      that would suck badly for them, they'd look up in the night sky and see literally NOTHING, whereas for us we haven't come anywhere near having been able to see our entire sky yet. we still have lots to look at and we've already seen a hell of a lot.

      Not until they had very advanced telescopes, since even the nearest star would likely be *millions* of light years away from them and therefore invisible to the naked eye (at least to human eyes). It might not even occur to them to build telescopes that powerful as they would have no reason to believe they would spot anything.

    This video is super nostalgic now. I was 9 when I watched this, now I'm 14. The newer versions are brilliant but this is truly the definition of perfect. The music matches up so well with the figures and pictures. Especially from parts 7:21 - 10:12 the gradual build up with the music really gives me the goosebumps. It's sad to think that now this video is old and probably a bit outdated, but for me I will always remember it as an inspiration towards everything I do. Thanks Times Infinity, and keep them coming.

      Nice video. It would be cool if you put size in meters (using scientific notation) next to size in light years or kms in next comparison. For example 0.2 light years (1.89 * 10^15m). This way it would be simplier to imagine the size.

      +Adam H the omniverse is every concievable reality and unconcievable reality, where literally anything is, was and can be. this literally means that that book you read actually happened in an infinite set of universes this goes to universes with alternate physics, dimensions EVERYTHING.
      fictional characters like walter white be making marijuana instead of meth, goku doing a kamehameha on hitler, ghandi becoming the alien overlord of everything.
      literally anything you can think of is real in a set of infinite universes.

    • @Blue-nn1oh
      @Blue-nn1oh Před 8 lety +4

      +Adam H The "Omniverse" is only a radical hypothesis. It cannot be observed, so it cannot even be a hypothesis technically. I would say the "Omniverse" is a desperate attempt by some scientists to disprove the existence of an intelligent design of the universe. I hold to *real* science, which posits, "We can only *know* what we can *see*."

      +andrew a the bible was gods word and message to us. Aliens have no use in his word to us other than to prove he really did create everything which is what is stated in Genesis. After watching this if people still believe it to be impossible that life is only existent on Earth, they're blinded. Aliens have no purpose to spread gods word. The universe is so infinite that even if one of these alien races wanted to visit us it would take them so long that they'd either lose power, resources, and man power for the trip. I won't go into the theories that make it so they could because that's not what I'm trying to say here. The point is that Aliens are a big possibility simply based on god alone. People used to think that there was nothing beyond the sky and we've proven that there is. Would you then say that science is wrong and religion false? No because we've grown both religiously and scientifically. (Coming from a Christian)

      What is beyond the universe is beyond the mind of humanity, or any being that can exist in this universe. To call it nothing is false, because "nothing" in this universe is just a vacuum, empty space. Beyond the edges of the universe there is no empty space because spacetime does not exist there. It is simply a lack of anything. It is not infinite because no spatial dimensions exist there, and therefore it cannot have a size. It never came into existence, will not change, and cannot change, because there is no time dimension(s) beyond our own universe. The only phrase fit to describe this phenomenon is "the void".

      Sum0fNothing Also, the universe is expanding at all angles. If you simply only looked at left to right expansions, and say they were both moving at the speed of light that would still equal twice the speed of light. now you do that in all angles and you are easily expanding faster than light several times over.

    • @GutenTag7777
      @GutenTag7777 Před 9 lety +20

      Euric Dinkins Doesn't work that way. Let's say you send two objects A and B in opposite directions each at 80% of the speed of light (0.8c) away from you, Y. Now look at if from the point of view of A. Y is moving at 0.8c away from you. B is now moving away from you at 1.6c? Nope it's actually 0.9756c. No matter what you do and at what angles you'll never get above c. Look up "velocity addition formula" if you want to get to the

      I beg to differ. We are very significant! The biggest star can't even think or reason..., we can. Galaxies can't see...., we can. The most distant known objects in the universe are not even aware that they are being studied and observed... by guess who. And until we discover another life form or another intelligent species in another system, our sun is more special than any other star in all the cosmos, because it has an orbiting planet with abundant life on it. Your brain is more complex than the entire universe and it's responsible for everything you have ever known. We are very significant. We are numero uno!

      but still on the grand cosmological scale....all the wealth of knowledge and everything is pretty insignificant...for starters we can say that we can't outlive the stars so i think we are just living our little insignificant lives while some other alien is just doing the same :P :P

Still,thats one thing,the other is that today we might have said : "Mom,I want this summer to go on Mars!"

      +George Stone Isaiah 40:20 in the Bible talks about how the earth is round. Which Is funny because A lot of people thought it was flat for a long time in the past. Also at Job 26:10. This confirms that the Bible says the Earth was round way before Eratosthenes Claimed it was Spherical. Job 26:7. Deuteronomy 1:10 and 10:22. ( The Multitude of stars) Genesis 1:14-19. Jeremiah 10:12, Isaiah 42:5. (Universe expanding) So, I'm not saying the Bible is Religious, It's actually the opposite of religion. But I think you were meaning any teaching that involves creationism. The Bible had a Huge impact in astronomy.

    1:15 is incorrect. Tungsten has the highest melting point of all metals, but it's not the highest of all elements. Tungsten's melting point is 3422C, whereas carbon takes first place with a melting point of 3550C.

    • @redhandsbluefaces

      MelkorHimself Technically, tungsten still has the highest melting point, since carbon sublimates.

    • @BeMedic
      @BeMedic Před 9 lety +3

      redhandsbluefaces Yes, technically I believe you are correct. By definition, melting temperature is usually specified at atmospheric pressure or at a pressure of 1 bar. Giving MelkorHimself the benefit of the doubt, this is not always the case. In my Chemistry textbook I found a specification which states the following, 'The term describing a melting temperature at atmospheric pressure is sometimes called "normal melting temperature" to avoid ambiguity'.
      In conclusion, simply to avoid confusion and arguing, it should say one of either three things.
      1) Of the known chemical elements, Tungsten has the highest melting point at atmospheric pressure.
      2) Of the known chemical elements, Tungsten has the highest normal melting point.
      3) Of the known chemical elements, Carbon has the highest melting point.*
      * In atmospheric pressures, Carbon sublimes and does not liquify.
      The third option is the least appealing in my opinion.
      I hope this clarifies a few things, it certainly did so for me. :) (Yes, it's all about me.)

      As an example, look at the sun, you are not currently looking at the sun, you are looking the sun's past. The light from the sun takes 8 minutes to travel from there to the earth, so if the sun suddenly dissapears, you will still see the sun shining for 8 minutes

Im sure there are lots of it in the vast universe, but we could possibly be the only/first civilization in our galaxy... Its estimated to be around 20 BILLION Earth-like planets only in our galaxy, but for life to even evolve in the first place requires more than just an Earth-like planet. And for life to evolve to an intelligent civilization requires a special kind of luck. I think there could be lots of planets in our galaxy with bacteria or even alien plants and lifeforms, but I think we might have to explore galaxies to find any intelligence. Or, maybe, when we have evolved to the point where we can actually find alien lifeforms, we might be able to speed up their evolution process thru genetic engineering. What does that make us? Gods! :O

And even if it doesn't break down, you will be long dead before you get close to anything, because just for one person, that's a lot of food and water needed. And don't forget the constant bombardment of cosmic radiation, isolation and just plain out going mad. Furthermore, the lack of gravity will cause your organs to fail.
      So if you really want to travel, you better build a Death Star. Other than that, you are equivocally trying to travel around the world naked with a backpack full of jerky and water while on a boogie board.

    I used to be obsessed with this video like 5 years ago, but had since completely forgotten. Then I found the music that was in this video by luck, and I saw all the comments talking about how this video brought them there, then i remembered.
    I can't say I was expecting to find such a cool and "weirdly nostalgic" video. I might actually stick around, this channel looks interesting.

    W8 a min, the observable universe cannot be 93.000.000.000 light years. The universe could be that big or even more, but we cannot observe objects that are more then 13.800.000.000 light years away from us. This is our cosmic horizon and this is what we can see. To me observable universe means what we can see in that radius of 13.8 billion light years around us, but maybe I'm wrong.
    Oh, cool video anyway, i like it.

    • @Baphomet28182
      @Baphomet28182 Před 9 lety +12

      You're both wrong. imcanabian you confuse time with distance. Light has been traveling for 13 billion years, but space is expanding so it has traveled a distance greater than 13 billion light years, roughly 46 billion.
      Shining Armor, galaxies in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field are in fact at a distance of 46 billion light years, this is the radius of the visible universe. 46+46=92 (93) billion light years, this is its diameter. Actually those galaxies might not even exist anymore because in fact we are looking 13 billion years into the past.

    • @lvmesina
      @lvmesina Před 9 lety +2

      Baphomet28182
      In addition to this to clarify even further, the 93 figure is accounted for by the fact that since the universe is presumed to be expanding, galaxies further away from us expand at greater speeds, covering greater distances with time. Like the dots on the deflated balloon analogy - as it is inflated, watch the dots expand away from each other.
      93... is the distance we can observe, it's the farthest DISTANCE we can see that other galaxies have traversed, in the estimated ~14 billion years of TIME ELAPSED.

    it is hard to believe that humans still fight with each other because of petty differences. if we don't get our act together then we will never survive as a species. there is so much beauty throughout our own planet but still we succumb to our primitive perceptions and desires. the reins of our entire species is in the hands of too few people, and they are a constant disappointment to our progress as sentient beings. we are living on the very cusp of a technology boom that could literally take us to the stars. just 6 decades ago we unveiled a 5 megabyte hard drive the size of a refrigerator, and now we have multiple terabyte hard drives that can fit in our pocket. so much has been accomplished but the greed of so few has hindered our potential and has possibly squandered our future. we need to evolve, to transcend into a higher state of spiritual awareness beyond our comprehension of today. we need to break the societal norms of modernity to truly start living up to what we may be. MONEY IS NOT REAL. not in any form is it real. it is all a construct to apply order to a seemingly chaotic world. money is a means to simply the task of living. yet in reality it is worth only what we want it to be worth. imagine a society, or a civilization even, that has no concept of money. all physical needs for everyone are taken care of: food, water, shelter, warmth. this would leave the more creative and knowledge hungry minds to create the extraordinary. today we have the technology, materisls and know how to give EVERYONE on earth a healthy and happy life. but this does not resonate with the corporatist mind set of profits and greed (something abundantly thriving throughout today's society). we could all live like kings and queens if we really wanted to, but unfortunately so many get caught up in the rat race of materialistic life. for those fortunate enough to live in a developed nation, you eould be a fool to not comprehend the built in obsolescence of nearly all material goods we purchase. a great falsehood has been projected in front of us, but we are either too ignorant to realize it or too afraid to confront it. every day, we lose a little more freedom than the previous day. we live in a constant cycle of work, pay, work, pay, and for what? most of us live our lives without a sense of wonder and curiosity. we are numbed by the minutia of what passes as entertainment these days. most teens these days can rattle off the artist on the top 10 lists, or the stats of their favorite sports players, but i'll be willing to bet that less than 1/100 could name you just one of the platonic solids. there is a natural order to all creation and we are intentionally forgetting our ties to that order with every generation. amidst all this negativity i still have a great hope. a hope that we will wake up as a species and see the insanity of what we are doing to one another on a daily basis. we can achieve so much if we truly wanted to. solidarity is the foundation for progress. for the sake of posterity, i hope we can set aside our meager differences and learn to bolster one snother's strengths whilst honing our weaknesses. we ALL have to share this pale blue dot...and if we succeed before destroying ourselves then we can ALL share this divine universe.

      +turd ferguson Great point, an ASI revolution is around the corner and very little of the population is aware! I'm going to do a video series on the great changes coming soon to society, I think awareness of the technology explosion needs to be spread as fast as possible. Our future will be determined by the events that transpire this century, a great deal of caution is needed for the road ahead.

      +turd ferguson You're wrong. Humans thrive in conflict. Almost every major advance in human history was because of war or in some cases a "cold war". Earth is a hostile place. All life on earth has evolved to out compete everyone else. We will always be war hungry and hostile, the only way we will EVER be unified is if 1. One nation completely dominates and/or destroys all other nations or 2. We discover another sentient race in the galaxy and we unite to conquer them. Don't pretend we're anything else, it's simply in our nature. And as far as money goes... Money IS what drives our technological progress. As soon as capitalism entered the world, technology has been booming. Get your head out of the clouds.

      very interesting comment , yes humans are on the edge of their existence and they as one, will have to decide if they turn to another path or keep going. as Yoda said " you have to unlearn, what you have learned" the capabilties our technology has is already high enough to create a peaceful place on this earth, however the projects that try to realise that, like for example the venusproject (search it up) does not get support by the greedy Elitists (Central Bank Agency , Federal Reserve, Bankster Families, Lobbyists) that run the Moneytary System and any Global Market Strategy and exactly that and the fact that a patenting and support of this projects would change the corrupted system they builded up , is the reason why they dont do it, they want this broken system to stay alive , till it collapses into itself. Humans need a Revolution but not by Anger and Destruction rather by a Open Mind, Spiritual Progress, and Creation Drive for the sake of others, starting to get independent from the system, which actually noone of us really needs. It just became indoctrinated into our mind, humans was made to think that they need it , they are rasied materialistic , making them believe work is one of the most important things so they can serve for this hell we live in and later help their enslavers without even knowing it, by pressuring others aswell into this hell. That is what we really live as a species, alot try to escape trying to get a kind of independent life by drawing or doing other stuff. Humans are an Investenment for the rulers nothing else, and the rulers only have power because humans as one give them, so why we dont do the opposite of it as one, escaping from this prison?

    Absolutely love videos like this, just shows how amazing the universe is and how little of it we really know. We as a species think we are important but in reality we are nothing in scale to the universe, and to think we are alone I just find that impossible. But if we are that's scary and a great shame, we might be the only species with the ability to view and have knowledge of the universe. No living thing may ever, ever know of any of it, that is scary.

      +ll WARGUNNER ll I think that we are important, because we are the part of the universe that can observe itself. A whole lot of empty space is not as interesting as a small sample of self aware life.

    • @iidirectxii7545
      @iidirectxii7545 Před 8 lety +1

      +Michael Ricketson Hmmm, very true. I was wrong to say that we're not important, we could very well be the only species that could ever observe the universe. To imagine that most of the universe would be missed, never to be known of, to have never been observed, that is very sad.

    • @michaelricketson1365
      @michaelricketson1365 Před 8 lety +2

      ll WARGUNNER ll I agree. But also I think there are higher forms of consciousness out there, too. Everywhere we look in the universe, we can always find something smaller, and always find something bigger. So I think it's safe to guess that we're not the pinnacle of consciousness, there might be someone even more grand out there, someone who can understand more than our minds ever could.
