Thank you, Man! I'm 86 and just dealt with the worst clog ever. Plunger? No good. Snake? No good. Full bottle of Dawn? No good. Toilet auger like you used? No good. Then I watched your video, where you recommended a second go with the toilet auger. On the second go-around, it worked! I was ready to call a plumber, but your advice about doing a second go with the device did the trick. Thanks much! You're a hero!

Home Depot ripped me off with their rusty auger they rented me. Wouldn’t work. Bought the same auger you are using for $15 and unclogged it. There was a 2” round vitamin bottle cap stuck. You gave me the technique to do it! Thank you!! Plumber wanted $225 or $700 to take the toilet off. Ladies, you can do it. Just do it! 🎉

All else had failed so I bought an angle auger at HD for about USD10.50. It took two tries with the angular snake and all of a sudden, a loud "swoosh" about a foot down stream from the toilet and down wet the water. Worst clog I've ever had and it's all gone. Thanks for the video & the suggestion. Very clean too. No mess around the toilet too. Sweet!

Wow, the hot water with dish detergent worked a miracle! My toilet has been hard flushing, requiring plunging after most No. 2 dumps to the point of annoyance. But just recently even the plunger wouldn't do the trick. So I used about 1/3rd of a bottle of dish detergent with hot water that mixed with the standing water and let it stand for only 15 minutes. Then with plunger in hand ready to provide mechanical assist I pressed down the flush lever. To my amazement the lubrication from the hot water and detergent must have loosened the clog as it instantly flushed perfectly without using the plunger. Thank you for this wonderful advice! I probably used a dollar's worth of detergent, a lot cheaper than maybe several hundred dollars to call a plumber.

One of my toilets has been clogged for a few days and filled up the entire bowl from several attempts of using the plunger and flushing it. I tried everything I saw on CZcams, from plunging, adding vinegar & baking soda, dish soap. Nothing worked. Then I saw this video. Bought the toilet auger at Home Depot for $15. Had to repeat the snaking 3 times. 3rd time was a charm. It finally unclogged it and all the nasty guck went down the drain automatically. Took me 45 minutes including the clean up. The clog looks to be the result of a brick (sorry for the visual). Needless to say, I ended up throwing away the toilet auger after completing the task. I tried cleaning it up to use again for the next time but couldn't remove all the guck from the small end of the coil. Decided it was just not worth it to have the germs from it hanging around the house. Besides, this thing already saved me probably $200 - 300 of plumber charges. Thank you so much for making this video. It's the most helpful one I've seen on CZcams. Finally, the toilet can be used again for more deposits! Woohoo!

Dude, you are my FOREVER Hero! I'm so excited this worked. Everyone needs to try that soap trick first! I used a lot-- half a small container -- of that super cheap slippery Milk and Honey Softsoap, all at once (helps the smell factor too). Then slowly poured in super hot water from the faucet. One Tweak: Give it longer than in the video, keep adding more hot water as the level drops, stay on it like a bulldog. I kept doing this for 10 minutes until it started moving ever so slightly. After 20 minutes it was GaFLOOP! Scared me half to death, the whole clog slurped down all at once! (Might not work with a GI Joe tho.) I've never heard of this, it totally worked! Saves the co$t of a plumber, nasty splashing with plungers that never work, and scary icky snakes (I'm more ok with real ones.) Bravo, to the videographer too. Seriously, Thank you !!!

@@leecuen6379 that probably means that you guys had too much toilet paper or maybe not toilet paper but some other kind of paper towel or something you flushed. I've never had a toilet back up until now at the dorm. But it is backed up because something is definitely been dropped in that joint by accident or on purpose. If you were able to get it clean and flush properly just using soap and hot water you are lucky my friends. Wow man... Wish me some luck because I've tried what you just said and I've tried everything else he mentioned and nothing worked. The last option is to take the toilet up. Looking in area within the toilet some people caught the gooseneck according to my pop. Something's trapped in that area and if there's not even trapped in that area then we got a major problem here. And don't think just because we're in a dorm on this college where we paid tuition they don't charge us. They absolutely charges where I am for things like I'm talkin. If something accidentally gets knocked off into the toilet and then flushed that is considered self inflicted or not a natural poop issue LOL. Wish me luck man. All jokes aside we really have a deal with the dorms and that would be wear and tear or something that's not considered wear and tear. Lucky enough the door my Matt has 2 / room but we have our own toilet so it's not like we got to run down the hall. Any suggestions since you been through this? We got a choice to call the maintenance in on-campus which charge an absolutely ridiculous amount or call a plumber that charges 60 or 70 bucks just to walk through the front door. Trying to do everything possible to prevent this. I wish they could just add it on to the loan they gave me to go to school lol

It's an AUGER not angular. The way to use an auger is to rotate it through the clog. Most are clockways as yours is. You start turning it from the beginning so it can twist it's way through your clog. You don't want to turn it backwards because what ever is trapped on the end will come off. Always use gloves. If you follow these tips, you'll have a much better experience.

I usually try the plunger first, then hot water with soap or bleach, and last resort use the auger. But I like the previous comment of use the back scratcher or toilet brush to chop up a big stool. And every toilet or sink should have a plunger nearby. By the way most of your drain openers are concentrated bleach so save yourself some money. Also cleans too.

Recently dealt with a clog far worse. It refused to unplug - clog was in horizontal plumbing under the floor. Nothing worked - tried three snakes, a compressed air unclogging gun, Muriatic acid. None of it freed it up.
Ended up removing the toilet. Bolts were on it since I built the home in 1982 (38 years) and required a Dremel tool with a metal cutting abrasive disk to cut off the bolts. Removed the toilet and there was the "water" level about 8" down, but not the clog.
Based on which drains worked in the two full baths and those that did not, I could tell where the clog was - about 8 inches down and 12" to the left of the toilet flange. Clog was not visible - it was deeper into the plumbing where Y fittings were.
Covered the beeswax on the flange with blue garage disposable towels, then used a large adapter with a pneumatic unclog gun - 30 psi blasts were no help. What worked? A few full-force shots with a tough toilet plunger along with slow water running down the sink in the same bathroom. Soon the water went down and disappeared, and did not return.
Acid I dumped in the sink before removing the toilet cleaned the pipe like new. Clog moved on down into the septic tank through a 4" pipe. (I know acid kills needed tank bacteria but will restore that after a few days using a box Rid-X. It restores the needed bacteria in the septic tank with a simple toilet flush.)
Clog was caused by a woman using excessive toilet paper after a #2, flushing more than once. Acid did help to dissolve the waste and paper. So why remove the toilet? Beeswax seal blew out and could not get enough hydrostatic pressure using the toilet plunger in the bowl.

I have to thank whoever mentioned using a mop in a bin bag! what a life saver, or turd retriever?! or whatever.
I don't know what I had eaten but all that was missing was rebar in order for my excrement to have been used to construct and support buildings! I tried everything short of going for a swim in the bowl myself to retrieve what I can only imagine was the size of a babies arm!
Anyhow I finally gave the mop in a bag trick a go and within minutes a very satisfying woosh sucked the big brown limb away to a better place.
I did however have to replace the bottle of shampoo, explain why the mop was in a bin bag and change my morning routine to include bran!

My plunger did not work for me and it was late at night so I tried the dish soap. I squirted a bunch in, let it sit for about 7 or 8 minutes. Then addded a large pot of hot water. I was worried that it would just stay high and sudsy, but I gave it a few plunges and it went down. I followed it with more hot water and then regular flushes and it worked!! Thank you. I would never have thought of the soap method.

Can't thank enough for this. I bought one and used it for 1-2 mins. That was good enough.
One additional tip. Along with using a glove, have a bleach spray handy. When done, you can spray some inside the shaft walls where the snake goes in. And spray some on the snake itself as you pull it out. That way its atleast sanitized enough to drop it on the bath tub before you wash it off.
Even if you want to dispose the auger, it may be a clean way of doing it.

Actually laundry detergent or cascade dishwasher powder makes things slide at least as well as dish soap and are not harmful like the strong chemicals that usually don't work anyways. If the clog is in the ceramic part of the toilet the plunger (he shows the best type for toilets) might work and don't just try to force it down but agitate the clog by pushing and pulling just to loosen things up and maybe break it up. Take the lid off the tank so you can see how to stop the bowl refilling and overflowing because plungers work best with the bowl reasonably full, that way you can keep it reasonably full without flooding the place. If the clog is in the main line past the toilet itself then the plunger will probably not help since your efforts will simply be pushing air up the vent pipe.
If that fails then the auger is a last result before calling a plumber who will have to pull the toilet to get a motorized cable (Snake) down the pipes.
And if you do have to resort to the auger remember it won't come out as clean as it went in so have a bucket or something to put it in handy and if the clog clears flush the toilet a few times as you pull out the auger, and by all means throw some soap in there while you do that.
I do this all the time at work and don't see soap damaging wax rings although plungers can on rare occasions which probably means the wax ring wasn't in good shape anyway.
