Ballet Class - Center work 3 - Dutch National Ballet

- In this intense and difficult times it’s important to stay safe, but also to stay in shape! Therefore we’ve developed a few ‘ballet classes’ for our dancers, but you can join from your living room as well. Ernst Meisner, artistic coordinator of the Junior Company, teaches this ballet class and pianist Rex Lobo accompanies him on the piano. We will stream a ballet barre on CZcams every Monday and Friday and will go live during a class with dancers (via ZOOM) on our Facebookpage Het Nationale Ballet. All classes start at 11am (CET).

Your classes are amazing, program and explanation, guidance. Rex you are so giving with your artistry. Couple of notes to production, please focus camera on Ernst completely when demonstrating, when he talks directly and not moving you can focus on top half. Please hook Rex to your feed, music is faded with Ernst's voice while execution, though love that he provides vocal cues even on left side. I look forward to each episode!

Does anyone know what the adagio music is? :)
I have a silly question...
Why is he not using ballet shoes when he leads this class? Is there a benefit to having that extra heel? I have seen that a lot with teachers, choreographers, and reheasals. Forgive my ignorance. Singer here.
Not a silly question. These shoes are relatively recent. I think these are worn largely for comfort as the heel is cushioned, the sole is split for flexibility and you can perform turns. (I think they are ugly!). Some women teachers wear a 'Grecian sandal' teaching shoe with a heel. Men and women also wear a laced up jazz shoe. A few still wear a soft (demi-pointe) normal ballet shoe such as worn by men or by children starting ballet, or even by ballerinas at the barre before they charge into pointe shoes. It's a matter of personal choice. Take a look at the web sites of major dance wear makers such as Bloch and Capezio for all these shoes.
