I had an English teacher at my school for hearing impaired in Germany. And he told us about the one time he went to the US to another school for hearing impaired and even tried to pick up some ASL (GSL and ASL are different after all) but he accidentally signed “F*ck you” to an entire room of deaf kids. He thought he was saying good morning/good day… 😂

No this is the reason why I will never sign "Breakfast" using the initialized version. When I'm talking with the kids at the library where I work, I ALWAYS use the time-of-day + FOOD version of meal signs because I just don't want to have to deal with accidental cursing.
At a life drawing session I attended we had a deaf model and she was so funny. She asked if we wanted to draw her signing some stuff and one of the poses she came up with was her sitting on a chair, legs spread wide, with her hands signing "vagina" right in front of her actual vagina. That was a really fun session😂
My old asl teacher (who has a deaf son) told us when she was telling a story when she attended a deaf story telling event..and the prompt was “hungry” she signed horny over and over, stressing it each time. (Longer slower movements) Increasing the length of the word each time 😂. To her dismay every single person burst out laughing and was laughing the entire time but she kept going😂 at the end she asked (in sign) “why was everyone laughing I didn’t think it was that funny” only to be signed back “you’re prompt was ‘hungry’ but every time you signed it you said ‘HORNY’ so when you saw that sandwich you were very turned on by it”. She died of embarrassment 😂 but everyone was a good sport

My dad and I are both in the "profound loss" classification. My kiddo and I are learning ASL. I know we don't share the same experience entirely but teaching us these little mistakes are helpful when we aren't shown this stuff with our teacher. also, love the Johnny Cupcakes shirt.
“shy” and “wh/o/re” were the first common mistake i got taught by someone who actually knew ASL. anyways immediately after that she taught me how to sign “your mom gay” and i think about that a lot

When I was in high school, my ASL teacher told us a sign mixing story😂. A kid who liked her daughter was in her math class with her daughter(the ASL teacher also taught math) and the class was doing a group assignment. This kid and the teachers daughter decided to work together on it. This kid also had her for ASL. So when he went to ask if they could meet up after school to work, he signed it. Or tried, anyway. He was trying to sign "may I work with your daughter?" but he signed "make out" instead of work...😅. I've been so extremely careful with my signs since that story😂❤
