What a terrifying round; Simply peppers the trenches with air bursts and shrapnel seemingly covers a 25m radius pretty well. Insane.
I was literally saying to myself "that is terrifying if you believe a trench is safe-ish" when I read your comment. Holy crapoli that is unnerving.
Notice the systematic, rapid fire? Devastating....
@@ChironZore Right!?! It's like you may not get hit by the first round or so, but your time is up sooner than later.

1:31 - They're just showing off at that point. Each round is bursting with about 1 meter separation at almost the exact same height with no pause in firing. That's just impressive.
I couldn't even imagine being on the receiving end of that, depending on the range the sound of the cannon firing might not reach your position until the 2nd or 3rd shell has detonated.
Lol you saw that too huh

That AP flak is downright terrifying...I honestly never knew we had that kind of stuff. Obviously it makes sense but holy hell, getting blasted by a tank with basically a delayed shotgun shell from a couple hundred yards away? Scary stuff. Impressive, but scary.

Those airburst rounds are NUTS !!
I saw a video where a small proximity/timed shell of some kind was fired at a window on the second floor. It predictably burst in mid air just as it passed inside the window frame. No more blowing apart the outside of the building to breach the concrete blocks, or a round passing unimpeded through a window and leaving through the first room and into another unintended room somewhere behind it. That's useful for reducing "collateral damage" deaths to someone who didn't deserve it.
In situations where there's hostages in the area, you don't want a lethal air-burst round.. It's not intended to reduce collateral damage. It's a saturation weapon to eliminate hidden enemies and to saturate the target area with shrapnel.
Very scary. You either die or succumb to major physical trauma encountering one of those shells in close-proximity.
It looks futuristic as fuck
@will86 These are programmable proximity fused airbursting ammo, different.

Can't deny this bears a weird kind of aesthetics to it, and the fireworks are strangely entertaining, but one also can't deny that when this stuff is used for its intended purpose, a lot of people end up crippled or dead not even leaving enough body to be buried properly.

Boy, being a regular grunt sucks these days...
blackdave2211 yeah but regular grunts can fight back these days. Early ww2 a grunt had basically nothing other than grenades and anti tank rifles to fight the enemy armor.
I mean one looks at Yemen, Syria, Iraq and you can see how tanks and AFVs being hunted down by grunts with cheap anti Armour assetes.
Being a regular grunt's always sucked, but being a regular grunt in WW1 must have been the worst.
Machine guns and artillery turned grunts into their play things and you couldn't do shit about it if you were a grunt, lol.
Regular grunts have shoulder launched missiles built to kill tanks, and the planes are armed with anti tank weapons too. I would never operate a tank in the front lines.
Nah, only when APS come in and your missile is totally useless against a tank. Aditionally that tank that you just fired your useless missile at calculates your position in milliseconds and you meet airburst. Being a grunt really sucks these days, however mechanised infantry is more versatile and powerful than ever. Sadly neither the US Army nor the Marine corps have proper mechanised infantry.
+Dick Fageroni read my comment bruh.
As an autocannon conniseur from MechWarrior, I enjoyed this thump thump thumb immensely

LOL. I think you misspelled DARPA. 😜
One round of this thing prob costs more than my car.
It depends on the fusing or if they are depleted uranium for armor piercing. They probably run a coupe hundred unless they have the proximity fusing. Then the price goes up as they stick a miniature radar system in them. The price no doubt goes up from there.
I think modern airburst round technologies actually rely on a chip inside the round that detonates after a certain number of rotations from the barrel rifling. Its essentialy the same kind of thinking they use in the 40mm grenade launchers with their minimum range safety fuse.
@@shockwave6213 ^ this. Kudos for knowing your stuff.

There's so much technology, even in the rounds, it's crazy.
A few years back I read an article on camouflage and concealment that pointed out that in the near future our weapons were going to result in a battlefield environment where being undetectable/invisible to the enemy is paramount and where being seen or your presence detected is tantamount to being dead.
I feel like it’s also gonna get to where it will be IMPOSSIBLE to keep from getting seen.

assassinlexx sorry to disappoint you, but I ´m actually not one of your compatriots. Nevertheless, or maybe especially because of this fact, I do have a better global view of what is currently going on in the USA, a country I enjoyed to visit in the past, meeting some great people and therefore feeling just sad about the way lower educated or unilaterally informed people get trapped in the nets of some smart but evil powerful persons pulling the strings...
I never was a supporter of Hillary and her establishment, but to fight the Devil with Belzebub isn’t a solution either ! I know it would be wasted time to try to open the eyes of blinded and foolished people, so I won’t even try, but once again, it just makes me sad to witness how a nation which could be so great, is so easily divided by hate generated by his “leaders”, no matter if Democrats or Republicans, for the sole purpose of letting them become just even more rich and powerful !
Many Americans stick so much to the second amendment to ensure them to have the weaponry to “fight their own government ” if necessary, but so few do realize that if they would one time elect a government which REALLY cares about his people, such fears would not even exist. Damn’ , you have over 300 million people and the only choice left is between a narcissistic psychopath and an old man grown up in an elitistic establishment !

Advocatus Diaboli yea trenches only work in under-developed countries
Remember that there are only so many of the units available in the field and that they are far from impervious to anti tank weapons. Also, Anti Tank weapons have a much greater range.
These fighting vehicles are effective to drive into a hot zone and drop off troops while giving some covering fire. But then it really has to get out of there.
