Walnut Sideboard Full Build-No Power Tools Used! | Hand Tool Woodworking

- I built this sideboard over the course of 9 months and did not use any power tools at all to build it.

This project was first conceived in winter 2017, when my wife and I started designing the piece based on a number of different sideboards we had seen online. I tweaked the design over the course of a few months, off and on.
Then, since I am a teacher, it was a waiting game to begin the build during my summer break. So, in summer 2018, I bought the lumber from a local resident who supplies a variety of air-dried wood species.
From there, it was a matter of chipping away over time, and in the end, it was late March 2019 when I finished--so in total, it took 9 months.
I used no power tools at all during the build. So, even though I have a band saw, I did not use it. I didn't even use an electric drill.
Everything was 100% done by hand. The only electricity used was for the lighting and heating/air conditioning.

It takes 9 months for a masterpiece to be born.
Electrician by trade but recently needed something and built it myself.. now I’m hooked. It’s amazing that it’s a bigger cost to get the proper hand tools vs the power tools. Still going to go this route purely out of love for the process.

Holy cow, I can't believe you resawed walnut boards with a handsaw. When faced with that problem, I'd have grabbed car keys to buy some plywood, you grabbed a saw. The walnut incredible, excellent job!

As a powertool user it is extremely painful to watch the needed work to get few boards, but you have my absolute respect for patience and amazing craftmanship!

Man!! As someone who started out as a hand tool only guy I have so much respect for you and this build. It came out incredible, and I hope you are really happy with this piece. The dovetail drawers look so nice. If I made this piece myself I wouldn’t let it go for anything less than $5000. This really inspired me to quit being so lazy and get out and build something. Awesome stuff man! Subscribing for sure!
Thanks, man! I absolutely love this piece, and my wife does too which is great! Totally worth the effort for sure, and honestly, it was more about the marathon than anything else. Most days I wanted to work on it, and rarely did I feel burdened to do so. It was such a wonderful growing experience, but all that said... it will be a long time before I embark on another project this involved. 🤣😂
