Kansas is more than a classic rock band as well Trained musicians they are a very spiritual band experience if you listen to their music. Carry on My Waywatd Son, Portrait (He Knew), The Wall, Miracles Out of Nowhere, etc. Their lyrics are often deep and partnered with their exceptional and intrical musicianship. They are an interesting listen and deep dive. Dust in the Wind isn't creepy but hauntingly beautiful as reality and life being so precious and time in earth so brief. It's part of their spirituality as a band.
Well said, Joan. Very eloquent description of Kansas. Being a Kansan myself, it's nice to hear how special the band is to you. We revere them here at home. Thank you for explaining how amazing Kansas is...I could not have said it half as well as you did. Peace✌
Kansas wrote numerous songs themed around a seeker of mystical wisdom who confronts truths too powerful for the average soul. This is one of those songs. Others include: Child of Innocence, Point of Know Return, Carry on Wayward Son, and Portrait.
@@russellmorgan5611 Good point. I'm not sure. The Cheyenne have roots in that area. And, of course, Kansas wrote a song called Cheyenne Anthem. Their Monolith album featured a painting of an American Indian wearing a space helmet. I particularly loved two songs from that album: People of the Southwind and On the Other Side.
Another great one guys!! Gotta check out the video for their huge hit "Carry on my wayward son"..These dudes go to work on that track..Shout out from the old metal head from Detroit..Peace and love..
Yes Kansas band the original are all from the state of Kansas. They're all musical geniuses but very humble they would say they're not geniuses but they truly are .
if you want a prog rock classic "carry on wayward son" IS A MUST! absolutely fantastic, the melody, vocals, transitions - AMAZEBALLS. you will love it!
A top ten( or a bit more) list from a longtime Kansas fan: The Wall On The Other Side Hopelessly Human Journey From Mariabronn ( the live version from the album " Two For The Show " Cheyenne Anthem Song For America Mysteries And Mayhem/The Pinnacle Apercu/Death Of Mother Nature Suite Curtain Of Iron Angels Have Fallen Miracles Out Of Nowhere No One Together Belexes Imcomudro-Hymn To The Atman All prog, thoughtful and thought-provoking lyrics, keyboard excellence, hard guitars, and violin solos/riffs swirled in RIP Robby Steinhardt 🎻
This song is so beautiful. If you are feeling sad, stressed, listen this song and then you can feel so relaxed, happy, all your pains are gone. Close your eyes and pay attention to each instrument, feel the sound. Let yourself be carried away by the sound of the music and then you will feel immense peace and great happiness
The blond haired guitar player wrote the song. But a different way to look at it is that we shouldn't take anything too seriously. We aren't as important as we think we are. We are part of something bigger. It's very spiritual.
My Mom was from Topeka too. My Dad went to basic training and was stationed there during WWII. He met her there and they married after the War and he brought her back to Chicago.
Kansas was a garage band in Topeka and Terry Brumm figured they weren't going anywhere. He left to go off to college and an ROTC program becoming an Air Force officer who kicked himself everytime he heard Kansa who made it as big as you get.
Rush, Kansas and Boston, I've seen their fans go at each other like Ford Chevy Dodge truck guys do. Kansas has plenty upbeat music I'm sure you guys will love.
Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks, CO(God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 600 miles round trip with roughly $1.00 gas Hell yeah.😎😎😎😎 I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (former Harrah's outdoor venue) in 2018. Still killin' it. I still have this LP./Album. Carry on Wayward Sun. Point of Know Return. "All your money won't another minute buy"
Not only are they from Kansas, they are from Topeka which you have ties to. I'm in Lawrence which is about 25 minutes east of there down I-70. And when I was in my first living situation in college, my roommate was older than me and he was from Topeka and he knew some of those guys and so we even had some of their hand-me-down band equipment Incorporated into his massive stereo system. They have tons of great stuff and they were such an important and intelligent band. I really think Carry On Wayward Son should be the next stop as it was also a huge huge hit and I think probably their big break out hit. I remember when that dropped and it was on the radio just constantly and it was so amazing.
Literally stopped what I was doing….let’s go! ❤️🎥❤️so as a harmony singer- those duo intervals against the rolling arpeggios going on …. that’s some yummy stuff ❤️
I am from the state of Kansas and lived there back during those days when Kansas had hits and before that. I remember hearing about the big show out in the country at some barn or something and it was 'free beer' with admission... and then I remember them playing Wichita quite a bit and saying all that I almost hate to admit I never saw them in concert.... I mean I was almost always broke and if not I was spending it on girlfriends or a wife... or a couple of the clubs that had live bands that just kicked ass..
Kerry Livgren, the blonde guitarist, became a Christian around this time. Many of their songs reflected his spiritual journey. He later formed a Christian band called AD.
They have so many great songs and albums, but if you're looking for great American prog rock you can't go wrong with Point of no Return and Carry On Wayward Son. Classic American prog. You won't be disappointed.
Saw them live with Cheap Trick opening. Amazing evening. Check out "Portrait", "Miracles out of Nowhere" and of course "Carry On, Wayward Son", Prog heaven.
Yeah, I watched a whole documentary on Kansas. It was really interesting and the singer that singing here wasn’t their first choice. He was in the band but they didn’t think he could sing and then he started singing and got the gig.
Another Prog band, maybe the first, The Moody Blues. Check out Ride My Seesaw. Another, while not traditionally accepted as Prog, is ELO. They have strings in their arrangements. Mr. Blue Sky is a great one to start off with. Last but not least, King Crimson. Their first album is a classic. In the Court of the Crimson King, 21st Century Schizoid Man, Starless, Red and Thela Hun Gingeet show the variations of the groups transition over the years.
Kansas had a number of important songs in the 70s, and many great songs that were overlooked. Thank God for the music Kansas gave us, and continues to give us. A great American band that, I believe, never got the respect they deserved. Dig in and see what's there, a deep catalogue.
If you want to hear their true progressive side, give a listen to songs like The Pinnacle, Apercu, Cheyenne Anthem, Miracles Out of Nowhere, Magnum Opus, Closet Chronicles, etc... You can't go wrong with 70s Kansas.
RIP to Robbie Steinhardt who died in July, 2021. He played the violin in this classic song and also sang. Early Kansas would most definitely be classified as Prog Rock. Enjoyed the listen. 😝
One of my good friends here went to school and was good friends with all of the guys from Kansas, they all went to the same school...Kansas is always on my play list, since the 70's...Rock ON!!
Nothing lasts forever and not a minute can your money buy. Life doesn’t last forever. It wasn’t meant to. To me, this is a really great song. It’s okay to let go at the end. Pray your loved ones say to you it’s okay to go. It’s the most difficult but the most loving gift you can give a loved one at the end. Give them permission. Lovely
This song isn't meant to be scary it is meant to make you aware that you need some perspective on life. Nothing lasts forever and everything including us will eventually become dust in the wind. As the verse goes, "all your money won't another minute buy!" We shouldn't be focused so much on money and material things.
Please listen to Kansas - Two for the Show (Live album) - Song for America and/or Paradox and/or Portrait/He knew. Your lives will change yet again. This is Kansas' most commercially pop/rock song - no as progressive as their other stuff. The live album I named is the money!!!
Hey guys, love your reactions! Particularly of Steely Dan and Yes, Genesis. I'm a 54 year old drummer and I'll have to recommend many more records from Kansas. Please try "Magnum Opus" from Leftoverture, "Aperçu" from Kansas (their 1st album), "Nobody's Home" from Point of Know Return, & "The Pinnacle" from Masque..... to name a few! Keep in mind these cuts are vintage and more of what the band was about, pretty hard core progressive rock. Not so much radio play friendly songs like Dust In the Wind or Carry On.
they're definitely from Kansas. And the violin was always prominent in all their songs. Had the opportunity to attend a concert in I think 78. We were treated with a special surprise guest Rick Wakeman of Yes he entered the stage and performed a few songs. There he was, Cape flying. And surrounded by keyboards. And Kansas keyboard player was no slouch either . He danced the entire concert wearing nothing but hot pants and he was also surrounded by keyboards. Oh Yeah.
Yes, as I'm sure others already said, they are from Kansas. And yes, as I'm also sure others already said, you need to hear "Carry On My Wayward Son." My sister used to do lighting for Kerry Livgren, the writer of this song, in the '80s after he went solo.
Saw them live in my college days. Their wives we're seated offstage but in full view. The band was basically Kerry Livgren. This song was a finger picking exercise he did, turned it into a song
This song started as a finger picking exercise and the writer, Kerry Livgren, was told by his wife to add lyrics. He took inspiration from a native American poem and was added at the last minute to the album.
Hey Fellas. Like many great bands of the day, Kansas had a soft side but they could also totally rock out. Also check out "Carry On Wayward Son' and "Point of Know Return". Peace.
"Carry on Wayward Son" is as iconic a 70s rock song as you can come by.
A must listen!
And my favorite of their two most popular songs. Sadly, we lost Robby Steinhardt (violinist) in July '21.
Great song. But c'mon, guys you gotta know that one too. Huge.

Big, big thumbs up on Portrait (He Knew).
Carry on my wayward son what a great tune🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Closet Chronicles
Well said, Joan. Very eloquent description of Kansas. Being a Kansan myself, it's nice to hear how special the band is to you. We revere them here at home. Thank you for explaining how amazing Kansas is...I could not have said it half as well as you did. Peace✌
"ashes to ashes,
dust to dust" 🙌
"All we are is dust in the wind"
People sharing music that they like to others. We need more of that in this world. Great job guys.
Well said!💯
Kansas wrote numerous songs themed around a seeker of mystical wisdom who confronts truths too powerful for the average soul. This is one of those songs. Others include: Child of Innocence, Point of Know Return, Carry on Wayward Son, and Portrait.
Point of no return hell yeah🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
@ E T. Several references to Native American Indians in their some of their songs. Is Steve Walsh from that bloodline ? Always wondered.
@@russellmorgan5611 Good point. I'm not sure. The Cheyenne have roots in that area. And, of course, Kansas wrote a song called Cheyenne Anthem. This makes me cry every time I play it! 😰😭😭😭😭 I am 71 and this song is truth. 😓
Indeed, they were from Kansas. They did a tour with Queen. Brian, May said they sounded like an orchestra live.
All but two of them were from Kansas.
with all your money wont another minute buy..... and nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky.... my favorite lines in the song
Another great one guys!! Gotta check out the video for their huge hit "Carry on my wayward son"..These dudes go to work on that track..Shout out from the old metal head from Detroit..Peace and love..
This song transcends normal music born from a finger picking exercise by Kerry Livgren
More from this classic band please!
I want this played at my funeral.
Wow..., this is music, perfect, perfect. 🎶🎻🎸
Kansas song titled “Icarus Borne on wings of steel” from the 1974 album titled Masque will give you a different side of Kansas 👍
That violin is everything.
They have so much great music, truly one of the most underrated bands of all time and definitely in the PROG genre.

All winners! "Hopelessly Human" is my top choice.
Lamplight Symphony is another epic prog marvel from them.
@@airluc I could have listed at least 20 more...
One of those songs. I’ve heard it so many times, I don’t care if I ever hear it again.
want a musical trip... Kansas- magnum opus... rocks! Yes, violin player. Unique
This song is so beautiful. If you are feeling sad, stressed, listen this song and then you can feel so relaxed, happy, all your pains are gone. I like Kansas is one of my favorite bands and I like the song it is awesome and beautiful
They formed in Topeka. The lead singer is from Missouri. Later them moved to Atlanta after they made it big.
Socrates' favorite Kansas song.
🤟🧙♂🤟
When I hear this now all I see is Wil Ferrel singing this (in the movie Old School), then yelling "You're my boy Blue!!"
Kansas was a garage band in Topeka and Terry Brumm figured they weren't going anywhere. He left to go off to college and an ROTC program becoming an Air Force officer who kicked himself everytime he heard Kansa who made it as big as you get.
The Pinnacle by Kansas is an epic song
You have to listen to Carry on my Wayward Son by Kansas. It is a top 10 of classic rock songs.
Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!!!!
For many many thousands of years in what they call kansas now...peoples lived loved and died....
Rush, Kansas and Boston, I've seen their fans go at each other like Ford Chevy Dodge truck guys do. Kansas has plenty upbeat music I'm sure you guys will love.
This song may let you know more about Progressive Rock. Great dig guys!!
Also check out the Pinnacle. These guys are insanely talented.

I still have this LP./Album.
Carry on Wayward Sun.
Point of Know Return.
"All your money won't another minute buy"
Cheyanne Anthem by Kansas; great song. Icarus - Borne on Wings of Steel’ From: ‘Masque’ is killer , start with those.

They are from Topeka Kansas !! The documentary on their life and career is Amazing 👏
Classic. A sad truth. :)
I remember hearing that lead singer was very religious, and it showed in his lyrics. Again it was something I heard along time ago.
Kansas is great...! "He Knew", "Closet Chronicles", "Hold On" and "Point Of Know Return"
(Steve Walsh is Joe Walsh's half brother)
Snubbed by the RRHOF. Kansas is great progressive rock!
Kansas are the Kings of American prog.
Literally stopped what I was doing….let’s go! ❤️🎥❤️so as a harmony singer- those duo intervals against the rolling arpeggios going on …. that’s some yummy stuff ❤️
Love Kansas ❤
Will Ferrell tries to sing this at Blues funeral in "Old School". You're my boy blue, you're my boy! Hilarious!
Great song ...top notch

"Song for America" Kansas is a mini musical history. Please give a listen!
One of my good friends here went to school and was good friends with all of the guys from Kansas, they all went to the same school...Kansas is always on my play list, since the 70's...Rock ON!!

Excellent choice
My dudes, you have absolutely got to do a reaction for the live version of this, it will blow your mind, guaranteed.
Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. All we are is dust in the wind, dude.
Beautiful song with meaningful and deep lyrics; not creepy. "All your money won't another minute buy." Isn't that the truth!
I gotta admit, I’m a big Kansas fan but this is the one song off their first 6 albums (all of which I love) except this song.
I used to have to go back to Kansas every summer too...🥴🙁🤣
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure has Plato referencing this song. 😆

Good Job fellas One of the sappiest hits of the 70s but worked well at the Dance Palace wink wink
My favorite of Kansas is: Point of No Return. The vocals!
For this child of the 70’s…the talk of Prog is so weird. It was just music to us.
Great choice!
The Wall, & Miracles out of no where are two of their absolutely best tracks.
"Carry On My Wayward Son" next please!!🎶💜
I think "fight fire with fire", "carry on" and "point of no return" are my favorite Kansas songs
Perfect stranger.
The movie “ Old School “ .. “ Your my boy BLUE “ brought this song back on the map for the younger generation 💯
Kansas has a ton of great songs, but the two essential ones are this one and "Carry On Wayward Son".

Black or white, you and me, Brother, “All We are is Dust in the Wind”!
It's funny that you mentioned Topeka cause that's where they were formed.🤘😈
Great song! You guys should check out " Song for America " on the Song for America album. It shows a more progressive side.
The lyrics are so profound
Yes, as I'm sure others already said, they are from Kansas. And yes, as I'm also sure others already said, you need to hear "Carry On My Wayward Son." My sister used to do lighting for Kerry Livgren, the writer of this song, in the '80s after he went solo.
Please check out Kansas' symphonic masterpiece called "Song For America" and enjoy!
Please check out Kansas - Sparks of the tempest. It's Prog Rock Funk. It's fire 🔥

Yes they are all from Kansas.
Who knew Hagrid could play violin??
