's not her own with a Polish accent so she would be able to speak her own language with another one! She absolutely deserved the Oscar for Sophie and my only gripe is that Kevin Kline wasn't even nominated! I like how graciously she speaks about him - it's easy to tell he's one actor she enjoyed working most with, and she's not alone with that; Sigourney Weaver worked with him on Dave a few years after that and she was enthusiastic about him too...Anyway, she's gracious about all her male co-stars, even Dustin... ;-) I noted when she's asked about him, though, she briefly makes the same face that Iranda Priestly makes when she does not like some fashion she's shown at a private presentation...
