the 1.2 is more than 10 times more expensive than 1.8 so yeah, STM 1.8 has better price vs quality value. I have both too. this location is not where the 1.2 RF shines over the 1.8 sibling :)

Very nice moody video. The 50mm f1.2 is sharper and has nicer bokeh, but the f1.8 ist great, too.
It would be interesting to see both lenses @f1.8 to compare side by side.

I really like my RF 50mm 1.2 L. I've grown out of the shoot bokeh (F1.2-1.4) all the time. I still love the consistency of colors, rendering, sharpness, etc. One thing I really didn't like when I was trying the RF 50mm 1.8 is when I shot into the light at all, it got mushy. It also has way more C.A. too. The video does show for sure that you don't "need" the 1.2 to shoot portraits.

Could you please upload DropBox folder with examples for us just like you did in "CANON 50mm RF 1.8 vs EF 1.2" video? Thanks! 🖤

Great video dude, i have the RF 50mm 1.8, although there is no inbody stabilisation, its a great nifty fifty. The RF 50mm 1.2 i think is a niche lens if you’re after just that little more shallow depth of field and bokeh, its a faster lens as well due to the aperture so something to take into consideration of as well, its the little things that add up 😊

Thanks for the comparison. This makes me more comfortable to choose the 85 f1.2 over the 50 f1.2. I have 2 options, 85 f1.2 with 50 f1.8 or 50 f1.2 with 85 f2. The 50 f1.8 holds its own against the 1.2. And this video makes me feel that the f1.2 is not worth $2000 more than the f1.8. Thanks. Nice video

It all depends on thousands of factors. If it's for professional use where you're going to make money and you're always shooting in a hostile environment, then it will have to be everything from the L line.
If it's for hobbyists and you want a beautiful rendering with beautiful Bokeh and sharpness, it's better to go for Sony and buy a Sigma 105mm f1. 4. There is this lens for Canon, but you will have to use it with an adapter. I don't think it's advisable.
I have a Canon R6II + RF 50mm f1.8. Use for hobby like point and shoot. But I really want the Sigma 105mm f1.4. I should probably exchange my Canon R6II for a Sony just to use the Sigma 105mm f1.4 without adapter.

Great comparison. It's obvious that even 1.8 versions can do great things in the right hands. I wish they release the RF 35 1.8, 50 1.8 and 85 2.0 mark II with slight improvement (or 1.4 version). For non-bokeh guys, 1.2 is unnecessary.

Great comparison, thanks for sharing the side-by-sides! Between these two 50mm lenses, which did you enjoy using the most Zach?

Same question. On my iPad the difference is sometimes to see, but price difference hardly seems justifiable imo. And the 1.8 is also much lighter and seems more comfortable to use as carry day to day lens.

    I currently have 3 lenses in my fleet. These are Canon EF 24mm f 1.4, Canon EF 50mm f1.2, Canon EF 135mm f2.0 and Canon RF 50mm f 1.8.
For artistic tasks I take the first 3, and for walking RF))))) since it is light and compact))))

Thanks for the greate video. For me the most annoying part is the STM is too noisy and the vibration is very noticeable🥲. I know it is a 300$ lens but still...

If you‘re like me and trying to justify upgrading from 1.8 to 1.2: just buy some red 1mm tape and put it on your 1.8 lens. I just saved you 2000€, you‘re welcome!

Should i sell my rf 50 1.2? Just looking at this video makes me wonder if I made the right choice of getting this lens.

  • @matstefanic

I wish for a smaller, good quality RF 50mm (1.4 would be enough), the 1.2 is too big for me to schlepp around :(

  • @blazeboy777
    @blazeboy777 Před 9 měsíci +1

while both look amazing as you did your part right... what rf50mm 1.2 can do ... simply 1.8 cannot. It's like watching high end cinema lens vs film photography. Amazing
