i will still never forgive Spotify for making dream smp a genre
had to call out the dream fans
Literally. Got it once as my top genre. Don’t even listen/watch people in the dream smp, just British indie lol
To be fair, quite a few DSMP songs go pretty hard.
I’m blaming Spotify for “baddiecore”
corpse and mitski being put in the same genre should be a crime
losing it at Adventure Time being considered pov: indie
My belief on what pov: indie could be. It could be a genre where big bands try to sound like they're indie
Unironic Ironic Indie music
my top artist was Mac Demarco (and some other indie artists) and I got pov indie
i think its funny that looking on the "list" feature there are some bands that ONLY have the genre "pov: indie" that, again, are not indie
like AJRs ONNLY genre is "pov: indie"
POV: the guy who listens to “indie” is telling you about all the underground bands he listens to
I think pov: indie is a goofy genre name, but at least it's goofy in a funny way. Dream SMP as a genre name has me bubbling with rage. It's like if I started making music and then spotify noticed that my username on several platforms is a Stormlight Archive reference, and based on that decided "all music similar to this is now called Surgebinder-core"
this is not how genres fucking work. I'm sorry but if me and a ton of other people listen to depressive suicidal black metal and beethoven's moonlight sonata, both of these music are sad and spotify might call them "sadcore" or whatever, but that does not make them belong to the same genre.
A genre isn't "algorithmically defined by the people who listen to it", that's pure bullshit. It's literally just killing music classification and history (most music genres are indeed history-related).
nah thats sadcore my dude
Software developer. Had a guest lecturer at Uni who at the time were one of the main machinelearning developers at Spotify.
Spotify learns from user patterns. What you found in the article is true, but he also said one thing during the several classes he held. Is that playlisting is not only huge for artists. It’s huge for Spotify also. In the case of ”POV Indie” it might be that it’s simply the name of, or in the description of several playlists which have a huge amounts of followers. He used Brostep, Colour bass and Beatleesque as examples. It makes way more sense when it’s partly the users that ”creates” these new genres.
So in theory if we want to do a huge RickRoll, your fanbase should start creating playlists where they use ”Blustre-core” in the name of description of the playlist
I think really the "POV Indie" is for songs that blew up on tiktok. thats why its POV cuz thats a thing people said in tiktok. The artists arent indie at all though, i wish theyd just call it Tiktok music idec. Indie already has a meaning and this isnt it.
I prefer the term bedroom [insert genre]. Kinda fits more the home made vibe for me
The other definition of pov indie is something like where they sing like 'from their point of view', which makes sense for the artists I listen to I think.
There’s only a few artists who dare to sing from their point of view
I think it’s pop music that brands itself as indie. Or very pop-ified indie
KIKUO MENTIONED🍾🍾🍾
MY FAVORITE KIKUO SONG IS HAPPY SYNTHESIZER ❤️❤️❤️
My spotify was pov: indie and I was listening to joji, vansire, Mac demarco and that's about it
FELLOW VANSIRE LISTENER 💪💪💪
@@ashtreedraws WASGUD 🫡
My last spotify wrapped said I listened to 6 genres:
Rock
And 5 different indies
So britpop, 70’s punk, pop-punk, like 3 different metal types, british indie rock and grunge don’t exist anymore according to it
that's the most vague name 😩
it made every wrapped kinda look alike
just discovered your channel because i was wondering what pov: indie was too, but i really like your style!
10/10 will return
awesome, glad ya liked the video!
Kind of late to the topic, but in my opinion "pov: indie" are songs that sound indie but they don't necessarily have to be underground/small artists, many of the songs listed under pov: indie sound a bit indie even though it can be from very successful artists. Tame Impala for example.
My estimated guess would be that it’s any artist that could be considered indie and have been trending on TikTok at any time, rather than classified as a new genre
This is the actual answer I think
Spotify "genres" are so weird... but it is what it is. At the end of the day, what they say I listen to doesn't really affect me, I know who I am and what I'm about.
Anyway, I discovered you on my FYP on TikTok and I really like your series where you listen to all the different music genres and give your opinions and rate them! Keep up the great content, man!
To me it kind of sounds like POV: indie is saying that people who listen to it are the type to say that they found a cool indie artist and then proceed to play the most well known artist of all time
My wrapped considered will wood pov indie
if they add a random new metal genre to spotify at any point i wouldnt notice because our genre list is so crazy
The funniest thing is that spotify started making intimate, sensual and freaky playlists based on your listening patterns
Apparently I listen to a ton of pov:indie, even my favorite band is pov:indie. Even though they're signed to Republic. I thought indie had the simplest definition, y'know of not having a label but I suppose I assumed too much. Since even TØP and their massive success is indie I guess.
I stopped using Spotify last year, so I’m a little sad I didn’t get to see what strange genres I would’ve gotten and now I’m a little disappointed🥺
omg I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME mentioned
i guess it's just commercial pop/ soft rock that pulls some influences/aesthetics from stuff like bedroom pop
I think pov: indie prolly means popular "indie" music
I got a suggestion for something called “flannel” I get that that’s grunge but that’s so cringe
pls make a video about indie types cuz i thought that was my genre but now i’m confused lol
My top was pov indie and now I’m more confused
Bro what’s up with the other CZcams searches???
Ive always said i listen to indie but i honestly have no idea what it would even be called
I personally love spotify. Their algorithm has worked for me too Blustre!
BEARS IN TREES MENTION
Gyatt is a genre on spotify
do y'all consider pov: indie a real genre??
No. People who’ve seen my Spotify wrapped now have less of an idea about the music I listen to. It’s so damn vague. As well as indie in general.
no
Why does it say that under "Other's searched for" at 1:32
i wish furry wasn't a genre on spotify i don't wanna be exposed every wrap
I also got POV indie 😂😅
Maybe they’re just calling out people who only listen to tiktok popular stuff lmao
The jarvisian commentary community grows
lmaoo love jarvis
i think at this point, people are just calling any sad or edgy pop indie, so their music taste sounds more interesting than it is. and for some reason emo genres have gotten wrapped into it?
I think they just spammed random artists with over 250k monthly listeners and hoped for the best for pov: indie.
I listen to tally hall, will wood and the tapeworms etc, and its crazy how i got the exact same genre as someone who listens to taylor swift and lana del ray. Like how???
Spotify has multiple flaws already. A couple months ago my ad breaks went from 2 or 1 ads per ad break, TO 4 ADS THAT ARE 30 SECONDS THAT JUST ADD MORE ADS WHEN YOU PRESS THE SKIP BUTTON AFTER THE 5 SECONDS. And another problem, EVERYTIME YOU MANUALLY PRESS ON A SONG YOU GET A 30 SECOND UNSKIPPABLE AD, THEN RIGHT AFTER THAT YOU GET ANOTHER 15 SECOND AD. This really frustrated me because usually i listen to music while working with my phone far away, so i can’t just reset the app and it gets rid of the ad. I have to sit through 4 ads after only 2, 2 minute songs.
Spotify already has made a massive amount of money already from the ad breaks and spotify premium users. I don’t understand why they need to make the app literally unusable for non spotify premium users.
It’s frustrating me so much I’m thinking about getting youtube premium so i can listen to music on youtube ad free, or any other alternative app. I’m not giving any more money to spotify in 2024.
i feel like the genre was somewhat satirical to the fact that everyone calls so much music indie so they put basic ass cringy bands in there and said “pov: when you’re indie 🙈🫨”
good video tho!
I think it's just music/bands that's became popular thanks to tiktok or Instagram, and they didn't know what to call it
i think pov: indie is just artists that get used in pov tiktoks
pov: Indi isn't new, I acutely got it last year in my Spotify wrapped.
Wait, you're the "I don't wanna be genrephobic." guy.
Yeah, I think POV: Indie is a stupid term for the indie genre.
i listen to cg5... i got pov: indie....wtf
your first crime is listening to cg5
I mean there’s pornogrind, baddiecore (aka cum metal), slamming brutal deathcore, thall…
CUM METAL? IN MY GENRE? UNREAL. GET IT OUT.
WHY IS KIKUO CONSIDERED TO BE INDIE?!? 😭😭
I mean yeah he’s independent but if you listen to his music it doesn’t sound like indie at all why is he here
Atleast name it TikTok pop or something
its just tiktok music
It just seems to me pov indie is music for people who think they have unique, alternative taste
