  • Witcher 3 Vampire Lore for the Bruxa. In today's vampire witcher 3 lore video I will discuss one of the most dangerous of all the vampires, the Bruxa. Witcher Monster Lore. The Bruxa is a monster first introduced in the blood and wine expansion for the witcher 3, although it was present for the base game of both the witcher 1 and 2 and made a breif appreance in the witcher books.
    The Witcher® 3: Wild Hunt is a story-driven, next-generation open world role-playing game, set in a visually stunning fantasy universe, full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. You play as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter tasked with finding a child from an ancient prophecy.
    Geralt of Rivia, is a witcher, or monster hunter for hire, a white-haired and cat-eyed legend in his own time. Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength and reflexes, witchers like Geralt are a natural consequence of and counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live. As Geralt, you’ll embark on an epic journey in a war-ravaged world that will inevitably lead you to confront a foe darker than anything humanity has faced so far-the Wild Hunt.
    Built exclusively for next-generation hardware, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt marks a new era in RPG visual quality. Raising the bar for the entire genre, with its deeply integrated 5.1 audio and jaw-dropping graphics powered by CD PROJEKT RED’s proprietary REDengine 3, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt promises an entirely new kind of experience.

      It seems among Vampires there are two kinds of “higher vampires.”
      The Novigrad serial killer claimed to be a higher, but once he is killed he doesn’t regenerate and fully die. So he isn’t biologically a true higher vampire, but he shows intelligence similar to a human like an actual higher.
      So I guess the two “higher vampires” are like 1. Those who shown human intelligence but can be killed normally. 2. Those who shown human intelligence but can regenerate from lethal wounds and only can be killed by another higher vampire

    • @MitchJohnson0110
      @MitchJohnson0110 Před 5 lety +7

      higher vampires < Higher Vampires

    • @qdllc
      @qdllc Před 5 lety

      Dean Heng - Higher vampires can’t be “killed” by ordinary means, but the books established the following...
      That they can be rendered inert if sufficiently injured. Regis was “killed” by villagers thanks to his intoxication with human blood. He spent 50 years in the ground before he regenerated to the point that he could leave the grave. Regis was again “killed” in the final book when Vilgefortz collapsed a pile of rubble upon him and essentially used magic to melt it into slag. This would likely have kept Regis from ever regenerating had Dettlaff not arrived and did what he did to restore Regis.
      So, maybe Orianna and the coroner in Novigrad are higher vampires, and would eventually reappear once they’ve had enough time to regenerate. Likewise, if you damaged a higher vampire enough, while they would not truly be “dead,” they would be rendered harmless indefinitely.

    Their speed must be massively supersonic. In Witcher lore, Geralt is described many times to be super fast, faster than eyes can see, and Bruxas are even faster than him. Probably is thank to his super reflexes, above his speed, that help him to fight them, even if, in books was said there is a potion that can increase Witcher's speed but that kind of potion doesn't exist in Witcher 3.

  • @Inkspeckle
    @Inkspeckle Před 5 lety +11

    I think Orianna is a "sophisticated" Bruxa, in the same vein that the Coroner is a more sophisticated Katakan.
    Higher Vampires to someone hunting them (like a witcher) most likely means something akin to the vampire having at least human levels of intelligence, the ability to reason, and possibly even blend in with normal humans, whereas "lesser" vampires are essentially just beasts with vampiric features.
    It would make sense for witchers to classify them this way, as it makes a huge difference in fighting them. Fighting something that runs on animal instinct is very different from fighting something with the ability to ambush, reason, and make calculated attacks.
    True Higher Vampires being a distinct race might not even be widely known among non-vampires, as they are 1) exceedingly rare 2) extremely difficult to detect unless they reveal themselves voluntarily and 3) an all around secretive people.
    So it's possible the confusion stems from the fact that a lot of monster-hunters, witchers etc. can't really know the inherent differences between say a highly advanced Bruxa or Katakan because vampires themselves make a point of not revealing it.
    After all, a Bruxa taken for a (more powerful) True Higher Vampire is not gonna correct that mistake, since it likely means less people willing to hunt her, and True Higher Vampires have no reason to correct the confusion themselves - why give humans an advantage hunting their kin?
    I think vampires don't make as much of a "class distinction" among themselves, as long as the other vampire is able to reason and communicate. Dettlaff especially is said to prefer "lesser" vampire kin to the company of humans. And it would make sense for a people who have effectively been exiled from their homeworld to share more of a bond with others of their kind, even if they're not exactly the same species of vampire.
    In short, I don't think it's contradictory for Orianna to be a highly sophisticated Bruxa as opposed to a True Higher Vampire. Pretty sure personality matters more to someone like Regis than something as superficial as race or class anyway.

It's been a while... but I distinctly remember randomly talking to the women wearing hoods/cloaks only to hear a shrill giggle, the cloak falling to the ground and then a fight. It may be a rare encounter, but I distinctly remember it and being caught completely off guard. In fact, that makes me think it was before the invasion as I had no idea what it was at the time.

      Yep it was before Night of The Fangs mission. Theres a few of those women that are constantly walking around the town (might only be during night) and you can encounter them in the wilds across the map. I think its only a chance of them revealing themselves when you talk to them cause it only happened to me a couple times out of all of the hooded when I spoke too. Personally of the belief Oriana is a true higher vampire. I don’t really buy the theories of her and the doctor from Novigrad being lesser while at the same time having a human form that fools a large portion of the playerbase (strictly talking about the serial killer side quest and reactions on the Witcher 3 subreddit)
    Truth be told, we don’t know all too much about the vampires, and it very well could be a mislabel on CDPRs part, as Geralt originally thought the girl at the manor was human until Nivellen told him about the dreams (as some vampires are mislabeled in the bestiary)
    Back to my point (also a tl;dr) I believe some vampires are truly higher in nature. We only know of Regis, Detlaff and the Unseen Elder- 3 of an entire race.
    Their true power limit remains to be seen in the Witcher world, so the idea that not all higher vampires have the “higher” form isn’t too far fetched. For all we know, they (Oriana and the doctor) could have been taking pity on Geralt for getting involved, using a “lesser” form instead of their higher.

  • @donwild50

    I really get confused with the whole "higher vampire/Higher Vampire." Perhaps the Higher Vampires such as Dettlaff and Regis begin as the generic "higher vampire" and evolve into true "Higher Vampires" with age. That might explain how it is mentioned in B&W that Higher Vampires don't all have identical powers. Some tend to gather covens, some have higher abilities to alter themselves into swarms of bats or birds...their attributes seem to vary. While Regis and Dettlaff have near equal strength, they don't react identically. The last fact regarding Orianna being a true "Higher Vampire" is that she knows of the existence and whereabouts of the Elder Vampire. While all vampires seem to know about him and defer to him, I doubt most would know his actual whereabouts. While Regis knows about the Elder, he tells Geralt that he must learn of his whereabouts from Orianna. Whether this infers that Regis doesn't know the Elder's exact whereabouts or that he is totally unwilling to share it is unclear. If Orianna is truly a Bruxa, she is beyond the normal Bruxae because she lives completely openly among the society of Toussaint. Indeed, she is a major figure in that society. The other Bruxae encountered in B&W are rather more hidden. They're out there as cloaked women...indeed walking the streets you run into them constantly. Hard to imagine the citizens of Toussaint seem quite ignorant of a group of creatures that literally infest their cities and the province as a whole, along with other forms of vampires. For a society steeped in fairy tale legends, it seems odd they know so little about the vampires.

    You are overthinking the Orianna debacle. CD Projekt Red simply presented her in a trailer as a Bruxa but then, at some point, decided to upgrade her to a Higher Vampire for the actual Blood and Wine DLC release. Not only does Regis outright imply that she is a Higher Vampire, but also one of special standing, as she is the only one who knows the Unseen Elder's secret location. Furthermore, the witcher medallions do detect Bruxas but can not detect Higher Vampires. And that is clearly the case with Orianna - in the DLC, the medallion does not hum in Orianna's presence. End of story.
