My new 49" productivity monitor replacing my 2x 27 inch monitors
What do you think?
QUESTION: When in PBP/PIP mode, are both inputs able to do 144 Hz separately? On the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9, in single display mode (5120x1440), it can do 240 Hz, but when split in PBP mode, both 2560x1440 sides can only do a max of 120 Hz. I'm just wondering if this LG has the same limitation.
@@CheeseballNinja its the same on the LG
Can you notice the pixels on the screen and is it worth it for work?
@@Milkybar882 no you can't notice the pixel and its perfect to work off I use for that everyday
@@GeekStreet thank you, can you get it in the uk?
I appreciate your input on this ultrawide monitor. I've been pondering replacing my 3x27" setup with this to remove the bezels from the equation as you mentioned. I, too, have a Mac and PC, so seeing the seamless use of the two with a single keyboard, mouse, and display really makes this an easy choice.
Ultrawide. Exactly the review I was looking for; helped me finalize the decision. Pressing "order" now :)
Thanks, good to hear the review helped.
Thank you for the thorough review! Definitely picking this up tonight!
Good to hear the review helped!
Just bought thanks to your review, excellent job and covering so many details of this Ultrawide. I appreciated the built-in KVM.
Great to hear the review helped!
Great review. I currently have a Dell with KVM but the one first world problem I have is in when you display both sources you still have to switch the monitor to let the KVM switch to use the single monitor and keyboard. When you go from left in your example (mac or pc) to the right it doesn't switch that on the fly correct? This is nirvana state for me or I'm doing something wrong lol...
@@BobFosterFCSI You may want to try Microsoft's Mouse Without Borders. No need to toggle a switch, it connects to both of your setups (mine is a PC and a laptop) through wifi and switches inputs based on your mouse position on the edges of the screen.
Thank you so much.. it was very informative.

Hey man! Thanks for the video and the short, your short literally made me start looking into this monitor and I finally got one!
Quick question tho, could you please explain the LG software you mentioned? Also how did you move the mouse in both systems? I’ve been scrolling through the comments but still having difficulty. Can’t find a tutorial.
Love the review, talked me into picking it up. I think it's going to be a life changer for my work laptop, personal gaming pc, and xbox. I can't wait to try it out for a full day of work and I'm hardly ever excited for that. Now to find the final accessories to finish the setup.

@@GeekStreet Will do!
how did it go?
@@teekanne15 It's pretty awesome but I don't know if I would always suggest it. I kind of use it in picture by picture mode a lot to either have 2 monitors of one computer or 1 computer 1 xbox. It's a cleaner setup than 2 monitors but if you really just want to focus one thing I think something smaller is a better bet. Like a 32, 38 UW or something like that.
Beautiful

Super cool for my 360 video editing
🥳
Just got this monitor! Loving it so far. I feel like one thing that keeps getting overlooked in comparison to other monitors is that this one has HDMI 2.1. So it will work with PS5 and XSX with all the graphical bells and whistles. And given that you can plug your Steam Deck straight into this thing(thanks to the USB C) without a dock or anything, this was the top option for a gamer like me(PC, Steam Deck, and PS5 user, who loves ultrawide).
It's HDMI 2.0. What's not clear; how is it possible to be able to select 10 bit color on a monitor that supports only 8 bit color and no FRC?
@@rolandopera7273 I actually do get 2.1 and I have the results(HFR works in God of War Ragnarok for instance, which is only supposed to work with HDMI 2.1...it also passes the 120hz compatibility check in the PS5 settings) to show for it. It even says 2.1 on the display settings page under input version. Which monitors do and do not have 2.1 is a little confusing, with even LG reps themselves seeming unclear about it at times.
Is there an app or something that can definitively show HDMI specs? Who knows lol
Does it still have that stretched out look using PS5 on this monitor with the 2.1?
@@alexe727 HDMI 2.1 doesn't change the ratio. It's the PS5 the one that doesn't support it. So, I guess that yes, you'll still have that stretched out look unless you play with big black bars.
Price??

Ultrawide!
Thanks for presentation. Looks like a quite decent hulk of a monitor.
Now, I do have to say something: Most monitors don't have 1ms response time anyway. 5ms is really good realistic figure already, with dedicated gaming monitors generally not being much faster than that, except OLED's.
I really dislike that "1ms Response Time" marketing figure people throw around, when they're just actually talking about (G2G) response time, instead of proper response time across the color space.
It would be good for all monitor reviewers to just get a colorimeter and couple other tools, and just go ahead and measure the real response times, color gamut and some other things. It's pretty easy to do these days, because both software and hardware to do that exists.
How do you zoom in? I can’t seem to figure it out when browsing the internet. Thanks
@GeekStreet Hello, Amazing review ! You made me buy it ! I just have a question ? How would you do to have the split screen in 2 for working/productivity but then when you run a PC game have it on 1 screen only ?
Good to hear the video helped. The option is called Picture By Picture you can get to it is the menu system.
Ultrawide... Good video Thanks

have you succeed using the side USB as usb Hub with mac? mine wont work.
currently im using with m2 through USB C to C
How does the sound work if i have two pcs? Everything needs to plugged in to the monitor and its going throu the kvm? Any delays ?
thanks for the great video!
Is it possible to use the PIB/PBP even with one HDMI and one DP input? How many hz are still possible if HDMI is involved?
Yes thats possible and you'll get 120hz on each device
Which extended mouse pad are you using in this review?
I have two of these stacked on top of each other, I am looking for a docking station that will support these two, I have Mac books pro (2021) and A Razer 17 inch any suggestions
Wow what a beast of a monitor!!
💯
What's the difference with the 49WL95C other than 144Hz?
WOW!!!
Ultrawide. I bought this monitor this week and while Amazon and others were all charging £1249-1299, I managed to get it on ebuyer for £1,007 including delivery so great value. Only set the monitor up yesterday but it is seriously impressive and has wowed people I have shown it to. I will be using it as a productivity device for office work to replace 2 x 24" monitors and can already see that this is a massive step forward. I like the fact that the curve is not a big one like other alternatives and it fits nicely on my desk taking up 32cm of dpth (would be about 28cm if I didnt have a wall behind the desk as the back of the stand touches that). I do have a deep desk at 75cm though and that means my eyes are about 70 cm from the screen which is about right. It might be a tad uncomfortable on the eyes if I had a less deep desk and had to sit closer to the screen. Highly recommended if you have the space
It really is an awesome monitor, I'm still using it and absolutely love it.
08:07 If they had a 3-pane Picture By Picture setting that centred a 16:9 area, then split the second 16:9 input half left and half right, this would be the *ideal* 2-PC streaming monitor... Gaming in the middle, chat on the left, discord on the right -- all on one screen and not having to turn? Beautiful. I can dream... P.S. Ultrawide ;)
No that would be cool!
They do its called windows powertoys fancy zones. I have it for my Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo, literally cannot go back to anything else now.
nice video, congratulations. can you tell me kindly what is the difference between this model and the LG 49WQ95X-W.AEU??? thank you very much
Thanks from what I recall the AEU is discontinued
Phenomenal review. What graphics card are you driving that monsta with? That beast could fit on my desk, no probs, but $1 large for a monitor???
Thanks! In the review I was using an RTX 3090 but I've also tested with my GTX 1660 and so issues there.
@4:23 Where did you get that YT subscriber counter?
Great video. Wh at is the realize year of this monitor? I have seen a number of variants such as WY, .AUS, W. Thanks in advance.
The year it came out was 2022 and the model to look for is 49WQ95C-W
Great video. Barely even 100ppi though - not sure I'd consider that a particularly sharp or detailed monitor.
Whats the refresh rate in dual 27" mode?
The first review that includes dimensions, such important information has been missed by others. Ultrawide
❤️
Great video! how would you say this compares to the LG 40" ultrawide montior? I would use this monitor for editing.
Thanks, it gives a massive working area letting you see more of the timeline which is the biggest benefit over the 40"
Hi, which monitor arm was that at 2:11 ? i really don't want to spend close to 300€ for the Ergotron. Great video by the way
It's this one, but honestly not ideal for this size of screen amzn.to/3NUpOLI
Great video. Does the monitor support USB C as source for both splits when splitting it in two monitors? Since USB C can support multiple monitors.
Thanks, No from what I found it was just for a single source.
Is this better than the Odyssey G9?
Ultrawide: I've ordered one 😍
Ultrawide. Looking forward to see the price of this in Spain. It looks like the perfect solution for combining work laptop and personal gaming PC
❤️
Do you have any idea what the response times are for this monitor when it is set to its faster response time modes(fast, faster)? People say you shouldn't set it to 'faster' for instance because it can cause 'inverse ghosting', or lack of colors, but I haven't noticed anything like that. I've even used a couple monitor testing sites. It's just responsive and fluid in a way that felt obviously different to me when set to 'faster.' I know they advertise 5ms for this monitor but is that for the 'normal' setting?
On LG's site it lists the response time as 5ms(GtG at Faster). So what is the speed of GtG then? 1ms?
Interesting question. Up!!
Nice, I also considered a similar solution, but I would feel limited with the 1440 vertical pixels. I use my setup mostly for programming, web design. etc. And I badly need the vertical space, code is written in the vertical dimension.
I have a 48 inch LG OLED TV 4096x2160 as my main monitor in the center, and two 27 inch 1440x2560 monitors pivoted to portrait on both sides (a handpicked them to be exactly the same height in portrait as my main monitor and to be pivotable in both directions) so I have almost the double of vertical pixels as you, and still a more than a meter of continuous surface in the middle with 4096 pixels wide. and 2x1440 extra on the sides with bezels of 2mm. The OLED's contrast, deep blacks still amaze me after two years.
The Herman Miller Aeron is a must, I have mine since 5-6 years, incomparable to any other chair.
Yeah the lack of vertical real estate ends up killing your workflow. Once you use a 38" 3849x1600p 21:9 UW you can't go back to 1440p anymore - extra width not only looks ridiculous when it's constrained but it's counterproductive. Gotta wait for 5k2k OLED UWDs or 8k2k w/DP2.1 OLED.
4:36 Dream Monitor. I hate scrolling/scrubbing through my long @$$ timeline.
Great review and I've got an Ultrawide question. Do you know of anyone running twin monitors (I currently run 6 monitors between 2 computers and I like the idea of moving to 2 49's from a cleanliness and functionality standpoint.
Thanks, I don’t know personally, but would be an interesting one to hear about.
So the vertical height equals a 27” monitor?
I’m so happy for my 32” purchase because of the extra height. Err as well as for the extra horizontal space.
Thank you for this video. what is the better OS for this monitor for producivty and multi tasking? mac or windows?
If really depends on what your doing, I've used Windows for many years now but am using the mac more for video editing and other creative work I'm doing and generally it works really well, but just takes time getting used to it. Hope that sort of helps.
@@GeekStreet does the lg software work well on mac? thanks geek street
ULTRAWIDE has its perks which you showed. I however ended up switching back to thin bezel displays. First off, at 1440, this is not a 5k display. It would have to be 2880px to be 5k. It is simply an ultrawide 1440px display. I went back to 27" 2560x1440 for several reasons. 1) shake! I found the ultrawide displays too susceptible to table shake. 2) fiddling with windows and palates. It was never ending. Sure, in 1-window contained apps like you showed, no problem. But I work in programs like Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. I was always fighting with the image area of what I was working on and the overlap with palettes with a Single Wide Display. With individual monitors, that is not he case. I make my image area full 1-screen, my palates are on anther no overlap..and I have a third usually for manuscript notes or my browser. It is just so much easier to container/isolate your windows and apps side by side with independent displays.. And, 3) most importantly...my THREE Dell 2560x1440 27" displays were $199/ea on sale. Delivered for under $600 with my AMEX discount. Now, I know they are not the same in terms of features and specs...but none of that justified spending an extra $1000. These displays tilt, go up and down and even rotate which is nice when I am working on vertical images. Plus, their weight distribution on their stands is so well matched...no shake.
The ultrawides are great for a gamer who does occasional work. But for a Worker...give me 2 or better yet 3 displays.
Correct, using the horizontal BS pixel count method is ridiculous, due to a wide aspect ratio like this completely misrepresenting what 5K is from an expected DPI perspective, this is just very wide 1440P
Question: Did you connect your mouse and keyboard to the monitor itself? I've connected both the USB ports but nothing, and cant find anything online to help.
Yes I did, but you need you connect your PC via the Type-C or the USB B port
Is there any update to this monitor?
I dont game but that is awesome. May have to sell my LG 34" ultrawide.
Great Video! I'm thinking about getting this monitor myself especially due to its kvm switch but I had questions on how it works. From the video you said that your mac connects via type c and your pc connects via usb b to usb a. I'm not familiar with usb b cables and was wondering why you did that instead of connecting via display port or is the usb b to usb a an additional connection to the display port for the pc. If the display port isn't involved does the usb b to a connection still able to get 144hz at 1440p?
The usb a to usb b is just for the PC to gain access to the USB hub in the monitor and I'm using a displayport for the picture on the PC.

Quick question, I just got this but how do you get the sound out via the 3.5mm? I plugged in my speakers but the sound is only coming through the monitor speakers! I'm using a MBook Pro connected via USB-C. Many thanks!

Great monitor. I have the 38" one and it's great, but I need more screen realestate for work. How are you liking it? I've also been leaning towards an OLED panel, but from what I've seen many don't have thunderbolt capabilities like this machine does. Thoughts?

@@lenardgor true! That makes sense. Sadly, my pockets aren't so deep :)

Is it really crisp 5K or still looks a bit sketch ?
I use the LG IPS 43 inch 4K and it doesn't look as good as the LG 32 inch and 27 inch

This better or the Samsung 49 ???
I'm thinking of getting this monitor, but not sure if my 2060 can handle this monster...
Ultrawide. How does this monitor compare to Samsung's G9?
How is color accuracy for video editing, color grading etc?
Its very good.
ULTRAWIDE sounds just what I need. Could you confirm that if I have both a MacBook Pro and a Windows laptop connected at the same time taking half the screen each, I can just move the mouse between both computers, or do I need to touch/click on anything to switch?
Yes you can move between the two but you need to install software on both you PC and Mac to allow you to do that

Question: is there any impact on resolution/refresh rate when splitting the display between two inputs?
P.S. Ultrawide
Ok I wanted to test this for you before I responded. On a PC Max the refresh reduces to 120hz and HDR option disappears and max colour depth is 8-bit with a resolution 2560x1440

@@GeekStreet thank you! This is what I was trying to find out. Don’t you have to first switch the source, then switch the USB input (separately)? As in, it can’t happen with a single button switch? This is what I’m reading in the manual anyways.

With a usb c connection I'm getting the full 5120x1440 with a 144hz refresh on the mac mini.

@@GeekStreet thanks, been looking for this exact config on the entire internet.
So is this monitor not good for a ps5?
I'm considering this monitor, but I'm concerned about the curve being too gradual. Did you find the curve to be sufficient?
The gradual curve is actually really good as it doesn't feel too overwhelming and really more than sufficient. Hope that sort of helps.
I own the first gen version of this from LG. The 49WL95. I can tell you that the 3800R curve is almost flat to the human eye when sitting in front of it. The biggest regret I have is that it is very hard to read text on the far left and right sides because the monitor is not curving in enough to make those far areas appear straight ahead to your eyes. Even with turning my head its blurry. I have to lean my body side to side to put my eyes in front of those areas in order to read text. Photos and games aren't an issue unless the game has a text based chat or something else that is text based on the far corners. I have heard that an 1800R is the sweet spot for productivity and gaming and that 1000R is too immersive to be functional for work tasks.
@@mike6340 interesting hearing your experience I didnt find the curvature that bad. I guess for productivity you could up the scale on a pc to increase text size which may improve things for you as a suggestion
