    Every year my church has a service 40 days before Easter. It is called Ash Wednesday. The pastor puts dust in every persons forehead. Telling each of us. You are dust. And to dust you shall return. Shante nailed it that way. We will not be on this earth for that long. This song speaks to the mortality of humanity.

    Such a deep message riding on a soft and beautiful melody. Dust in the wind. It's just so easy for us to lose track of what's important in life in the pressure, hurry, and dramas that go on every day. Money can feed you and put a roof over your head. So lack of money can make you miserable. But after you have enough to be a little comfortable, it won't make you happy. It won't buy time. It sure won't buy truth, friendship, or purpose. This is a good song to reflect on. Thank you.

    Kerry Livgren wrote this song about how insignificant we really are . He and Dave Hope became Christians and left the band . Dave Hope became an Anglican pastor. Kerry went on to form 2 Christian bands Proto Caw and AD. I highly recommend you watch what I feel like was Ads best song The Fury. Very hard hitting but powerful message.

    We're all dust in the wind. Let us love and respect all of our brothers and sisters on the planet and Mother Earth as well as long as we continue to draw breath. Love, not hate. Peace, not war. The message remains the same one we "hippies" of the 70s embraced. Love is the only answer. We are ALL the same, and we share this beautiful planet and long for peace. May it come with the present dawning of the age of Aquarius.

    This was never intended to be a song. From an interview with Kerry Livgren, the guitarist and lyricist (on the left in the video):
    It actually has a really interesting, almost humorous history, which is in such contrast to what the song’s about, but it actually, I was trying to improve my skills as an acoustic guitarist. I’ve always been an electric player. And I came up with this, uh, finger exercise, which was basically Dust in the Wind. I was sitting in my music room practicing and my wife kept walking by the room and she’d stick her head in the door and she’d go “You’d better do something with that”. And I said “Honey, this is just an exercise. This is not going anywhere. You know, this is just something to improve my skill.” And she kept bugging me and finally she said “Put some words to that, sing a melody, because I’m telling you, you really got something there.” So I happened to be reading a book of Native American poetry, and I don’t remember which one it was, but it, there was a particular poem I was reading that was alluding to the fact that, you know, our life here, our physical life, is just this brief thing, and also the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible, it says all is vanity, and uh, for some reason that just seemed to go with that melodic line. So I threw it together, literally threw it together, and again came in the last day of rehearsal, and the guys were all there. And you know Kansas is this big, progressive, heavy, rocking band, and I walk in with this acoustic guitar and say “OK, Vicky says, you know my wife says I need to play this for you guys.” And so I sit down and I played the song for them on the acoustic guitar, and I sang it, which if anything was going to kill the song, that would do it, and I looked up when I was done and the guys were all, just kind of had this blank look on their faces and they said “Where has that been?” I said, “What do you mean? You liked that thing?” And they said “Absolutely - we gotta do this.” And I literally wrote the string arrangement in a motel room down the road from the studio, ‘cause I was trying to figure a way to include the violin in the song, and we were doing a session that afternoon, and I just wrote the string lines in a motel room in Nashville.

    To me this song takes everyone down a peg or two. We are "just a drop of water in an endless sea" and "all we are is dust in the wind". And even if you are rich, "and all your money won't another minute buy". It seems to say that "you ain't all that" so don't be gettin' all high and mighty because regardless of who you are, you're still just dust in the wind.

    Its really a reality check. The instruments were vocal because of it's perfect timing. Even my mom who was a Catholic loved this song. We all know the body breaks down to dust. However, according to her faith, her spirit is in heaven not the body. Still, regardless of what one thinks of the afterlife, we all know the body breaks down and returns to the earth.

    What's great about this song is, no matter your culture, color or religious belief.., it moves something inside you and makes you realize the harsh truth about life. We are all just waiting to become a memory. A short time to most and maybe into the next generation by our immediate family. In the big picture of humanity though, we are all waiting to be forgotten.

    People, my lovely hearted friends, this is about nothing, not one single penny can stop the hands of time. Live your best life, because today could be any of our last day. There's no time for pain, hate, "FEAR" this is the big and ugly one right here!!Fear is among the worst of all emotions. Fear stops us from taking that leap of faith and finding what might be the life changing gift of your life. Fear keeps us in what's familiar and safe. If we never pull our roots up from the ground, I promise your life will always be the same, routine day in and day out..😢 Fear has robbed me of so many dreams, I fulfilled some of those dreams, but what I was gifted to do, was in my mind only a pipe dream. Growing up around negativity, not necessarily within my home, but when those o chose to be around, low self esteem, no pride, or confidence in my ability to be more than what my self worth was. Dust in the Wind, here today, gone tomorrow, make your mark, enjoy the ride. Love you two beautiful people! You have great words of wisdom and insight, and I for one love it!!!❤❤❤

    This song shows us how foolish it is to be greedy and materialistic as a mortal. No matter how much wealth we achieve or how many skyscrapers we build, when our time is up, all our money wont another minute buy. At the end of the game, both the king and the pawn go back into the same box.

  • @josephreynolds4899
    @josephreynolds4899 Před 7 měsíci

    It’s basically a song about your mortality, and that nothing lasts forever. Everything on this earth that’s lived , will eventually die and decompose back into the earth from which it came ashes to ashes and dust to dust, and it don’t matter how much money you have. If you noticed the last line of the song in the final verse, says all your money won’t another minute buy…when your time is up, no matter how rich you are, you can’t cheat death
