I think the same but on the contrary listening to music while taking a few minute break is very much effective, But again it requires some self discipline to stop listening to music and go back to study after the break. Also according to the psychologists a particular work becomes a habit if you continuously carry on for 21 days so it is just a matter of patience and self belief.

Music - a great study aid when applied properly. When I was in college I had to make up my Psychology Mid-term exam at Finals due to a hospitalization. To prepare, I studied with Aerosmith cranked up. When test time arrived I brought along my music and earphones. As I said, I had to take 2 major tests that day. Using my method, I finished BOTH tests before anyone else finished just their final exam. I got B's on both exams. My study theory was simple - just add another level of neural connections to help me recall information. Connect the music to the information, however my brain wanted to go about it. Nothing more than that...and I didn't dawdle over rethinking my answers. I'm still proud of how well that worked out for me that day.

  • @shaskazuluhotmailcom
    @shaskazuluhotmailcom Před 4 lety +221

    My notes on this video:
00:17 1.- The sleep sandwich. Instead of one long study session, you should study, sleep and study some more. Storing memories is one of the most important functions of a good night's sleep. While our conscious goes to bed, our insconscious is actively storing all kinds of stuff in our long-term memory, but when we pull an all-nighter we're preventing our brain from actually learning and retaining those memories. Study for a few hours, get a good night's sleep and then pick up where you left off in the morning.
02:12 2.- Mastery through modification. Just because something feels simple doesn't mean you have it mastered. A great way to really learn any subject is to use modifications. Just make a small modification to your original routine, it can be that you change the angle you do it, or do it faster, or do a different tool to do it, a minor change plays a critical role, they stop your practice from becoming boring or repetitive.
03:39 3.- Weaving subjects. Interweaving different styles and subjects helps solidify new information in your memory.
04:25 4.- Chewing gum. Chewing gum has all kinds of cognitive benefits. Be more alert and experience less stress. Stay more focus and produce less stress related hormones. Stay calm and help to concentrate. More vigilant and lenghts our attention span. Happy and motivated while working. Learn faster, perform better and concentrate longer.
06:01 5.- Intellectual hydration. A glass of water can boost our brain power. Hydrating helps to digest information, store new memories and solve more complicated problems. Drinking water keeps the brain functioning and quickens the short-term memory and strenghtens the long-term memory.
07:22 6.- Multiple mediums. By blending different learning styles together you activate new parts or your brain, store more sensory information.
08:06 7.- Speed read. The average person can read about 200 words per minute, that's around 2 minutes per page. If you can absorb information faster, you can learn faster, in a matter of weeks you can teach yourself to read between 700 and a thousand words per minute.
08:52 8.- Musical stress relief. Background music to be more productive and/or to concentrate. Music makes the mind more receptive to new information, it also improves memory by engaging different areas of the brain, and it is a major stress reliever, significantly reduces anxiety, increases feelings of relaxation to perform better, boosts your mood, speeds up your cognition, helps to think clearly, to be more confident and productive.
09:49 9.- Practice in pieces. The human brain isn't designed to store massive volumes of infortmation at the same time. Practicing in pieces is such an efficient way to learn, instead of spending a whole day going through all your notes, just go through a few pages each day. If you spend small chunks of information then you'll find yourself retaining a whole lot more.
10:38 10.- The Hard road. Handwrite your notes, it's a lot slower than type and less convenient, but the handwritten notes really stick in your memory. Shortcuts don't always help you learn faster. More often than not, the most challenging path is also the most effective.

Also, the internet is full of people saying they have found a way to become a master in just a few weeks. In my experience these crash courses rarely work .By all means adapt learning and playing techniques to suit your own processes. God knows given my Cerebral Palsy I've had to adapt a lot. However, don't be afraid of the journey. It'll be worth it in the end.

Very true. When I was in the University, if I had a topic that was just difficult for me to understand, I would leave it till midnight. I'ld eat well, sleep early, before 10pm, and set my alarm for 1am. When I wake up, I say my prayers and face that topic. I was always amazed with the level of understanding and retention I used to have between 1am and 4am, and after that, I'ld go back to sleep and wake up around 7am feeling superb.

I use the 'sub-audio' sounds available on CZcams played at very low volume in my head-phones to help me best. I am a Musician and if I use music....oh boy my mind locks onto a part of the music and there goes my focus. I use light weight Phones and I found that having the phones on my ears is also 'comforting'. The massaging of the ear-lobes is known to be a relaxation - de-stressing technique too - so maybe the phones play a role there [It works in my case]

    #11: Practice makes perfect.
I learned through experience that if I am learning a skill as opposed to the raw information of facts and theory, I retain the skill better if I practice what I have learned every so often. Not only do I retain the skill better, I am able to adjust the skill components to my particular task, environment, and situation.
I can imagine an answer: the practice reinforces the skill abstraction that my brain makes and forges better and new pathways towards recapturing the skill when I need it or want it.
Not theory per se just speculation on my part, but, I think, viable.
