This man spent most of his adult life living on a farm thinking nobody liked him or his acting. I'm happy he's finally starting to realize that for the BILLIONS of millennials and Gen Z'rs around the world he is THE main character of Star Wars.

Star Wars itself is the story of the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker and he is THAT face. Hes even the father of the other poster boy. It really shows the weight he carries and why some people couldnt respect him.
I'm sure Hayden spent a significant amount of his life thinking people hated his performance. And sure, some people did. But for the rest of us who grew up with Hayden, to us, he is our Anakin. He is our Vader.

@向洋 Nathan Hartono I would say that is true even for older fans, but our movies were ANH/ESB/RotJ. But I also agree some older fans can be aftheads in their prequel opinions, though I think it softened due to the sequels.

On behalf of prequel fans everywhere, thank you to those people in the crowd who yelled “we love you”. I think Hayden has realized there’s fans out there that love him and his portrayal of Anakin.
Agreed. I loved Hayden as Anakin and thought it to be a believable portrayal and great casting choice. And the Guy is just so humble and awesome to see on and off the set.

Judging by how many times Hayden's voice cracks throughout the interview, you can tell he was moved and overwhelmed by all of the love he is being showered with. He essentially almost cried at one point.

I mean imagine all the work put into being all of that. angsty characters aren't likable, but hayden got so much, too much, hate. I'm so glad that his return is met with so much love and appreciation. Who knows how much emotional/mental hurt was caused by audiences previous. So happy for him.

I’m not ashamed to say that I loved the prequel movies when I was a kid and I still love it to this day. So happy to see Hayden finally getting his flowers. ❤

And now all those years later, walking out to this. He deserves all this and more. I hope beyond hope, too, that Jake Lloyd also understands how loved HE is. Would love to see him at one of these celebrations some time.

Bloody hell, this made me choke up a little bit. This guy deserves this reception, and we are so blessed to have him back.
2:58 the way Hayden expresses that Anakin and Vader are, to him, the same character just goes to show how much he understands the character. That Vader is just an extension to Anakin. We, of course, know this ourselves as fans but it's awesome to see the actor understanding the depth of Anakin
I dunno how people could hate Hayden's performance, he was edgy, gifted, emotional, teen angst manifest. And he was unbelievable with lightsaber choreography.
I think it's more the cringey dialogue Hayden was given which overshadowed a really dimensional performance from him. "I wish I could just wish away my feelings" or "From my point of view the Jedi are evil" - I mean, what is he supposed to do with those lines? Totally not his fault.
The lines didn't bother me but if you would enlighten me, what would you say instead of those lines?

You can tell he was really touched, like he hasn’t gotten this and always wanted it, now he has gotten it. It’s great to see.
At 6:03 you can hear that his voice breaks very much and he probably was close to crying. I’m so glad he was able to feel how much the fandom really loves him! I found it so sad when the interviewer asked him what the best fan reactions to him playing anakin was, and he answered with "this“. Cause he should’ve had more moments like this, he really played anakin well.
The interviewer was simply terrific. Asked the right questions, let the crowd and Hayden interact, etc. She moved the thing along very smoothly and, most importantly, she was incredibly gracious. It was so cool to see!
It's a real redemption arc for him, How he went from being a hated actor to then a beloved one, Props to you Hayden for not giving up on the fandom and the franchise.

@thegentlesheepbarn3578 It wasn't necessarily poorly written, more than it was misunderstood. Besides a few lines of wooden dialogue, it's more that the character wasn't flushed out in the movies. The Clone Wars TV show came around, and George Lucas pushed his character arcs of Anakin through Dave Filoni. And now, watching the prequels people understand Anakin. That's when things started to turn around.
Hayden's arc is the exact opposite of Vader's. It's like poetry, it rhymes.
Came back here after episode 5 of Ahsoka and this truly is special. He IS and will forever hold a special place in movie and story history across many generations. Thank you Hayden for caring so much about the character and characters past, present, and future!
Episode 5 brought out so many emotions for me, I have to watch it again to actually see it. The first time I had so many tears flowing, it was pure magic

This was easily my highlight from all the panels, I was there and the whole venue just came to a complete standstill and everyone just focused in on making this one man feel loved and appreciated. After all he went through, its so great to see fans finally giving him the appreciation he deserves. Even me, as a tiny, tiny part of Star Wars signed 183 autographs and took countless selfies and every person I met was just SO lovely, and such an inclusive and welcoming bunch. I was overwhelmed. I can't imagine how Hayden must have felt with that amplified by thousands. Wow.

@@maitiu6802 Hayden can hardly be blamed for the writing and direction he was given - and the fan backlash against the prequels at the time was often entirely misdirected at people just trying to do their best, and and nearly ruined or even cost people their lives, Hayden included. I was talking about how lovely it was to see him being in a room surrounded by people, many of whom were kids when his movies came out, and loved them, despite what many see as flaws.
As for the word "inclusive" - I was talking about the people in the audience in general. I was there as a minor Star Wars actor and met hundreds of fans, just as I have at other conventions. I was remarking over how Star Wars fans come in all shapes and sizes and from all walks of life. I never hear any negativity or predudices or disparagment because these people have different backgrounds, political beliefs or whatever. Everyone is welcome, and everybody is a friend, because they are there for their shared love of Star Wars. I wouldn't want to guess as to why the word "inclusive" bothered you so much, but why would you want to exclude any specific person from enjoying something that you also enjoy? That seems silly. the more people that support something you like, the more likely it is to continue to be successful.

Seeing Hayden “receive his flowers” after the backlash the actors got initially when the prequels came out is awesome to see
interesting parallels between now and then. It’s not the actors fault; I see people treating Daisy Ridley with more respect. So hopefully people can separate the two.

The issue was he was actually scheduled on Saturday and all of us got our spots well over an hour early waiting his appearance... you can imagine how disappointed we were after 15 minutes of delays when they eventually gave up waiting and brought out Kathleen Kennedy instead with no communication that Hayden couldn't make his spot. Bringing him out the next day felt like a real kick in the teeth for us 1 dayers 😢
To millions of kids (who are now adults) he was their childhood hero as anakin skywalker, he certainly was mine, to see him come back to the franchise and play anakin again is such a great thing to see. In my opinion he played the perfect anakin, and to all of us he truly is the chosen one.

Revenge of the Sith was the first Star Wars film I ever watched, back when I was in 4th grade. His performance as Anakin is one of the main reasons I was hooked to Star Wars ever since. I’m 29 now, and I’m so happy to still him see play Anakin. Hayden, you were always loved my friend 🙏

I just watched the prequels for the first time a few weeks ago with my 20 year old son and was blown away by the movies. My son and I both loved them! I didn't really know anything about prequels beforehand, so I was not prepared for such an emotionally intense and heart-wrenching story. I loved how the prequels brought George Lucas' vision and story to life. Hayden Christensen was the perfect Anakin Skywalker! His acting was phenomenal. Thanks for this beautiful piece of art and culture.

Finally! Finally, this man gets the love he deserves. I recently introduced my fiancé to Star Wars and when we got to the prequels, she had the same conclusion I've had for years: the problems with those movies were not the faults of the actors. You can tell that Hayden tried his hardest to play out the character he was given, where the scripting failed he tried to make up for it with emotional expression and intensity. He didn't slack the performance or give up. His performance as an actor feels dedicated to the franchise and the character he was representing, knowing how much baggage was resting on him to portray this character. So this outpouring of love and support really brings a tear to my eye, it's so good to see.
While I totally agree with your sentiment, the script is nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be, people like to act like the originals were flawless masterpieces, they both have some flaws but the pros far outweigh any of that
got into star wars because of the prequels. After RotS, the story for me ended. So am not really a SW fan. Am a fan of the prequels and of that story. It just felt sincere and unique with a Shakespearean vibes to it. And this guy nailed his character of Anakin.

Hayden was criticized really hard for his acting and for awhile that's what it seemed like, that people hated the movies and the actor's performances. I watched the original trilogy first and then i was curious about Anakin's BACKSTORY and my friend told me the prequels are about him
So i gave a shot and i never really found his acting weird or bad,

People can like or dislike the prequels, but hating the actor is just wrong. He gave it his all, and we love him for the effort he put into his character. Hayden IS Anakin Skywalker.

They just disliked the poorly written script he had to deal with, especially in Episode 2.
He just had to face a lot of the backlash cuz he's the actor, you got all the credit or blame as the actor a lot of time.
In this case, really it was George Lucas that deserved all the hate, he wrote the god awful dialogue for Hayden.
Even Mark Hamill during the original trilogy begged George Lucas to rewrite certain lines for Luke. Mark said to George "George please change these lines, no one talks like this." And George actually did rewrite certain lines Mark Hamill didn't like.
Hayden didn't deserve any blame, the poor kid playing Anakin in Ep. 1 didn't deserve any hate, only George did.

Being a huge Star Wars and Canadian fan since I was 6, I can’t even imagine growing up and getting this role as Hayden did and the pressure I’m sure that came with it. You pulled it off perfectly and keep going with it. #1
He played the role fantastic, people say he is wooden and his acting is terrible, i think he played it great, he was the ackward teen in love, then a war veteran with mixed emotions and a lot of frustration and anger, he did the character justice!
I was like 6 when my dad introduced me to the OT AND prequels. And everytime I see Hayden I feel emotional. He’s been my hero since I was 6.

This is my favorite interview of all time . I couldn't stop crying seeing him be supported and loved after all this time. Anakin means a lot to me and I've always identified myself with the moody anxious teenage and the way he played it .
