I was saved by a street preacher.
I wanted to follow Jesus, I believed in Jesus, but I didn't have knowledge of repentance.
Once I understood that I could not become a good person for Jesus, that I could only repent and believe, that I am only righteous by faith, and that is when I was no longer miserable in my sins.

I've preached open air many times since the late 80's on college campuses and events.
I'm trying to be more like Ray Comfort and Mike now.
And I REALLY appreciate the gracious encouragement. You're exactly correct about professing Christians being the worst critics of biblical evangelism. (Preaching being the primary manifestation of that)

From someone who's done it for 30 years or so; in various contexts from very confrontational to not very confrontational ... I would recommend ypu watch three people. Ray comfort, Mike Winger, and Michael Pearl. Michael Pearl's son Nathan is very good also.
Don't forget, evangelizing is a spiritual Battle. The devil wants to intimidate you in the shutting your mouth. It's a great encouragement to me that ray comfort said he still battles fear. Stay humble and remember, like, ray says that the sinner is blind and cannot see. Avoid being frustrated with their often unreasonanle responses.

@@MikeWinger I need some advice, I havea friend I served with in the military and is very close, has had a history in a type of denomination, I can't remember. He is a big believer in that all a saved person needs Is a Bible, the holy spirit, and God, and that churches are not needed. He also has a story of his own father becoming saved and claimed to have seen his father perform healings and casting out of demons. His beliefs is that all Christians are not fully matured until we perform the same acts, and that pastors for hundreds of years have been leading people astray or watering down the bible. He also believes that you can also lose your salvation. How would you talk to someone about these beliefs? Thanks

Street preaching is so important, you can choose whether or not to go to church, but with open-air preaching, you can't avoid it. It is bold, and it may seem confrontational, but that's what gets people to listen to the Scripture. Many do believe in work salvation rather than faith before works, but for the most part, they are amazing in what they do, and lord willing I can do open-air preaching as well.

The only issue I have is when people neglect to actually say the gospel and simply condemn people while uplifting themselves… for example, a street preacher yelling into a crowd, “Repent for you are all sinners, and God will condemn you for your actions. But I have come to save you by giving you this message” and well if the preacher is doing it out of pride and self righteousness and saying nothing about how God loves us and wants to save us from our terrible sin… simply saying “you are a sinner” without clarifying the good news of what God did for us isn’t preaching the gospel at that point. It’s simply hatred

I agree that’s why I’m so drawn to apologetics. I turned my back on God because I thought the childlike perception of God that I had was it and I had outgrown it as I grew up. I stopped believing in God just as I stoped believing in Santa. Apologetics opened my eyes to a deeper understanding of Christanity/God.

I saw Jesus at TV in a film about Gospel of Matthew, ( because French TV used to share Christianity for Christmas) . That's how I discovered Jesus Christ.

Word of Faith theology uses "faith comes by hearing the Word" (end emphasize hearing and hearing, repeatedly) to say take a verse you want and repeat it, post it, read it, etc over and over until you have confidence it will come true. Having left such false theology this year, I know that is wrong, but, thanks Mike, I think I better understand the verse now. It's not hearing and rehearing one verse or theme (that's more either vain repetition or even witchcraft depending on the motivation) rather, hearing the Word is to hear the whole counsel of God, if you want more faith, hear the Word, the Word wholeistically, the whole story, and in gaining fuller understanding you again stronger faith in the God who planned it all. (which doesnt equal more prayers answered, although understanding Gods will in accord with His word might produce more prayers in line with the Word, which is the kind of prayer God says he answers)

so true about christians being the most intolerant of street preaching. The tares speak against the wheat. I am a firm believer in the spiritual transaction that takes place within us when Jesus's name is mentioned. Sadly , i dont believe those "christians" know Him. There is power in His name. Pay attention the next time a deep conversation among any group of people (especially luke warm "christians") and all the while pay close attention to the demeanor of those involved in the convo as these terms are used: God, Buddha, Allah, the universe (as a concious entity...yep, some do) or ANY other "god". The moment you bring Jesus into the conversation everything will change. Something happens within them and they expose themselves much like a "tell" (i.e. -when bluffing ) in poker. This ranges from fierce anger, subject changing, overly dismissive of Him compared to the aforementioned "gods", bothered and trying to hide it, uncomfortable laughter or even leaving the room. I have witnessed this over and over again in my life. As followers and lovers of Christ we delight and are joyous at the mention of His name...beware those "christians" that do not delight in His name being mentioned or His truth being spoken. They are tares amongst the wheat and the hardest (in my experience) to plant seeds in the pockets of. I used to be that guy.
3 things i used to say and "mean": i would not marry a woman that had a child (baggage), door to door evangelists were terrible and did more damage than good (mind you, i was raised in the church), and i referred to people that would talk biblical stuff as preachy bible bangers (and would avoid them). All the while calling myself a christian....
Since those days...Today--1) i am blessed with a daughter ive had for 14 years through marriage and the word "step" is not in our vocabulary- its just "daddy" and she is simply "my daughter".
    2) The most influential person (christian) that prompted my walk with Jesus to salvation, came to my house doing door to door witnessing and invited me to church with him!
    3) If i ever hear any mention of Jesus or anything biblical, i come a runnin! He and His Word are my passion!!
The Lord used 3 things i was against and blessed me greatly with those exact things. Hallelujah!!

There are different qualities of faith but not different quantities of faith. There is great faith and weak faith, but it isn't stated as "a lot of faith" and "only a little bit of faith". Quality rather than quantity. This distinction is helpful to those who are struggling with their faith, especially if someone tells them that they need to have "more" faith, as if faith could be measured and quantified. Rather it's the quality of their faith that is troubling them, and this will be changed as they get to know Jesus better.

I am 44. I am been on the streets quite a bit, even lived on them at times. I have seen many street preachers over the years and even conversed with them. I can honestly say as having been an atheist and a lukewarm Christian I never even understood their message. Their abrasiveness and dogma always shut my ears from the beginning of any encounter with them.
In principle I agree with them . I don't adhere to self righteous people who boast of their works. Some of these street preachers may qualify as that, some surely don't. That is something only God knows
Personally I like to speak the language of sinners when dealing with sinners. I want to give them truth but I want to have their ears before anything else. For what good is it to espouse the message to those who will not understand it.
I am from their world. I was an alcoholic heroin cocaine addict for 30 years. I am able to see through their eyes. They are turned off IMMEDIATELY by hearing the same harsh words over and over. My detractors would say,"but I tell them the truth" and then smugly dismiss me. But what they fail to open THEIR ears to is the so very important idea I seek to give them understanding of. There is a wrong way to say the right thing. These people of the world do not relate them. When they cannot find any common ground they will not take you seriously. It needs to be considered.
So I don't totally agree with my brother here. I am here because I value his opinion a lot. This is something I haven't been able to comfortably conclude on. I will not peddle a soft gospel. But people aren't listening and perhaps we should have at least some of us do it with a different approach. I stand by this. IDK, maybe some of us are meant to share the gospel one way and others another

I'm really enjoying this teaching through Romans. Here is what I thought you would reference on growing faith. Here Christ essentially teaches how to grow faith that can unroot deep rooted problems and cast them out into the see. His formula is a similar to your faith comes by hearing lesson. Christ teaches that as the servant obeys the master in humility their faith will grow as a result of enjoying the rewards of the master giving the instructions. As we obey, the experience will grow our faith to miracle levels.
Luke 17 5And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.”
6So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. 7And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? 8But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’? 9Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded [e]him? I think not. 10So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’ ”

I think a really important point here is mentioning the attitude and message of street preachers, many of whom use scare tactics and threaten people with hellfire with no prior relationship. Or cases of people condemning people before meeting them. You want to drive someone away from the faith, that’s a good way to do it.

    • @nccrchurchunusual7990

"Drive ppl away?" They are going to eternal burning HELL, how much farther away can they be? Timothy was told 2 Tim 4:2 to "reprove & rebuke." That does not sound nicey nice. So perhaps some lost ppl need harsh words & others need more reasoning tones- but I have found no matter what- The Gospel is offensive since it calls sinners to turn from their sin to Christ. Who wants to hear they have chosen a path that leads to destruction? Just something to consider.

I think with the street preacher thing depends on your belief about your relationship with God. Is it a personal relationship? Is it a, I can't think of any other ones, etc.
So if you come to the conclusion that yes, each person has an individual relationship with God, does yelling through a mega phone at a crowd help the crowds relationship with God? Nobody can hear the words on the other side of a megaphone cause it sounds bad... Or is the best way, to go up to one person, and ask them if you can talk to them about Jesus. Or just get into a 'normal' conversation and segway into talking about God. That way you have left that person with maybe some questions, and they leave thinking "That was a nice or interesting person" or anything like that. Rather than "Why do these guys have to be yelling at us everywhere we go". Nobody gets argued to Christ. I mean, I probably have the worst advice, cause I have never done 'street preaching'.

Doing this from a sincere heart could be more "saved" than the person that repeats a few words at a church service where the 3rd generation nick name for Yeshua (Iesous, Iesus, Jesus) is called on.
I'm encouraged to get back out on the streets, or Wal-mart. I had gotten discourage becuse Chinese people have been so reseptive and US people not so much. THANK YOU.

It's possible but I'm not so sure. Pray for an open heart. He knows the Gospel, yet you may be right - he needs it proclaimed as to a Jew. From the OT. Yesterday I was thinking that maybe his dad and mom will come to faith, which would really challenge him. I really don't know, this was just a thought of mine. The Orthodox community is close-knit so it would affect the whole community in one way or another.

Mike while I understand where you are coming from I also have a lot of experience with trying to have a difficult message received... I've been part of vegan protests and I find that extremely similar to street preaching. Both ideas are great if you do so with love and gentleness. If you are a vegan activist holding up a sign calling meat eaters murderers it doesn't matter how RIGHT your message is if you do it with that kind of attitude. Similarly, yesterday I was out with a friend and felt bombarded by street preachers even as someone who professes Christ and loves God I felt defensive because if the way they were preaching. They were saying "you will go to hell if you don't love God" well hold on a sec because you are preaching in a public space where there could very well be God loving Christians!! And it works the same way btw when vegans are protesting via name calling the biggest critics are other vegans and this is because we are the ones who care most about our own reputation. The reason I take issue with the manner in which a lot of street preaching takes place is because it damages our reputation if it is not done with love and gentleness. When you preach hell fire and brimstone to a bunch of sinners who know they are rejecting God I just think it goes in one ear and out the other. Just my take... I think engaging with people in conversation or having a demonstration that prompts people to ask questions is an effective way to spread a message that respects the recipient and I would absolutely love to be involved in that kind of evangelism... that sounds amazing...

Jesus called some folk vipers & hypocrites, and told ppl to pluck out their eye or cut off their hand- not gentle or pleasant.
I came to Christ bc of sermons about HELL. So I praise God for those harsh words- that was decades ago and praise Him more the older I get. As far as vegan is concerned, consider 1 Tim 4:3-4 and Rom 14:2-8. May we all care more about what The Holy Word of God says than our own take or cultural conditioning. God bless you.

first christians were not particularly streetpreachers :
42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
    acts 5:42 KJV
as Jesus said that the good news would be preached all over the world , and people would be judged on their reaction to this preaching , which means that everyone was to be reached (romans 10)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.
19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
Preaching is the way to salvation of those that will hear and react positive.
Internet is not the way alone .
from door to door true christians search for those that will obey:
11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence.
12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
    matthew 10
    God gave the increase.

Not sure it's entirely a sin issue unless ur preaching you have to stop sinning. It seems more like a PRIDE issue. Don't forget the thieves that died with Christ. One was saved but neither stopped sinning. These ppl may actually be resisting a false gospel in the name of sin, but that makes it a false gospel issue moreso than a sin issue. There seems to be 2 pills at best, presented in this vid. Either swallow the you need God for salvation pill, or the you need to stop sinning pill. Only one of these leads to salvation, and surprisingly the salvation pill is easier to swallow (I think).
