    In Saphira’s case: if two specialists are needing to bring in even more specialists does that mean the case might be unique enough to be written up in an academic study?

      Probably. I was in a Medical journal (human) because I had osteopenia made worse by high doses of prednisone. My rheumatologist was going to write it up. I had to sign for him to use my info(anonymously- no name or identifying info).

      Most likely. I know my husband's spinal surgery

      I would imagine so, given that it’s so rare to see a case like her’s, let alone one with such unique anatomy, it seems like a perfect case to be written up

      I had that kind of experience with my teeth. I went in one time probably 40 years ago or 30 years ago to a dentist because my gums were so swollen and painful but I was pregnant at the time and so he said to wait till after I had the baby to see if my gums calmed down and they really didn't so they had to do a a procedure where they went in and doing a quarter of my teeth at a time and went way up under the gums and scraped tarter out from under there and after a couple of days the difference in that one quarter of my mouth was so dramatic that they asked if they could take pictures to use as a case study and so they took pictures and I went back in for another quarter of my mouth to be done it had to be done in four sessions cuz it took so long to do just a quarter but they took pictures along the way and said that they were going to use it as a case study. So yeah I got to be in some dental magazine, unfortunately!

    Oh my goodness, my dog had bladder stones! My mother and I always thought she was just chubby (for a schnauzer) but she was always really firm around her fully and would be uncomfortable when we picked her up.
    One night, she started acting very weird, whining and being restless in her bed. Since she ate cat turds, I just assumed she ate cat litter as well and that the cat litter had inflated her gut or something (I was 14). I really wanted my mother to take her to the Emergency vet, but she said that she could make it til morning.
    Time skip to me waking up in the morning and my mother sending me a text saying that she took Chanel and that she was in critical condition.
    Apparently she had an abnormal number of bladder stones and that she was bleeding internally. Because we didn’t live in a big town, the only surgeon there said that we had a 25% chance she would make it, and that the best option was to euthanize. But we did the surgery, the ended up puncturing a large stone in the urethra causing more bleeding and lost her once, but in the end, she made it! 6 years now and I thank that surgeon every time is visit the vet.

    Dr Danni's little happy dance will forever bring me joy! And sweet little Beretta, the bad press around Pit Bulls is so unfair, they are such wonderful, loving family dogs, the breed has suffered terribly due to a certain kind of person abusing and weaponising them in order to look "hard", as always the animal suffers, and never the perpetrators. • @rachelhignett9473
      @rachelhignett9473 Před rokem

      @@harpergrace5846same as any insurance. You pay a monthly premium, if your pet requires a visit, you can claim on the insurance. You pay a set amount of the cost and the insurance covers the rest (depending on what you've set the cover to).
      I.e. I have a dog, giant breed, no previous medical issues, i pay 200 per month for insurance that covers up to 7k. Dog has an injury requiring surgery. The cost of surgery, xrays, followup etc is 5.5k. I pay the "co-pay" of 500. Insurance covers the other 5k.

    We have two vet clinics in my town and one has two vets and the other one that’s closer to my house has one and is SO much better than the other one we got more information in probably less then ten minutes at the better one compared to when we took our cat to the one further away and she stayed overnight.

    A dog l took over started leaking, so l had to get diapers for her. It's common for female dogs that have been seriously overweight leaks !! Another good reason to have tough love by doing what's best for them, not what they want by eating too much or sharing human food.

    I know that the term hermaphrodite is outdated in humans now and we use the word intersex. I thought it would be the same for other mammals, for hermaphroditism is technically male and female and not an in between combo. Why is it not intersex? Very interesting to learn about it though.

    • @EsmeMarion
      @EsmeMarion Před rokem +6

      I believe that episode might have been recorded back when the term was less well-known. I'm sure if this happened in 2023, they would have said that. That irked me too, but sometimes you just have to roll your eyes and sigh at cishet ignorance.

      Because animals only have 2 genders and so the term hermaphrodite is applicable as a veterinary diagnostic tool.

      For cats it was usually meloxicam or buphrenorphine. For dogs, it was usually Rimadyl, Galliprant, or Tramadol.

    Fist case was very unusual. As a vet tech of 10 years, I've seen a cat with both genders, but no dog so far.
    The French Bulldogs... well, can't say I've seen that before, but doesn't surprise me it happened in French bulldogs. Those guys are wired all wrong in all sorts of ways. Also, very interesting choice to put a Frenchie under general anesthesia without intubation. With their massively deformed upper respiratory tracks, their airways can close up real fast. Can't say I'm a fan of that decision, even if just for a couple of x-rays. I would always intubate a Frenchie to make 100% sure their airways are clear.
    The last case is not a Rottweiler. Maybe a Rottweiler x Dobermann? And the poor baby had it's tail cut off, too. =( So cruel.
