Reminds me of the Russian fantasy movie --- I am Dragon. The opening plotline seems so similar.
Only difference is that the Russian fantasy movie was romantic with a happy ending.

This reminds me of the russian fantasy film ( based on an old ukrainian tale ) about a princess and a dragon shapeshifter, to whom she was ( accidentally ) sacrificed.
It's called "I am Dragon" ( or "He is Dragon" in some translations ).
Very good, unique transformation scenes, great scenery and visuals and an absolutely enchanting story with a brave and clever princess with some character flaws ( who isn't a Mary Sue though ) and a strong, but insecure dragon guy.
You are not the only one! Actually that film was based on the book " The Ritual" by an acclaimed Ukrainian writing duo (husband and wife), representatives of the fantasy genre and recipients of many literary awards. They also wrote the movie script (loosely) adapting their book. Sadly, I think the husband has since passed away.
Seems fascinating, the storyline seems full of suspense and thrill. Waiting for the release. Every story on Netflix seems brand new and exciting.

i love the setting. unfortunately, the trailer looks like the definition of mediocore.
damsel in distress, helps herself, dragon and her become allied in some way. going back to the kingdome and change the system. yea. will watch.
Honestly kinda sad cause the setting and the costuming looks good but I doubt the plot will be good, like how many times have we seen “strong female character” saving herself, rejecting the damsel trope MANY TIMES, this movie is trying to act like it’s the first time.
This movie isn’t even about a damsel, if you want to bring some changes with the character while still keeping faithful to the trope, you can have a knight saving the princess life from the dragon so she can become the rulers in her kingdom than the wicked witch, that would’ve payed off well but this film might be mediocre (maybe I’m wrong)
