Was the caller wrong for his condescending tone? Yes. Is Dabo losing his composure because the comments are hitting a nerve? Also yes. Clemson has philosophical recruiting and coaching problems and that's on Dabo. He's the reason they had great success, but he's also the reason the team is falling on hard times.
Both things can be true at the same time.
In defense of Dabo, this caller had it coming to him. The entire manner of his call was condescending.

@@michaellawson2778I don’t disagree in some of what you said. We are prisoners of the moment, especially in sports. Dabo raised the bar of expectations at Clemson. What he did with DeShaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence is amazing, but Clemson fans want to see it now. Living in the past doesn’t do it to it. I get that. I also think he responding like this doesn’t exactly shine the finest light on him, he probably should have been better off taking the high road, but I’ll also stick to my guns in saying, the caller kept pushing and pushing. It was almost as though he was wanting that reaction.

Dabo made good points about expectation vs appreciation. Clemson was in the toilet when he arrived and he turned it around. But I can’t help but wonder what Clemson’s record would be if Dabo supported NIL and utilized the Transfer Portal. If a Clemson fan critiques him for those reasons, they have a legitimate gripe. Saban didn’t support NIL or the portal, but adapted when it became a fact of life in college football. If Dabo is nearing the end of his time at Clemson, there’s your reason.
I see the exact same coming from my UGA fans. If the team fails to get a first down, they want Beck benched and Bobo fired.. I know and understand, UGA won’t win every Natty, but most fans think their team should. Good on Dabo. Fans are one of the reasons the Ole Ball Coach left the swamp.
You forgot points allowed. Each year is a different team with different puzzles. UGA has dominated every team. If they expect little no points allowed then it's already started. Then there is SEC play. It's tougher, especially with a target on your back.

15-14 is not a bad record against ranked teams. Especially considering almost all of those are playoffs and major bowl games.

Eh, it’s been the past few (relative to the Watson and Lawrence years). But, many programs would kill to be a perennial 8-4 9-3 or 10-2. Especially when he took that program to that next level.

The downfall at Clemson isn’t just an off year it’s a sign of things to come because of Dabo’s refusal to take advantage of the tools he has available. He can disagree with the transfer portal and NIL all he wants but at the end of the day not using them will only lead to his team being less talented than everyone else.

Had it coming. DABO HAS HAD IT COMING. DABO refuses to use the transfer portal, makes TERRIBLE coaching hires, and has dramatically fallen off since 2019. He's thin skinned and overly sensitive to criticism and this was embarrassing for him. If I was a player at Clemson, I'm in the portal tomorrow. DABO has turned into a joke.

Dabo was spot on right there. Im 43 years old and a Michigan fan and the only thing i rememberd Clemson for before Dabo got there was when Woody Hayes smacked that player! Oh and the pet rock. Clemson was a nobody before Dabo and he should go down as a legend there. Even if he never wins another game he should go down as a legend at Clemson! I am a fan of a mid-major team and my team only had 3 10+ wins in its entire history. To think that fans don't have appreciation after how many 10+ wins is crazy. I will take Clemson's and Dabo's record any day.

I live in clemson, this is just 1 example of the reality. Fans are pissed and not even showing up to games. The ones that do are leaving before halftime. Dabo is losing his fans fast and this makes it worse.
Yeah, Dabo is paid handsomely to do a job. He’s been praised endlessly in the past for his accomplishments - national titles and playoff appearances, etc. Now he wants appreciation when he falters. He is running from the responsibility, IMO. Own up to your shortcomings and say that you’ll do whatever is necessary to get your team back in the playoffs next season. No one feels bad for NBA or NFL players who get criticized when they struggle on the field. Why do we have to coddle a college football coach?

What he's talking about happens to teams with a history of winning... FSU, UF, Alabama, Ohio State. This is nothing new or unique to Clemson or Dabo. He needs to shut up and keep coaching like all the other coaches do. ("The expectation is greater than the appreciation") ... Hmmm, no one appreciates a losing season when the expectation was a conference win... Apples and Oranges Dabo.
I respect Dabo. I truly do... And a lot of what he says is true.. But there are a few things here..
Firstly. for all the folks that believed Dabo would be Saban's successor at Bama, that idea should be tossed in the garbage now. At Bama, there is that expectation that Dabo just spoke about. This confirms that he would not fair very well in THAT pressure cooker.
Dabo is right that consistent success breads an expectation from the fanbase. Kirby actually embraces this.. We all heard Kirby pushing the "Pressure is a privilege" mantra all last season.. And this is the difference in personality that I think will ultimately lead to Dabo's demise.. He got pretty personal and upset with a fan that called out some of the Clemson shortcomings... Dabo's unwillingness to conform to the modern day way of the transfer portal.. Dabo's proclivity to higher internally instead of looking far and wide for the best for a position, etc... I mean, come on Dabo, the caller was a member of our military and served us overseas.. THAT GUY, knows pressure in an environment that is far less forgiving than college football.
So there is truth in both what the caller mentioned and Dabo's response.. But, I personally believe that Dabo's response reveals his tragic flaw that will lead to the end of Clemson's run as an elite team and, ultimately, the end of his career as an elite coach.

I have been hearing fans of Ohio St rag on them all year because their offense isn't scoring as many points.
People even picked Penn St to beat us, but nope we won that game as well.
Is this the best team we've ever had? No.
I do think its more complimentary than scoring 50pts a game and putting your defense on the field over and over, which is what I thought we did too much of scoring in 6 plays.

What people want to know is, how are you going to fix the issues? A person in Dani’s position really needs coaching from the University PR department. The rule is simple, don’t attack the fans. Especially when they attack you.
If you’re the football expert then answer the question from a position of experience and expertise.

I think Dabo’s response was pretty good. Before he came along they were “Clemsoning” all the time. I’m not saying they haven’t “Clemsoned” under Dabo but he got them out of it for the most part.
