The good old Grateful Dead the best American band in my opinion.

Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) also does a great cover of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"....(Jerry Garcia Band)

I'm not a big Greatful Dead fan but I enjoyed this live performance and I agree with the folk/early rock/hippy music sound. I know they fit in very well with the Woodstock crowd back in the day with the love, peace and partaking in some local party favors 😉 must have been fun...lol...I would like to see more...🤗💕 thanks for the request Elisabeth 😊❤

The Grateful Dead didn't always play well but when they got in the pocket it was nothing short of magic.❤

Great example of the Grateful Dead “bounce”. They make you move.

Robert Hunter was a great songwriter and was often referred to as the non-performing member of the band. A poet in his own right, he was known for his definitive translation of the Austrian poet Rainer Maria Wilke's poems into English. Dylan loved him and, in fact, Hunter wrote a song or two for Dylan which, if you think about it, is pretty amazing to have Dylan sing one of your songs. You are so right when you point out that it's the songwriting that separates the GD from just about all other bands.

Tremendous song writing in the Grateful Dead.

Robert Hunter wrote many of their songs. One of the best poets of the century. He was the great, great, great grandson of Robert Burns. (I think I have enough greats in there)

Another great Hunter/Garcia song - and a really nice version. They did it quite funky in the latter part of the 70s.

They actually were pretty progressive in the 60s, and some of their albums in the 70s were kind of progressive as well.

check out Terrapin Station from the album of the same name. Yet another sound from the Grateful Dead.

Nooooo. It is horrible what they did to such a great song by adding the orchestral part at the end. Totally without the band's knowledge or consent.

This is actually one of the saddest and most tragic songs, if you listen to the lyrics.

One of my buddies had BRNEYEWN as his license plate, good thing they allowed eight letters. I had to consult "The Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics" to be sure but the way it is spelled out there sums it up. The title was copywrited as "Brown Eyed Woman", but Robert Hunter, who wrote the song, intended it to be "Brown Eyed Women", the way Jerry Garcia really sings it. This is a classic case of a typographical error. Any way you spell it, it is still a great song.

They cover a lot of ground - very rootsy and totally Americana (listen to the albums Workingmans Dead and American Beauty) - but also have serious jazz, funky, blues, rock n roll, acid rock, psychedelia etc - worth gong down the rabbit hole.

The crazy thing about the dead rabbit hole is you can’t stop. Just when you think you can’t get anymore into them, you fall deeper down the hole. Thousands of hours and just can’t get enough

  • @thesecretjewishspacelaser9959

You haven’t dropped very far down the rabbit hole yet. Try China/Rider from 7/17/89 for the next step down.

If you want the more “progressive” side of the Dead check out “Darkstar” it’s their most psychedelic jam vehicle and this version specifically is one of the best of all time. Pro shot footage as well. czcams.com/video/6JukZBGgv8I/video.htmlsi=zDB04KQ6QsoFEoti

I've resubscribed now that you've finally started to pay attention to Grateful Dead. I left you a bunch of links after your first reviews, but you never seem to come back to read comments after you post reactions.
