How Good Is Your Memory? | The DRM Paradigm & False Memories

- How good is your memory? Think you can pass this memory test? In this video, we will memorize multiple lists of words to challenge your brain. This procedure is based on the Deese-Roediger-McDermott paradigm (DRM paradigm for short). Essentially, this paradigm helps demonstrate how we form false memories. Good luck!

Thank you for this because I am doing this for my dissertation and struggled to understand how I would present it
Glad you can get some value from my video!
did pretty decent :)
One could argue that the brain remembering sleep and chair is not really wrong. It is wrong when you think about it in an abstract, modern sense. But we are neither designed nor required (mostly) to remember useless lists of words. Most often we need to remember concepts, or the gist of something.
If I tell a story it doesn't matter if the character was sleeping or dozing. It doesn't matter that it was a not chair, but a seat.
On the same thought, I could rage endlessly about exams that ask such specific questions. Who the fuck cares what this number or that chemical composition is? It's important why it is and what the implications of it are.
Very true! And I think you bring up some good points. However, I think when this really comes into play is when we over rely on our memories for specific details. For example, when witnesses need to describe what they remember during a trial. Those details could be the difference between someone going behind bars or being let free.
But, for the most part, our brains optimize our thought processes so we can function better as a whole and it's great for most inconsequential things.
what about dog, cat, lizard, llama, turtle and bear?
I got all correct I 🧟 didn't pause or cheat
I could come up with 11/15 on the first one, not one incorrect, and I didn’t write sleep either. On the second one I selected bench and sit, and not chair. So you’re telling me I’m a genius and destined for greatness? Ok thx
Hey, that's pretty impressive. Now come back in a month and do it on 2x speed.
same here
Idk if you are being sarcastic. But your memory isn't your full intelligence, in fact it's like 10 percent of your full intelligence. So this doesen't make you a genius. Get measured by an actual professional on IQ, I know IQ isn't that reliable but it get it done then tell me
@@yogtissue3908 yes, I was being sarcastic. Thought I made that abundantly clear, but then again this is the internet.
@@mysigt_ I said I didn't know if you were being sarcastic relax
I don’t know if you are gonna read this but I’m so disappointed by the fact that this channel is so underrated 😭 I hope you keep posting videos though. I really love the way you explain things, very easy to understand!!! Thank you for making those great videos, I learned A LOTTT 🥺🥺🥺❤️
Thank you so much for this comment! It really made my day. I have a few videos in the pipeline, but I'm taking a brief break to focus on my busy personal life. I will upload more videos soon!
MindfulThinks sure, yourself should come first ☺️ anyway, can’t wait to watch all the new videos!
Most people will think the word sleep. I think because the word is suggested by the spellings of the other words before it...lol
13 words from both lists, but I did select 3 words (including the 2 right ones) on the last test
sure of:
bed
rest
blanket
snooze
drowsy
peace
slumber
doze
snore
nap
wake
dream
tired
unsure/guess:
sleepy
comfy
I did pretty well, I had to guess for a couple of words simply because I knew I needed 15 but could only remember 13. I didn't remember yawn or awake (but I remembered wake. Those were too similar)
For the second test I got it all right. Sit and bench.
Okay, didn't fail any of that and recalled 10/15 words in first test, and not a single one was incorrect :D
I have a terrible memory, to give an example, i met someone with the same name as me at my job and forgot that they had the same name the very next day. Smh. Yet somehow i passed both of these tests, although i almost wrote sleep and i almost chose chair, i stopped myself beforehand. Interesting
Bed rest drowsy doze dream awake wake peace tired (I thought if sleep but knew it was not there)
If you don’t identify sleep or chair and you can tell your list is completely different. What does that mean?
It was not about the part that sleep wasn't there but there were 15 words there and trust me, I can't remember 7 of them only 6
I remembered “sleep”.
awesome video, thanks :)
