Oops, had a bit of an editing mixup with the initial upload of this and somehow lost the most important bit - the OSSC Pro high res mono test! 🙈
This section starts at 13:22, otherwise the rest of the video is the same 🙂

I gave up trying to get mono output via a VGA adapter and just got an SM124 monitor for a similar price to an OSSC. Even now, the picture quality can't be beaten.

Ah, much better ;) The default picture on the Pro is (apart from the positioning) almost perfect. Very encouraging. Any slight vertical artifacting I can see are definitely introduced by my screen. That checkerboard pattern is merciless in uncovering scaling deficiencies, and the weird 8:5 aspect ratio of the high res mode doesn't help.
If I try to dial this in on the old OSSC I can get close, but the image parameters are so far out of spec, that my monitor and capture devices have problems syncing on the signal.

I am very much like you; I just want to hook things up and have them work straight way! 😄 I have managed to get my XRGB mini to work with my ST, but there are some issues left and just haven't bothered to fix them yet. It's also further complicated by the fact that my ST seems to have some sort of odd hardware problems.

I think anyone with an ST or an STe really should upgrade the video DAC in their machines (which is very noisy and simplistic) with the Falcon DAC, Exxos sells kits in his store for a fairly easy DAC upgrade. This not only cleans up the picture in standard outputs, direct to TV/monitor, but it would also greatly benefit the OSSC / Tink.

I have the RetroTINK-4K, and it's amazing. I still want the OSSC Pro just because I like the appearance of the front display screen, which the TINK lacks. Great video!

I own an STE as well, and I know there are cables that have a switch that does allow for either Low/Med or High res. Once I get mine out of FL, I could see what timings are required for the high-res mode on the OSSC. Though for that, I can also see what can be done with my DOS machine. It also runs the same 640x400p70 as ST High.

It looks like OG ossc had sharper image in wolfenstain. The white text at the bottom, i took screenshots of them and the image might be a bit darker on OSSC but it's a bit sharper.

On my OSSC and STE setup, I get a slight shimmer on the picture on low and medium resolution. I didn't see that on your setup, is there some magic setting that stops it or is it just your capture device that prevents it? Thanks in advance for any help!

Curious, what do the "wobbling pixels" look like?

Thanks for this comparison video with the ST as a source! As I often capture demos from ST/Falcon and Amiga with the OSSC (and now also with ODV GBS-C), it would be interesting to see if the OSSC Pro loses sync when demos switching video modes (as the OSSC does, no matter with or without the mentioned hardware mod), resulting in video and audio dropouts. It looks like this: czcams.com/video/mLiy6AgmJro/video.html
At least my new GBS-C solved this problem with my Amiga somehow, but only partially with the ST range.
Ok, you're using mostly default settings in this test, but honestly the Desktop color of the ST is WAY off with the Retrotink! Looks sort of a bright neon green compared to the OSSCs, which display colors quite accurate!
