  • Witcher 3 Is Avallac'h EVIL? This video discusses Avallac'h from the witcher 3 and what his motives are. What was Avallac'h like in the witcher books? How did Avallac'h change in the witcher games? Was Avallac'h helping Ciri and Geralt? I discuss this Aen Elle Elf and more in today's video to determine if Avallac'h is good or bad.
The Witcher® 3: Wild Hunt is a story-driven, next-generation open world role-playing game, set in a visually stunning fantasy universe, full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. You play as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter tasked with finding a child from an ancient prophecy.
Geralt of Rivia, is a witcher, or monster hunter for hire, a white-haired and cat-eyed legend in his own time. Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength and reflexes, witchers like Geralt are a natural consequence of and counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live. As Geralt, you’ll embark on an epic journey in a war-ravaged world that will inevitably lead you to confront a foe darker than anything humanity has faced so far-the Wild Hunt.
Built exclusively for next-generation hardware, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt marks a new era in RPG visual quality. Raising the bar for the entire genre, with its deeply integrated 5.1 audio and jaw-dropping graphics powered by CD PROJEKT RED’s proprietary REDengine 3, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt promises an entirely new kind of experience.

I always thought Avallac’h should have been the big bad of The Witcher 3. In the books, he’s flat out scummy-holding Ciri hostage to have sex with the elven king and bear him a child. His people’s home world is dying and someone with the Elder Blood is needed to lead them to safety. And as George says, he’s never gotten over Lara Dorren leaving him for a lowly human. Tons of motivation for Avallac’h to betray Geralt and Ciri. Plus, I’m a sucker for stories where the hero discovers bad guy was standing next to him the whole time (I’m looking at you, Solas).

I think it really is possible he had a change of heart. Maybe he thought after some consideration, and after seeing the direction Eredin was taking the Aen Elle and the Red Riders, he considered that maybe his kind weren’t much better than humans. So maybe that’s why he’s somewhat amicable with us in TW3.

I wouldn't say he is doing it for the greater good, the most evil would still want to stop the white frost because it is a threat to them. His working with Ciri to stop it is just as selfish as wanting her blood in my opinion, the white frost is threatening his home world so helping her is really just helping himself. She is already past the point that she can be forced to marry and conceive a child so his motivation for her is no longer there but if she lives she will eventually marry and have a child who will then have a child of their own who he could kidnap and force into a marriage and have half elven children that could be bred until they are pretty much elves. And I am sure he intended to get rid of Eriden the whole time so whoever the new king would be would be Ciri's grandaughters husband. He is playing a long game for the same goal he had in the books but helping Ciri and stopping the white frost is just for that goal. Towards humans I would say yes he is evil, for elves he isnt evil but not good either.

Avallac'h always interested me as a deeply morally grey character, between being almost just evil in the books to where his story concludes in Witcher 3. I think in the same way vampires see humans are far lesser, elves do as well, its sort of an interesting tale of a hundreds of years old higher up elf relearning that humans are not just disposable pets. Whether that was a total change of heart or not is where the interest in debate comes in.

Strictly speaking, assuming Avallac'h *primarily* loved Lara for Elder Blood is debatable; he seems very-very personally hurt based on his LOTL outburst. Another noteworthy fact, Avallac'h is of Elder Blood himself - as are Aen Saevherne in general.
Finally, in the books, Avallac'h's motivation is to save the Aen Seidhe from persecution and death through the "global cooling" of the Continent. White Frost is not a multiverse-traversing cataclysm, it's the natural process of the planet on which the Witcher's characters reside. So Aen Elle do have a "greater good" motive (not negating that they have their own imperialistic streak as well) and Avallac'h works toward that.

Specifically of the en-el-elves and the main villan. The main story dosen't really have a very strong gut punch. It is sort of there in the background.

Great video and channel (I'm currently binging through it because my god, such great lore videos!) Avallac'h frustrates me in the game as someone who has just started reading the books because I feel like the game doesn't do a great job of communicating why Avallac'h might not be one to trust. Like as someone unfamiliar with him, he comes off as a guy who just helped Ciri avoid the Wild Hunt, who then got turned into Uma, and then when we finally meet him, Geralt is randomly distrustful of him. But the game doesn't really help people not knowledgeable of the books as to why Geralt doesn't trust him (atleast to my memory). This video helps clear up ALOT! Thank you!

Another great video, mate. I would like to see, at some point, a breakdown of the worst ending of The Witcher 3. Does Ciri really die, or just disappears after defeating the White Frost? And Geralt has beaten more monsters in a single battle than those surrounding him at the end of The Witcher 3 bad ending. Sure he believes he has lost Ciri, but he still has the love of his life Yen (or Triss if you go that way), so he still had things to fight for. Why would he give up??? Makes no sense to me.

If he's not lying durin the conversation in frozen lighthouse, and it does not seems he does, he basically seeing how fear of White Frost has driven Eredin towards certain actions and attitudes, he embraced pragmatic stoicism, and made an only choice he saw would produce results he desired. He yhen realised that virtue and compassion, and not being racist towards humans, lf course, would produce the same result. Thus, he self reflected, and sided with Cirilla's goals (the final act in the Tower is him putting all agency and soultions to his goals in the hands of another essentially).

@8:13: It (the White Frost) is basically the end of every universe/dimension, i.e. a multiversal-level extinction.... event/entity. People talk about "worlds" a lot, but I think that's because this is a medieval setting and they don't totally-understand what a universe or a dimension is. The world of the Aen Aelle is a completely-different parallel dimension/alternate universe as The Continent- a different reality. That's why the only way to travel from The Continent to that universe or vice-versa is via magical portals. And there are A LOT of others of these other universes as well (the reason Post-Conjunction creatures appeared on The Continent after the Conjunction of the Spheres is because they crossed-over/were transported over from other universes during the Conjunction.) And as many of these universes as there are, the White Frost would eventually consume them *ALL*. Every last one would be rendered a barren, frozen wasteland where nothing lived or could survive or thrive. When Ciri defeats the White Frost, she is literally saving the lives of every person in her world, present and future- everyone who is living or will ever be born, AND doing the same for every universe the White Frost had not gotten to yet (....at least, that's true assuming the White Frost will never come back. In typically Andrej style, it's unclear/ambiguous if that is the case.) We're talking probably billions of lives, maybe trillions. And a pretty strong case is made that Ciri would not have been able to do that without Avallac'h's help so in a sense he saved everyone in multiple existences as well. That's a strong case to forgive him for A LOT.

He, at the very least, does care to an extent about Ciri’s wellbeing in contrast to Vilgefortz who could care less and only cares about the power that the elder blood can give him. 1:30 He was meant to have a child with her, there's nothing vague about that.
2:14 Honestly, his love for Lara seemed quite toxic, he always spoken of "how Cregenam stole her from him" but Lara didn't belonged to him, she was not his posession. Gregenam stole nothing because neither of them owned Lara and if Crevan truly loved her, he wouldn't consider her as his or be that angry with her choices. It's not love, it's control.
2:42 I don't really understand what you are trying to say, Even if he loved Lara, Avalla'ch is not the one that make that decision. They were meant to marry because they were both geneticals bombs, part of careful breeding programme to cultivate the Elder Gene so the Aen Elle could take back control of Ard Gaeth. Avalla'ch has Elder Blood or at least a similar vesion.
5:55 That plan was so flawed. It was stated in the books that only young elves can reproduce and Auberon is old, like very old. So Avalla'ch plan had no chance to work so i don't understand what he was doing. He was younger than Auberon and had the Elder Gene, he was meant to couple with Lara so why wasn't he choose as candidate ?
6:55 He was their king, no need to go that far as god.
7:21 Also, in the books, it's ambiguous if Eredin really wanted Auberon dead, he seemed really surprised when Ciri told him.
9:46 Not from his point of view, i think he wanted the Elder Blood not just to get its power back but also to save the Aen Seidhe from human oppression and the White Frost.
10:10 Well, humans generally value their lives and the lives of other animals based on the fact they are more intelligent and sapient so that's not very different from Avalla'ch opinion on humans.

@@geoffrogers7590 I’m not sure. The only time you see him fight is in the Dhiddeweht desert, against the sandcrabs. We don’t really know how capable he is at fighting. But keep in mind, that Geralt killed Imlerith, Caranthir, and Eredin by himself. I think Geralt can kill one more Aen Elle.

He does some evil shit in the books, his intentions might not be totally motivated by malice but he has a lot of contempt towards humans for sure. Definitely a morally gray character. I don't think anyone is 100% good or 100% evil unless we're talking Jesus and Satan lol

Not bad, but closer to bad than good. He's manipulative and utilitarian, which isn't bad, but he's abusive and racist.
Though I do also like him in the books because of how he wants to protect history.

There are villains, there are heroes, there are bystanders, and tall tales, it all depends on who you are and which side of the story you fall on what are in the end.

You need to watch more anime, dude. Non-humans are people, too. Basically, if they can communicate with humans, they're people. This includes dragons and demons, and beast kin, and especially elves, dwarves, etc. Especially if the dragons can shapeshift into humans. Would also include slimes like Rimuru from Tensei Slime. I mention this because you seem to question if Avallac'h is a person, and he very much is... and if he's racist, which he also is, in the more literal sense. He's actually racist against other races, instead of an ethnicist, racist against other ethnicities as the term "racist" is usually used.

“Evil” is a perspective, nothing more. There’s no real good or evil, everyone thinks they’re doing the right thing, even the antagonist. In his mind he is a force for good, in my mind he is opposition with his own agenda. So short answer, no. There’s no “evil” or “good” just that person’s perspective and how their agenda compares to yours. To me, he is the enemy who wants ciri and her power for her own reasons, to himself he is trying to control a danger for the betterment of everyone. It’s all about a persons perspective and their own views on what is right or wrong. Despite his insistence he n wanting to do good for everyone and have her power for right reasons, to me he’s just another shady person with a secret agenda to take advantage of ciris abilities. So I’ll say he’s “evil” even though “evil” doesn’t really exist as black and white as that, his ideals and views heavily contrast with my own. Not a fan of his racism, and how he conducts himself to use ciri and her abilities. He’d probably say I’m the “evil” one though.

I call him "my favorite incel elf" lmao. He's a guilty pleasure character that I also love to hate. I find him interesting because he helped Ciri in the game, even if he's still benefiting from it. He's evil. He is complacent in trapping and cocercing Ciri into the whole child making with her ancestor. If I was Geralt I would kill him for subjecting my daughter to that, new leaf or not, once he's outlived his usefulness, off with his head. He also practices eugenics, that's never good. He is totally aware of the genocide his people commit and want to continue by using Ciri, then had his change of mind. Definitely a lawful evil alignment. I wonder about all the cut content that involed him...

Yes. He's evil full stop. I unironically wish you could kill him in TW3. He just like all the other Aen Elle with a twisted perversion towards Ciri and her blood, did not in any universe care one bit about her. His past aside, he's an egotistical perverted wacko who should have died.
