    It's funny that when the first of the modern superbikes was launched it was (arguably) the 900 blade with about 112bhp at the rear, and since then sportsbikes have been getting more and more powerful. It'll be full circle if we all go back to deciding that 700-900cc and 115ish bhp was the place to be all along....

    • @peterpl2105

      I don't think comparing it to "900's" is a thing - compare it to similar riding position/power. There are already ones out there-BUT THAT HASN'T STOPPED GSX-8R, DAYTONA 660 FROM COPYING CBR650R ( REMEMBER ITS NOT A BIG SELLER BECAUSE ITS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS) anyway gsxr 750 z900 are out there but seem ancient on the electric features

    • @langhamp8912
      @langhamp8912 Před 3 měsíci +4

      I rode the 900 blade when it first came out and it was too crazy for me, and I ended up getting a CBR600F2 which also, to be honest, was also a bit too much for me (but loved the looks). Many bikes later, I now have a 2022 XSR900 which is 10 HP more and 30 pounds lighter than that "insane" CBR900RR...but it sure doesn't feel like it. It's just a sweet and docile bike. Of course, it has some nasty teeth if you turn off the electronics completely (why would you do this?).

    • @morri03
      @morri03 Před 3 měsíci +2

      The first modern open class sports bike is the 98 R1, the first prototype of the modern electronically controlled Superbike is the 09 S1000RR in my view. The 92 blade was something else, an attempt to package a bigger engine in a 750 style chassis. Instead time has shown us the 750 class is defunct and open class sports bikes are 1,000cc plus inline 4 or v4 with significant electronics

      Call me crazy but the ZX looks like a proper race bike because of the swing arm. Besides, it comes with a fuel gauge. I only wish it had cruise control, but it's ride by cable.

      this is the upgrade for the R6, not R1. assuming it has the MT-09 engine, it would have 30 HP less than a R1, with the same amount of torque. MT-09 horsepower figures are closer to a R6, at 120 HP. though it has 20 more ft lbs of torque. just my 2 cents i think there will be 2 upgrades from Yamaha. R6 replacement and ofc R1 replacement, maybe a V4

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket Před 3 měsíci

      People have a hard time understanding power, unless they compare it endlessly to other models. The MT-09 runs about 120 hp and about 69 ft-lb. It's a middle road.
      MT-10 runs about 165 hp and 82 ft-lb. Unless you ride one, that additional power won't be understood. Similar to the 1290 Super Duke R, unless you ride one, that amount of torque can't be compared to something smaller.

    I would like to see what direction the bike takes in terms of street-to-track bias. My best guess would be a higher track bias yet a lovely engine for some day-to-day riding with the only road downside being a more aggressive riding position and ergos. Exciting stuff. Curious to see how it performs on track for an intermediate to advanced rider looking for a step up from something like the R7.The R7 to R1 is was a very reasonable difference and a tripple may offer a very nice middle ground at a higher price point brand new. Time to start saving now hmm..

I had a 22 SP and had to sell to move across USA. Loved it, just wished I could add a fairing to it and lower the bars. The 24 has lower bars but concerned about the foot pegs. I guess I will buy the 09SP and see if I can get a test ride on the R9 later an if God allows, get it. Will look sick Blue SP or R9 next to my Blue C8.

    Out of the competition that is not in the specific market of 900-ish CC middle-weight supersport, the correct comparison is not the Supersport950. But the PanigaleV2, also a WSSP competitor with 150hp. And then you have the MvAugusta F3 which is a 800cc triple also making about 150hp. Kawasaki having just released the new ZX6R-636 and Honda with the new CBR600RR. While the Kawa is not a homologation version for WSSP, the CBR600RR is. I don't think I would include the StreetTriple 765RS Moto2, although that is what they are using with Daytona plastics.
    But as of Ducati, you cannot compare it to the SuperSport950. Gotta go with the Panigale V2 as that is their competition in WSSP

    I told people already when they first announced the R7 that an R9 is coming out and that is will sell more than the R7 and no one believed me "An R9 makes no sense at all, it will not come out and it would not sell anyways because nobody wants it" "The R7 makes much more sense because it will be used a lot in Twin cup and Twin competition" and so on.
    The fact is that the MT-09 engine is a better engine for a street bike that people would wanna keep for longer than the MT-07 engine and also the R9 will then with the MT09 engine, be much closer to the now missing R6 and after 2025 remember also the R1 will be missing from the street legal lineup and will also only be sold as a track bike like the R6.
    While the R9 will not fill the void completely after the R1 it is more than enough for the street.
    I just hope that Yamaha does not make the R9 as aggressive as the R7 because that is the only complaint people have with the R7, they should have made it more semi-aggressive like the Aprilia RS 660 and the Ducati Supersport 950, those bikes still feels very sporty while riding but the clip-ons are raised just a bit so that you are more comfortable and can ride for longer. That being said I do not want the R9 to be like the Z1000SX / Ninja 1000SX where you are sitting straight up with your back, that just feels weird to ride a sportbike like that and it also looks really weird.
    Let's just hope now, that Yamaha is also having the R10 in the pipeline (MT-10 in a comfortable supersport-bike) and we would have a really nice streetfighter and comfy supersport-bike range =)
