    Welcome to what many consider the greatest song of all time! And although the live performance is iconic, I hope you treat yourself to listening to the original studio recording from their fourth album in 1971. It is pure brilliance! Jimmy Page, who is considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, intended to have the band mix both light and heavy in their music. And that is partly where the band name comes from. Led for heavy and Zeppelin for light!… Please react to the studio version of Whole Lotta Love from their second album in 1969 one of the greatest riff rockers of all time. Thanks!

      Another version is that when they formed the group they decided to give it this name in reference to the fact that if it didn't work. Its fall would be like that of the Hindenburg zeppelin but made of lead.

      Yeah, that's a crazy title, and it appears twice on two different recordings, slightly altered. There's the Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp, and the basic Bron-Yr-Aur (no "Stomp", a shorter instrumental which sounds a bit like some kind of reprise of the original, appearing on Physical Graffiti). I think one may also be spelled with just the "Y" (not "Yr"), but I spell them the same with the "Yr" - it's all confusing enough as it is.

    The band name comes from a conversation when they were starting out. Jimmy Page is the guitarist and was in the 60s band The Yardbirds and in order to honor contractual obligations Page put the band together with new member as the other Yardbirds members quit. They called the band the New Yardbirds but after meeting their obligations they needed a name the conversation with member of the band The Who told Page the group would go over like a lead balloon - so from their came Led Zeppelin and the rest is history. Also, Page is one of the greatest guitarist and as a matter of fact the Yardbirds were the source of three of rocks greatest guitarist, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.

      Not quite correct. Page was told that he couldn't continue using the "New Yardbirds" name for the post Yardbirds group. Keith Moon and John Entwistle said that a super group with both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page would "go over like a lead balloon". Page adapted the comment, their manager suggested taking the "a" out of lead and they changed balloon to zeppelin.

Dig deep on youtube and all will be revealed. Page could not play like most of these guitar masters, but only in his wildest dreams .Here's one example amongst possibly hundreds of other Master guitarists..... For those of us who were fortunate enough to be teens when Zep burst upon the scene, it was always incredible how they could come out with one great, not good, but great song upon song, album after another. Then when they could produce such insane stuff like this, it was just mind blowing, because all of it was just soo different. U never knew what to expect, except to expect greatness.
    we were blessed with the fact that the Mighty Zep was just interested in making the music they wanted to, not trying to produce commercial stuff that would fit on 45's so they could make money.
    When Bonzo died, R and R was never the same.

    The thing that makes this song so iconic is its constantly climbing, like a stairway. Btw.. Elvis also had a double neck Gibson SG except his was a 6 string bass on top and the standard 6 string guitar on bottom. Jimmy's is a 12 string guitar on top and the standard 6 string on the bottom. Fun Guitar Fact: A guy named Les Paul (who was also a musical act with his wife Mary Ford) designed the SG and the Les Paul. He sold both designs to Gibson Guitars but he didnt like the SG and told Gibson to not put his name anywhere on it. So they named it SG for Solid Guitar. Both the Les Paul and the SG are iconic. Angus Young from ACDC played a Gibson SG exclusively. Proof that one mans trash is another mans treasure. And yes... Jimmy Page is the OG ROCK STAR GUITAR GOD! You know what makes a great guitarist a good person? When they show you how to play their stuff like them. Jimmy was very gracious with fans, he taught us to play guitar! Same with Dimebag Darrell from Pantera. Find some "Dimebag home videos" on youtube. He was another, more recent, rock star guitar God. Sadly he was shot and killed on stage in 2004.

    I saw the LA show In this first part Plant is backlit with a golden light and was such a beautiful effect.
    One of the necks is a twelve string, which he uses for the next song in the set, The Rain Song

    Yes. That guitarist is one of the greatest of all time. Jimmy Page. The greats: Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Edward Van Halen, Eric Clapton. Jimmy Page was my greatest influence and inspiration when I picked up a guitar for the first time more than 50 years ago. I eventually found my own style and voice on guitar, but there will always be some Jimmy Page in virtually everything I play.
    BTW, in concert back then Zeppelin played for 3+ hours a night. Their song Dazed and Confused clocked in at more than 20 minutes live back then. Their stamina was amazing. I saw them 3 times live. Yes, Jimmy Page is one of the greats.

  • @mickbacon8542
    @mickbacon8542 Před 10 měsíci +3

    You picked out the main quality that many other commenters miss. The greatness in their music is their ability to create a 'feeling/ emotion' with their music. Playing dazzlingly fast guitar solos, or heavy and loud riffs is relatively easy. To create and play music that creates emotions in your audience is far more difficult and Led Zeppelin are one of the bands that do this so well. The thing that gets me about this song is that it starts off as a quiet ballad but ends up as loud, heavy rock and they have managed to take you through this transition without you really noticing.
    Another band from that era that creates emotion with their music is Pink Floyd.
