    I cant believe they just simply cover the middle seat and call it business class... You get better "premium seats" on budget airlines down here in south east asia

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety +9

      I can't argue with you. It's certainly rather poor. I understand that many of the European airlines use economy seats for their short haul business class, but surely they could make up for it with better food/drink and more flight attendants?

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 Před 6 lety +1

      Most of the middle eastern and Asian airlines are government sponsored meaning they get special deals. European airlines do not get any of this and it is also illegal for governments to do so.
      In the long term most of these new airlines that are offering amazing packages will not actually be able to sustain them and then there is the risk that European airlines may actually throw a stroppy and force the EU to take action on this.

      It does seem as if the only value added perks of flying Club Europe over Euro Traveller on BA are a) complementary check-in bags, b) lounge access, c) complementary food, d) priority check-in, security and boarding, and e) no passenger in the middle seat. Don't get me wrong, those perks are cool, but is it worth at least £250 if the seat isn't up to par?

    • @no-bn7xv
      @no-bn7xv Před 5 lety

      True, but we're not just going to fly on over to Asia just to fly back up again!

    • @osx86x
      @osx86x Před 4 lety

      @@jmlim7095 yes and no - Club X is euphemism term for 'Business Class' in BA speak, so they can get away with inventing a alternative hard product that they can't be sued or compared against business. Is it worth it? Yes for Tier Points, and if it means I don't have to deal with annoying passengers. Business class travel in EU is non-existent and the same applies with the service.

    I'm due to fly out tomorrow to Cyrpus on Club Europe on a flight that is 4 hours and 45 minutes!!! I can't beleive the type of chair they have for this journey. When I shopped for other business class products they were not much different. When I was younger we got bumped up to business class with Cyprus Airways. The seats were amazing! I can only desribe them as lazy boy reclinding seats spaced out in a private cabin, similar to BA first class. You had great privacy and could exit without out disturbing anyone. It also had a TV multimedia system that folded out of the arm rest as well as a table for your food. It was the most comfortable 4 hour flight I've ever had and if anything I would have branded it a short hall first class, comparing it to my long haul first class trips. Unfortunately, the airline went bust as part of EU terms the Cyprus goverment were not allowed to subsidise the airline anymore. Ashame you can't get this level of product again on short hall.

  • @TheVaughan5
    @TheVaughan5 Před 6 lety +3

    I only use B.A. for short haul because I like using T5 at LHR - their business class on European flights is really more like a Premium Economy. This airline has come a long way down in the past 20 years but what can you expect when it's CEO used to be in charge of a budget carrier.

      Hi William, I agree that it's not a great product although it's much cheaper than what we pay for domestic business class in Australia. It's was probably double the price in the UK while Qantas/VA domestic business is probably 4-5 times as expensive.

      Struth I wouldn't pay for business. Do you hold status with any One World airlines? As I'm gold with Qantas, I already get access to the lounge and priority boarding/checkin in so the only benefit I got was the food (yay...) and no one sitting next to me. It certainly wouldn't be worth it if you were paying.

    • @josefmprable
      @josefmprable Před 6 lety +2

      Paul Stewart I think I had a Qantas card (can't remember what status) which has expired, I haven't travelled since 2010, so I'll probably sign up for Qantas again because BA is a partner of Qantas.

    Unfortunately, all the airlines that operate these European routes have this as a standard for Business class. Its the rest of the services that make up for the cost. Priority check-in counter, priority baggage arrival, fast track security (where available), priority boarding and dis-embarking, Lounge access at all airports, better food, no extra cost for drinks, extra baggage allowance. Less people sharing the toilets. Some airlines have extra leg room on seats. And tickets cost about £200 extra return.

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety

      Thanks John. Yep it's a sorry state really. I don't want to be too hard on the British as they've obviously done many great achievements (ie. Concorde) but they've really lost their way. My other interest is cars and I have a soft spot for British cars (neighbour had a 1995 XJ6 Sport and it was beautiful) but it wasn't until the Germans (BMW) and Americans (Ford) bought them that they started making decent reliable cars. And the current range of fantastic Jags are funded by the Indians. It's a sad state of affairs really. As equally sad as here in Australia where our last car manufacturer (Holden), closed down last week, but we digress... :)

      I suspect that most club europe tickets are sold due to: 1) connections from long-haul international business class, 2) work policies where business class is a travel perk and 3) people who have too much money. What I do not get with any of the European Business Class airlines, is why do they have the middle seat at all in their supposed "refurbished" Business Class seats?. It is not refurbished is it, it is just economy, just with the middle seat out of service.
    TAP Portugal, KLM, all of them are the same, and none offer any entertainment onboard, unlike in Canada, USA, Latin America.
    In reality, the European airlines are quite substantially behind.
    Avianca I traveled as a connection flight in Brazil, although I had a Business Class ticket, the internal connection flight in Brazil was all economy on Avianca. Their economy is better than any European Business Class, they also have back seat entertainment and more leg-room. Go figure that one out.
    Europe is behind regarding Business Class flights. The only reason I would book Business Class European flight would be for fast check in and fast security, nothing else, because you get nothing else over Economy Class in Europe.

    Austrian Airlines A320! Worst airline I’ve ever flown with.....and I’ve flown with a few. We really don’t realise how good we have it with Qantas and Virgin Australia.

      Hi Tim, I'm yet to fly with Austrian although I'll keep that in mind. I totally agree that we're lucky with QF and VA although they're considerably more expensive.

      Paul, I cannot understand how a guy who ran 2 no trills airlines in Spain, can go on to run a full service airline. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact, that Iberia are now part of the One World Alliance.

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah it seems like an odd decision. Look, I can understand that BA are probably very inefficient generally and they need to cut costs to maintain the pensions they have to pay...etc. Having said that, cutting the service sooo much is just destroying their reputation especially at a time when there's so much competition from the ME3 and now the Asian carriers. Interesting times ahead...

    • @robertmansfield2856
      @robertmansfield2856 Před 6 lety +1

      I agree. There is only so much you can cut back on, before passengers desert the airline, and there are plenty of other European Airlines, that are offering the type of service passengers want. Also, BA cannot afford to be losing their BC passengers. I know a couple of business people, who regularly fly to Frankfurt, and they deserted BA ages ago in favour of Lufthansa.

    • @PaulStewartAviation
      @PaulStewartAviation  Před 6 lety +1

      Exactly. BC and F pax are where the money is made and while BA do have a loyal group of supporters (most of whom are probably forced to fly BA due to their corporate policy), they'll change with time...

      In BA's defence, these crappy seats are the norm for intra-Europe business class although I'd still agree that overall, it's a poor product. I certainly wouldn't pay for it and all of my Club Europe flights have been attached onto long-haul business flights on 787s and 777s.

      I completely agree, although in BA's defence, their flight was double the length of MEL-OOL and the ticket was probably one-third to one-quarter of the price. There's no doubt that Qantas and Virgin domestic business class offer a superior product to the short-haul business and first products in Europe and North America, but the Aussie airlines are considerably more expensive. :)

      It is a bit crap, but it's not much more expensive than economy class. Unlike in Australia (where I'm guessing you're from?) where business is often 2 or 3 times more exxy (as you've said), club europe is usually only around 3-50% more expensive, and for good reason.
