I'm going to get roasted for this comment but I think Roger has a better more purer voice the Freddie.
This past weekend, this entire show played at IMAX Theatres. I saw it at a laser dome - holy moly - Roger was/is a beast and you could "feel" it. I saw Queen in 1977, 1978 & 1980 - basically same tour but I saw them in Oakland, and it was close to live but front row and stage - pretty cool
The beer bottle was on the piano as "advertising" for one of the concert sponsors. The others in the band may have had beer, but Freddie only kept tea with honey to drink during a full set to keep this throat from getting dry. He never drank anything carbonated before or during a performance because he didn't want to risk burping into the mic, he felt it would be disrespectful to his audience. If you want to see what a magnificent front man he was, watch Queen at Live Aid 1985.

Queen were not big into sponsorship, they used to lose money on touring.
It was also confirmed Freddie did drink alcohol during a show, usually vodka and beer, it was champagne and sparkling water he avoided because they did make him burp. He actually did a show when he was absolutely smashed on alcohol and could barely walk, in fact he was so drunk he put his pants on backwards.
Freddie can be seen drinking beer on stage sometimes, such as on Wembley. He has a plastic cup with a yellow drink with a frothy head, it's clearly beer. He drinks beer on stage here too.
This will never topped. Each member is a genius in their own right. Roger Taylor on the drums, Brian May on the guitar and John Deacon on bass guitar. Most acts these days would be worried about the drummer having such a good voice.

No autotune, backtrack, or earpieces. Just four guys out there jamming and entertaining. Definitely one of the greatest, probably the best. Live Aid set would be another great one to react to for their complete set or their Brazil 🇧🇷 performance for the unbelievable crowd interaction. Queen was something special. ❤ actually they still are and will always be.

When they did Bohemian Rhapsody in concert, they just ran the tape for the huge choir part ( "bismillah" etc ), then came out to perform the rest of it.

Freddie was without doubt the greatest front-man of all time, great voice, amazing stage-presence, full of energy, very sadly missed, died much too young. And he did not drink alcohol of any sort on stage, he had a throat problem causing it to dry-up when singing, he mostly drank tea with honey to ease it. The bottle was a sponsor prop.
You will NOT hear or see genius like this again in this or the next 5 generations. We are only blessed to experience art like this once, and that’s it. LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!!!!

As far as talent and performing ability goes, Devin Townsend is right there with Freddie. However, Freddie is one of the best entertainers and front men. Devin is just a humble, wry front man that jokes with the crowd some. In that aspect, Freddie is still in a class all his own.
Queen was amazing. Besides having Freddie, maybe the best rock singer and front man ever, every member of the band wrote a #1 song for Queen at some point. Not sure if anyone else did this. Brian May, the guitarist, is literally a Phd in astro physics. And he hand built his guitar, the Red Special, with his dad when Brian was a teen. All super talented.

I was so lucky growing up in London listening to Queen. I was a fan from the age of 10.
It's Dr Sir Brian May these days and they all have degrees which contributed too the group, also groups in the 60's such as The Beatles also all wrote the songs again for their groups or later for solo careers

Freddie Mercury was the most charismatic lead singer of a band ever, and Queen one of the finest live Bands. Their performance at 'Live Aid' at Wembley Stadium in 1985 was one of the best live sets ever. Freddie had the 100,000 plus audience in the palm of his hand!

I'm 63 years old and had the privilege of seeing Queen live twice in the 70s. I remember Freddy coming on stage with a glass of champagne dressed in red, white & blue silk short, shorts with a crown on his head.

Queen is one of the biggest British rock bands formed in 1970. Freddie Mercury had one of the best voices around with an amazing range. He was a real showman as the live concerts show. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is their most famous song but they had so many great hits in the 70's-90's such as "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Love Of My Life", "You're My Best Friend", "Who Wants to Live Forever", "Somebody To Love", "Fat Bottomed Girls", "The Show Must Go On" etc.
I mean, beyond the singing and musicianship, the incredible showmanship and stage presence of this band, mostly of Freddie Mercury, is just killer!
Best band that ever will grace this earth. All such talented musicians.

Maddie, the beer wasn't really a problem for Freddie. Queen's incredible performance of this song is iconic.
If you haven't already, you MUST check out Queen's set from Live Aid, July, 1985. It's a little over 20 minutes long, but, never a dull moment.

Ok here i am leaving another comment on Maddys chanel, It is so fun to watch younger people that really get how great music was when musicians actually played musical instuments. Rap/Hiphop came out in the mid 80's, I am still waiting for the 4th different melody and beat 24 years later. haha we seem to be stuck on 3 total different beats/melodies

This is truly a wonderful performance. I had the good fortune of seeing Queen live with Freddie in Sweden 1984 and 1986. He was probably one of the greatest entertainer and frontmen ever.

It's so sweet hearing you comment on Freddie's piano playing. His pristine Yamaha will be sold at auction at Sotheby's UK in a few weeks for between 3 and 5 million dollars. He created/wrote songs on piano mostly. Although he did write couple of songs on the guitar... "Ogre Battle" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" (in the bath no less!). Keep watching Queen Live... and remember, even though the sound is amazing, it was a totally different time. (mostly addressing the alcohol and drugs you will hear about) *The Live Aid* show is a must watch... worth every 23 minutes.

He was an absolute diva and wouldn't have had it any other way. Neither would I! He was one of a kind, for sure! In fact, you will not find a single person who described Freddie Mercury as a "pain in the ass". The people who lived with him certainly didn't. Peter Freestone, who was his personal live-in assistant, called him "the kindest and most generous friend anyone could wish to have".

This killed it when I saw them at Madison Square Garden 43 years ago in September. It was part of this tour.
This is about halfway through the show. If you watch this concert in order he starts out fully dressed, by the end he's barefoot and in short shorts.

The Montreal show was a two night concert set up to be filmed which is why the quality is so good. The film maker intended to use the best parts of each night to create a one concert film for broadcast. They asked Queen to dress the same each night, told the audience not to get to raucous and even expected Freddie to do the same "choreography" both nights. Freddie's reaction was to change his dress, continually try to pump up the crowd and, well, Freddie didn't choregraph his performances so that wasn't even an issue! LEGEND.

According to Ratty (aka Peter Hence), Freddie's roadie, he always placed glasses of water (with lemon and honey) and Heineken on the piano for Freddie. BTW - Ratty was also the mic wrangler who handed Freddie the mic when he rose from the piano and would take it back when Freddie returned to the piano. Poor Ratty sat crouched behind the piano during the whole concert. Believe it or not, Freddie and Ratty rehearsed the mic exchange until it was perfect.

Most of those drinks on the piano were beer for the band, Freddys drinks were water and honey, to sooth his throat during the concert. That's not to say that Freddy didn't have a beer or two available there too, if needed.
Freddie has both cups of tea with honey and beer on his piano. He drank a lot of tea during his performances and towards the end of the concert would move over to beer. There is a video interview talking about the bands preferences of drinks during concerts. Most didn't drink alcohol during the concert. Not a typical rock band of that time with no alcohol and drugs..

I was fortunate to see Queen in Chicago where I live in 1978 at The Chicago Stadium. The seats I had with girlfriend was way back near the rafters. But did not care. Awesome show. We did not know it at the time how big and legendary they would become.

Not a problem at all. In all I've read about Queen there was only one night where Freddie was somewhat drunk onstage. Still managed the show because he and Queen can do anything :) Four guys on stage singing and playing. No autotune, nothing. Pretty f*king incredible!
