    I love reviews filmed during loud wind at a firing ranges with guns going off. Good production

    Just remember that his logic here only applies if you have shorter arms. I'm 6 ft 3 inches with long arms so it makes it very unnatural for me to have to draw so high next to the hip. I don't like to hyperextend as well but I would rather have the firearm resting next to my natural arm position so I can just draw without having to reach up from my resting position to achieve my master grip.

    Drop legs work best high up on the leg. Wherever the hand falls naturally .

    I've always just said If you're using a plate carrier, run a drop leg. If not, just attach to the belt. If you're using a plate carrier, you're running a rifle. If you're running a rifle, your sidearm is a side thought. A drop leg holster keeps it out of the way of your more important gear but keeps it still within reach. I currently run a Spiritus Systems LV119 and will definitely be getting a drop leg for that setup. I find that drawing from a holster on my belt will be annoying because my gear gets in the way of my draw. I COULD move stuff around and try to make it viable to draw from the belt but that would throw off the weight distribution I currently have on my rig. Being comfortable in your gear and moving freely is the most important part of shooting sports and gunfighting.

    The reason I love my drop leg holster is it's adjustable. I keep my holster exactly where my hand sits normally. People argue that open carry is dangerous (I don't disagree per se) but I can deploy my weapon extremely fast without ever getting caught in clothing or coats.

    You are probably sharing some very good information, problem is between the wind and the firing line you can't be understood. Better luck next time.

    Tip: as long as you can cup your fingers around the bottom of your holster you will be good. I would not recommend anything lower..

    I want my holster to ride about shin length so I can gangster lean far enough to draw it.
    Jokes aside. You’re video is correct. Next time though, maybe wait for a lull in the fire to film a video. Just a suggestion

    If the extra inch lower it sits is the reason I die then that's how I was meant to go out. Also dunno if others have this problem but I'm a 6 foot smol boi and the traditional mid ride mount digs into my femur somthin fierce. Set it up how it works for you and not how it works for some tacticool dood, don't set yourself up for failure.

  • @woodlandreconjoshdrakes5509

    Makes sense. I didn't want my holster to ride too high. But not too low. Informative video. Thanks

  • @nathan00campbell

    I keep favoring holsters high on the belt with the holster canted so that the muzzle points to the rear. This way when I sit in a vehicle I can still draw by lifting straight up instead of trying to push back into the back of the seat. With that style holster you have on in this video, would something like that still be possible or is that just going to be miserably uncomfortable when seated. I find the lower that the holster sits the worse it is when in the vehicle. But the faster it is when standing. I understand there's no one size fits all but just curious your thoughts

  • @ghostmost2614
    @ghostmost2614 Před 2 lety +2

    Question.
    Why wouldn't the holster be in a location where your hand would naturally be a majority of the time, swinging to and fro as you walk.

    • @theek2008100
      @theek2008100 Před 2 lety +1

      Because your hand wont be there swinging to and fro as you walk while you are operational. Drop leg holsters have one benefit, they allow for a good draw of your handgun IF your kit is in the way. Thats it. 1. They are slower. 2. They are less efficient (the holster moves while you walk / run - bad muscle memory for efficient and fast aquiring of gun) 3. Its is way harder to defend your gun while grappling on the ground from someone trying to get to it. etc.
      It´s simple, if you need a drop -> go as little down as you have to to clear the kit and if you dont need it, avoid it.

  • @bootsontheground4913
    @bootsontheground4913 Před rokem +1

    I gotta say, carrying on the hip is one of the most unnatural carry positions I've ever tried. Maybe its just me, but having the gun where my hand naturally rests while walking or standing seems much more logical. Maybe you walk around with t-rex arms, but I do not.
    I want to make as few stops as possible while drawing my pistol. When I have my pistol onna drop platform on my thigh, it rests at hand position- I can draw as I raise my hand toward the fire position.
    If my pistol is holstered at my hip, I have to bring my hand up, backward toward my hip, draw my pistol, and then bring it forward into firing position. A hip draw is A-B-C instead just A-C

  • @LoveLikeaHurricane
    @LoveLikeaHurricane Před 3 lety +5

    can't say that this thing he is holding is a drop leg. It looks like a mid ride holster that is adjustable for height, and a platform to route a leg strap on. A drop leg holster usually has a few straps around the thigh and connects to the belt by another strap.

    • @squirreltakular9049
      @squirreltakular9049 Před 3 lety +1

      It's the very definition of a drop leg: the body of the holster, or what it's connected to, isn't directly attached to the belt. The Safariland he's holding just uses a plastic flex connection instead of a nylon strap.

  • @THEJake829
    @THEJake829 Před 11 měsíci

    A better argument is "find what works best for you, no one thing works for everyone."
    Yeah, having your holster down on you knee is a bad idea. But "Just below my belt" doesn't do it for everyone. I tried running mid and low ride safarilands, but they would always cause me issues with getting hit on vehicle interiors. Run a flex mount at a lower height and I never ran into issues, and if anything made my draw faster.
