I could never imagine a person like you not being around. I watch you continually, and even I get emotional. You have a very kind heart ❤️. Isn’t there tick prevention treatment or are these paralysis ticks somehow resistant? What geographic locations are these ticks found?

    • @procyonpaw
      @procyonpaw Před měsícem +2

      Paralysis ticks are found along the east coast of Australia, common in bushland areas where they hide amongst foliage and jump down on passing animals.
      Paralysis ticks can also be found in the US, in the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain states.
      There is tick prevention widely available (in the form of a pill or chew, or collar) and most people do listen to vets and make sure their dogs get the preventative care, but sometimes paralysis ticks have a level of immunity so it's important that dogs are still checked after bush walks to make sure they haven't picked any up.

    • @kkdoc7864
      @kkdoc7864 Před měsícem +2

      @@procyonpaw thank you so much for explaining. I was just wondering why anyone would risk that for their pet considering both the cost and especially just the thought of losing him/her. • @procyonpaw
      @procyonpaw Před měsícem +1

      @@kkdoc7864 Oh yeah, absolutely! Thankfully I've never experienced paralysis ticks in 14 years of keeping dogs and living on the east coat of Aus so I feel unless living in a really wooded area paralysis ticks are probably uncommon, but I am paranoid. I have a relative who almost lost a 70 kg (154 lbs) mastiff to a single tick (they lived on a heavily wooded rural property). They're nasty little things. Thankfully the mastiff pulled through with vet treatment. I think it's important to check dogs after bush walks or hikes, even if the dog does get preventative.

I find all arachnids kind of horrifying. I also hope you’re able to keep all of your dogs super safe.

    @patgray2569 Před měsícem +3

    Is there a prevention you can use so they dont get bit.

    • @procyonpaw
      @procyonpaw Před měsícem +3

      There are tick treatments - either in a chew or pill form, or a tick/flea collar. These treatments are vital and should be administered as directed by the vet or treatment packet.
      It decreases the risk of ticks biting, but some ticks are immune so it's important that even if a dog is on tick prevention, that they are checked after walks for ticks.

    I was an anil mal rescuer voluntear when i was younger . Advice here.Just give him a quick bath or just immerce the animal on the warm water bath with diazenonm that you have prepare without Removing Any Tick , do not rinse as they will die and will fall by themselves the following day or you can given them a simparika tablet now dat or other tablet for flees . Do not rinse the animal and let it go . Next day all the ticks will be dead and not attached to the skin. When i went to live on the town where i am living now in Chile years ago, i was shocked to see so many straight dogs fortunatelly you dont see that now and the y only a few straight fortunatelly they are well look after in the street and they are all neuter or epaded. Years ago used to bath them with Diazenont all of them included cats and we managed to erradicate ticks and flees from them. With the tablets for flees a give that with cooked pieces of meat so is easy for them to digest. This ticks it was something new to me as used to live near a volcanoe and we did have rain with Sulfur and ashes. The other things that people have so many ticks is because they don't have free chickens free roaming and eating all type of insects including the ticks. I have visit a few friends with small farm and none of them have ticks on cats and dogs.

      Tick preventative chews and collars are widely available and pushed by vets in Australia, but some ticks (especially paralysis ticks) can have a level of immunity so the treatment doesn't completely prevent this from happening, just decreases the risk.
