I miss when the networks would do stuff like this every season. It was cool.
Why did they all mostly stop in the early 90s?
@@highway2heaven91 They figured out this is time that could be used for advertising revenue.
Yes indeed
@@highway2heaven91The rise of cable television.
This is so classy
It was later updated to include Joyce DeWitt and the stars of the new ABC shows that fall (Ann Jillian, Paul Kreppel, Susan Sullivan (It’s A Living), Tom Hanks, Donna Dixon (Bossom Buddies), Ted Knight and Lynda Cornell (Too Close for Comfort)).
Wow! Henry Winkler with facial hair! Glad he shaved it once the new season of Happy Days started.
I think he did keep the beard for the season premiere when he became a teacher and gave him a steady girlfriend with a kid.
You And Me And ABC: America's Number 1.
Omg…the memories 😁
By this point, the network had fallen to second place after several major mistakes from last season; pulling veteran shows out of their established time slots in an attempt to dominate every night of the week. Because of that, the ratings for Mork and Mindy and Laverne and Shirley plummeted. Angie, which had been the fifth highest-rated series at the end of the ‘78-‘79 season had been cancelled by the end of last season. This season, Taxi would be moved out of its established Tuesday at 9:30 time slot and put on Thursday’s. It, too, would experience a massive ratings drop forcing ABC to cancel at the end of next season (only to be picked up by NBC.)
CBS was the ratings powerhouse that season thanks, in no small part, to Dallas. This year, of course, was the reveal of who JR was shot by.
Taxi was moved to Wednesdays, not Thursdays.
This was after "All That Jazz" won all those Oscars. I remember it like it was yesterday.

At Least ABC's Strongest Nights in the 1980-81 Season were Monday's, Tuesday's and Thursday's.
What about Saturdays? Love Boat and Fantasy Island, Man.
@@good03boy ABC was already waning in the Nielsen ratings by that point.

The commercial from summer 1980 I remember seeing was the one-minute version with a different song and a deep-voiced announcer listing off the network's stars as they danced ("... and Dianne!" when Dianne Kay was shown).
I'm guessing the announcer was probably Ernie Anderson.
