Not Rated 4hrs 9mins
Cast - Tetsuro Sakagami, Tomoya Okamoto, Yakari Fujimoto and Manoush
Director - Andrey Iskanov
The true history of Japanese Unit 731, from its beginnings in the 1930s to its demise in 1945, and the subsequent trials in Khabarovsk, USSR, of many of the Japanese doctors from Unit 731. The facts are told, and previously unknown evidence is revealed by an eyewitness to these events, former doctor and military translator, Anatoly Protasov. Part documentary and part feature, the story is shown from the perspective of a young Japanese nurse who witnessed many of horrors, and a young Japanese officer who is torn between his sincere convictions that he is serving the greater purpose, and the deep sympathy he feels for an imprisoned Russian girl. His life is a living hell as he's compelled to carry out atrocious experiments on the other prisoners, using them as guinea pigs in this shocking tale of mankind's barbarity. "Philosophy of a Knife" is truly one of the most violent, brutal and harrowing movies ever made.
The film contains about 13,000 special sound effects most part of which is never used twice.
Work on film took four years.

Amazing review. I need to get this for my collection. I am fascinated by Unit 731. In my opinion, the brutal factor is not just there for shock value. It really makes it powerful. The best art makes you reflect on brutal times in history and it humbles you. It's a shame that mainstream folks shy away from movies like this, because I think they are a masterpiece, perfectly depicting real life horrors that took place and capturing the power and emotion that it caused.10 out of 10 review brother. Keep them coming.
You hit the nail right on the head. And thank you big guy. 10 outta 10! I feel like it's one of my best so far.
I finally just saw this.
Afterwards you just make the sort of sigh and go "Well. . . thats a thing that happened."
That’s a fact
@@TheMbrown80 I will admit what brought me back into all these extreme movies was an iceberg but like the ones that are actually worth value, the ones that show the atrocities of humanity that are very in your face are much more like a documentary.
Still though I dont understand like a lot of the imagery here that seems "artistic" The centipede and stuff like that like I cant find any records. I do believe he had to have taken a few liberties with whats going on here.
Then again I dunno I've watched the mexican cartel executions and thought "Well. . . That would be a shitty place to live." So in that vain. . . boy ww2 was a shitty time to live.
I completely agree with you about him probably taking liberties with things that may or may not have happened.
What brought me back into extreme movies was basically these reviews and I wanted to share the things I have and spread the love for some I guess.
Oh boy, those cartel videos are definitely mind blowing and will stick with ya. I do own a couple real gore mixtapes that have lots of different cartel footage. Very gnarly stuff.
Honest to God it had so much filler. This shit could've easily been 90 minutes
@@hyperboliccancers3269 The bits that were longer once you get the point you got it. yes the worm is wriggling oh my goodness its wriggling and. . . now I dont know what I'm looking at okay is it gross? I think its gross? I'm grossed out. No I'm not. I'm confused.
Overall its a good movie. The problem is a lot of it can be chopped out. Its actually a lot like say a burlesque show where someone has done a dance and you know the reveal and once its been done it keeps going for another 2 minutes.
Just a quick question, if I get the movie would it work in my Xbox one? Because it says Xbox one only plays blue ray/ dvd discs sold in the same region as the Xbox, and it says the film is a Russian-American film, so would it work in my xbox?
Xbox One should play it, as I use mine too watch both DVD and Blu. Every once in awhile I did have troubles with certain discs playing. What region does the DVD have?
@@TheMbrown80 I’m not sure, I just got it ordered to my house cuz it’s not on any of the streaming platforms, I did buy it from a guy in the same country as me, (Im american, in the USA.) but yeah just curious, I hope it works in my Xbox
Is it The one have in the video?
@@TheMbrown80 so did you use your Xbox to play the movie too?
@@TheMbrown80 philosophy of a knife?
What band is that on your shirt?, Good review.
It’s actually a shirt for Plot Digger Films
Best place to buy a good copy of this? With actual subtitles to the foreign language parts? They’re crazy high on eBay
Are you region free? If so the release I am showing is a legit director approved release and tends to go for a much cheaper price than the Unearthed Films release of it.
@@TheMbrown80 Yes! I have a region free player. Wasn’t sure about those since they were so much cheaper. What release exactly are you referring to? Thanks so much for answering so quickly. Subscribed
@@TheMbrown80 or do you mean the release you’re showing in your hand in the video?
I was just checking what’s available and not too pricey is the Spasmo release on eBay, it’s a legit Italian release with all the subs
The one in my hand is mid range price outta the 3 release of it and probably the best release of it. I did see they have a few on eBay as well but they’re kinda pricey as well
Great review I have the one disc version of Philosophy of a Knife do you know the difference
The Unearthed films release has special features including the soundtrack and deleted scenes.
The Last Exit release I'm showing also has those same thing plus some never before seen footage. Only downfall is its region 2 dvd.
Matt's movie mania good to know and great channel 😂
Thank you! I try to have some fun material for you daily
You should do a review on Martyrs, SALO, and maybe even Ichi the Killer just some ideas 😂
good review. the editing by the director spoils the entire movie.
Is there a plot in this movie or just scenes? Thanks, man.
It's just scenes strung together to make one extremely long movie
@@TheMbrown80 Thank you, Sir. I guess I'll pass this one.
It's definitely a hard watch because it's so long. It's one I hardly ever recommend because it makes me sense plot wise and has no real film narrative.
Are the scenes real in this film? I couldn't get pass the trailer.
All the scenes are scripted and have special FX. Only real downfall to this one is it’s like 4 and a half hours long
@@TheMbrown80 ok thanks man, i thought the scenes were real from the footage in unit 731. It look pretty real for me

@@TheMbrown80 yep that’s my dn matt take a joke
I enjoyed it. Didn't really bother me. I found it kinda funny, probably because it is cheesy. I feel like I could do worse.
It’s not bad at all, just needs to be a pinch shorter but oh well more gore the merrier. I can see why you laugh at places because some of it’s so over the top silly
