Great book for a beginner . czcams.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.
Watched this with my Dad so we could build a workbench in our garage. Can't understand a thing this guy says without subtitles. Still a great video!
😂🤣🤣😂🤣 Is my Irish accent that strong!! lol Enjoy building the bench with your Dad that's great.
Cut the ploywood with the moytersaw, I love the Irish accent almost as much as I love this build.
So do I.
"With a little brute force and ignorance"... my motto for my own workshop!
Great job John, so well done!!!
i wish my workshop was as big as yours id be able to do the same sort of things, keep up the good work
Great ideas, easy to build and cost effective for homeowners or business craftsman as part of shop layout for a PAYOUT PROFFET...
I'm definitely going to upgrade my work bench where I have my mitre saw! Thanks for the inspiration!
Such a nice and simple but sturdy design.👍👍
I really like this 🙋🏻♂️ it’s look really cool
I’m from Slovakia a this is very help me cause There we did ‘t have so much tutorial like this 🤯✊
Thanks for the video. I’ve built the same as your bench just customised measurements around a window in the garage. Might eventually close up the shelves underneath with drawers or cupboards. Used formply for the top. Gives a slippery surface for sliding wood across.
I love the simplicity of this. No faffing around, just get the job done. Excellent.
Glad you liked it!
John, l like your design!!! Looking forward to see what's cooking on your mind!!
This is an awesome build and I love how simple it is. I am trying to get your measurements and wanted to confirm what I heard in the video did you say the internal frame of the workbench is 320mm x 620mm. I have made my first side of the workbench and while I don't need to be exact, I am trying to place a 12" double bevel sliding miter on it and want to make sure there is enough clearance in the back of the bench.
Great build! I’ll be copying this
Nice and simple. The most important it is serve the purpose. And looks well organized space.
Nice workbench simply and easy, thanks i just did the same workbench as you did but i change couple things for looks better 😋
Awesome job sir, I'm building my tiny little woodshop in my garage around this idea. Thanks for step by step how you put it together, and for pointing out your mistakes. Really helpful.
Glad you liked it!
Hey John, I've just replicated your build in my garage. It went well! I only wish I had a floor as level as yours :). All the best.
I had a 10" Dewalt compound miter saw for around 12 years (light duty). It still works great czcams.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe but I wanted something bigger. My only complaint about the 10" was the location of the motor, and this version fixes that issue. The XPS system works well. My only request for future versions is a dust collection port (or adapter) that fits large shop vac hoses (or standard PVC pipe fittings) a little better. But that's not a complaint, just a request.
This is a great video! I’m literally going out now to continue my design with your help. And the accent brings me back to my roots!
Great to hear glad it was useful
Great video! Been working on mine off and on here for a couple weeks. You had some great pointers and ideas to help me get finished up. Appreciate it!
Glad it was useful Chris
Unbelievable job ! Congrats John !!!
Your build was exactly what I was looking for. Modeled a recent basement project on this video. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
So simple yet so strong and organized, Great project
Glad you liked it
This one of the best benches I have seen!!!
Glad you like it
That’s awesome bud. I’ve watched a bunch of these tutorials and this is one of my favorites. I’ll be building my own using a lot of what I’ve learnt from this vid. Big thumbs up!!!
Cheers Mark glad you enjoyed it
Nice, simple, but very sturdy build. Great work.
Thanks Will
John, this video was absolutely what I needed. I really appreciate that you included the mistake about the corners being switched because I know that would certainly happen to me. That was worth its weight in gold right there. Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much John.
Thanks for sharing John, great ideas and I will be trying the workbench design for my home shed.. 👍
Very welcome
I just got a new miter saw for Christmas. I can’t wait to build this table for it.
Nice! Happy Christmas and enjoy the build.
John - this is seriously brilliant. Such a simple design, yet so effective. I've been hunting for a good design to make and this is definitely it. Thanks for the great vid! 👍👏
You are very welcome
Brilliant! You make it look simple, and I think your techniques do make it simpler than most videos. I am a newby woodworker with a very small shed 8x6 to work in, so when I build this, it will be a baby version!
I'm glad you found it useful!
Great build I really need to get my own work bench and mitre station built.
Thanks Cormac.
This by far the easiest and best build of a miter work bench. I am definitely going to incorporate a majority of your ideas in my own build. Mahalos!
Glad it was helpful!
Outstanding!!! I just built my shop and am building it out right now. This is exactly what I am looking for, including the miter station. I would have to add some stops into the top and cross supports to hold an edge stop for cutting long pieces on my miter saw. LOVE IT!! Thanks for your videos!!
No problem Victor glad it was useful
Really fantastic work, John! Looks beautiful and works great! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks, you too!
Just discovered your channel and its rapidly becoming my favourite. No nonsense or flapping about, just getting on and getting things done. The only problem now is you've got a lot more space to fill. Can't be too long before we see a table saw in there... 😉
Welcome along, just might have to get a table saw
Very effective and efficient. I have a tendency to overthink designs and end up shying away from making things, but watching you gives me confidence. I have a number of 4x2 lengths sitting in my shop waiting to be turned into a pillar drill bench...now I know how to do it, so thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Very clean sharp looking work station.
Thank you very much!
Really nice. Going to build this. - Thank you much for the video!
John..best video..exactly what I wanted..very well done and easy to understand...awesome!
Glad you liked it!
Top job mate thanks for sharing, I'm looking for ideas as I'm building a
10m x 6m workshop soon.
I just found your page and I can't wait to get started on some of these projects, I'm new to woodworking by myself but spent many years watching my husband build things, I have a 400 sq ft workshop to get myself set up in and lots of power tools, I just need to get my workspace organized and this video is a great first step for me, thanks so much!
Glad you found it useful, welcome along and best of luck in your new workshop!
@@JohnMcGrathManInShed thank you so much
Good job! I like the way you built the main structure. As far as the mitre saw hood is concerned, I would lower it to reduce the open front area. The dust extraction would benefit from this.
Thanks
I loveeeee that you show the slight errors that you made .. I do the “exact measurement” error many times .. love that you’re human too .. lol
Great build, and thanks for sharing! This helped me put together something similar in my garage.
Glad it helped!
Brilliant job John. great video thanks
Very welcome
Nice one John - inspired me to finally get on and build a proper station myself
Glad it was useful
Awesome video! Love your style and easy presentation skills! Great work and advice. Thanks pal
Very welcome
Very nice work indeed.....
Hello from Virginia, USA. I make very similar work benches. I start with the 2x4 shelves and just make something similar to how’d you frame out a wall. Two long pieces lengthwise, short pieces going up and down. But instead of doing L bracket legs, I just use a single 2x4 on the ends and put in pieces to fit between the shelves. This acts as half lap joints. Very conservative on the amount of materials used, and very strong.
Sounds great!
Very nice! I especially appreciate your "no nonsense" approach with an eye towards cost effectiveness! I will definitely be watching for more videos from you, John and will catch up on existing ones.
sorry to be off topic but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Heath Remington Instablaster ;)
@Johnny Ricardo i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im trying it out now.
I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Johnny Ricardo it worked and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass!
@Heath Remington You are welcome :D
Fabulous job 🇨🇦
Awesome MtrSaw….station…hell yeah !
I really like this build you did and I really like that you put your tool chest in it like that. I am going to steal this idea for my radial arm saw table build. I am so strapped for space in my garage its not funny. Thanks for the idea! You gained a follower !
Very smart John great idea put in the toolbox is in it :-)
Hey John, another great build. Have you ever thought about using 3x2 scant for you framing, it would save you a bit of money. Thanks for sharing
Looks absolutely great.
I had a good chuckle when you said, "the shop is in a complete mess and I can hardly move in here."
I'm in a 1 car garage and building a camper. Probably about a half meter around it to move about :D
John that was great Thanks
Good job thank you for your help
No problem 👍
Great use of available space and certainly economical! Best of both worlds, eh??
Wicked, John. Love the tune playing at the end there.
Bravo complimenti!!!
Bravo John... Grazie
Brilliant project, just started building this myself, but I can’t work out how you get two shelves from one piece of ply like yours the top is 700mm but that only leaves 520mm which works out 100mm to short along the long side as the measurement is 620mm
Thanks
Tony
Looks great
Great design, I'm looking upgrade my shop.
Glad you found it useful.
Something to add that you'll probably find helpful would be fence extensions on either side, to help you align longer parts and as a place to clamp stop blocks for long pieces. There'd likely be enough room in front that you could use the grinder there. Or you could make the fence removable by bolting it down to threaded inserts in the table top.
Just a notion.
I thought about it but the only fences that matter for accuracy are the ones on the mitre saw and I wanted clear worktops, I might still put in t-tracks for stop blocks.
Two tums up! Nice work.
Some great ideas. Thanks
Glad you like them!
It's just amazing...
RN I'm doing traditional woodworking cause I don't have enough money nor room for big saws (and I leave in an apt so I dont want to make too much noise)... And every time I watch U I really think about the difference between the two... I really want some electrical saws but I really think that the most important thing is the fun of working with wood....
And I have a question - Is the workbench strong enough? the table top for example is held only by screws, the legs dont directly support it
Love your vids man!
Nice build. Great video.
Thanks!
Great job, sir!
Glad you liked it!
Cool Mitre Station John, loads of tool space and surface area. Great job 👍
Thanks 👍
Excellent bench John
Nicely done
Thanks!
Looks good John
I liked how he showed is little mistakes.
Verry onest. Good job bro.
thanks glad you enjoyed it
Cheers. You made that look so easy. Nice design by the way.
It is easy, give it a go.
@@JohnMcGrathManInShed I will. I have just bought a circular table saw.
👍
Nice build mate, I’m doing mine this weekend this helps a lot!
Cheers, I'm glad you found it useful
Thats a really great job, those stands take a lot of room up. I have the dewalt one, great for site work awful for the workshop
Thanks 👍
Hello! Love the video tutorial. I just went out and bought the materials to make this build. One question; what is the measurement depth of this bench? Thanks.
Super useful info, I gave you the “tums up.”
Thanks David glad you liked it
Enjoyed you accent and planning!
Thank you! 😃
Absolutely a fantastic job you have done, looks really great …. Cheers from Australia …
Thanks Rodney glad you liked it
love it! another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great project john. The thing about these projects for yourself and these life quirks is there your own. For a sparkie you have a good grasp of the woodwork and thats coming from time served chippie. As an FYI. All timber these days here is PAO or planed all over. This reduces the 4x2 to the smaller dimensions but your right to measure your pieces to the project and take nothing for granted.
Also, just to add another youtuber "I like to make stuff" has a great concept for more saw station cowl and tool storage
Cheers Dave
Smashing job John. Maybe add a t track, stop block and adhesive mounted tape measure - makes repeated cuts so easy.
Thanks John, t track is on the list.
Really nice build mate, my congrats!
Thanks!
great job man.
Great job. Real Nice shop
Thanks 👍
Hi John great video thank you for showing the build. Can you do a video on your dust extraction system that would be great!
I have a couple of videos on it if you check through my uploads.
Love that you mentioned a Rory Gallagher song
Ho copiato il tuo progetto e il risultato è stato ottimo. Grazie per i tuoi preziosi consigli.
AWESOME MATE😊
Hi John It's Rich here from west Wales many thanks to you for your inspiration for me to build 3 planters one work bench and an 6 ft lounger keep up the good work. Ps I am a Jameson drinker iechyd da.
My pleasure Richard, great to hear the videos were helpful. Enjoy your Jameson!
Nice job!
Nice build. I wish you'd shown us how well the dust collection worked
I had recorded it but it didn't make the cut its hard to know what to leave in and take out, it will be in my up coming videos when I'm using the mitre saw.
