I'd encourage everyone to go and check out the full story for those who just want a breakdown, basically, whilst the story behind Teddy's bear and the stuffed bears on the toy window did indeed happen in America, the very first Teddy Bear as we know them today was made by a German woman, Mrs Steiff, who I believe came up with a new way to sow elephants (don't quote me on that cause my memory's alittle hazy and that might not be the full truth). Basically one day she decided to make a tiny stuffed bear that had moveable joints based on her nephew's design, and once it was done it became the world's first teddy bear. The bear went largely unnoticed at first, but one another member of the Steiff family took this toy bear to a fair and an American business man ordered 3000 of. From there the became coined as the teddy bear and got so popular in America that they reached best seller status in America which was remarkable for a small German business, by 1907 they had sold 1 million Teddy bears. So yeah, as I said read the full story for yourself, not just because Mrs Steiff is a decently interesting person who worked so hard to bring joy to others despite having an illness that left her in constant pain, but also because most of what I wrote was typed from memory and I may have made mistakes, feel free to correct me if you find any
Mostly correct, great stuff! Small corrections, and some extra info I found on the company's website (which has a really great timeline with lots of pics, wish I could link it... Easy find on Google). Margerete didn't just have an illness, she survived POLIO as a BABY! The 3,000 Steiff bears were sold to the American toy dealer in 1902. The "Teddy bear" didn't come about until 1906. Steiff also collaborated with Disney, beginning in 1931. They still do, and the company now has a North American division. As of the day this comment was written, we are counting down 19 days to the Steiff company's 176th birthday.

I'm very glad this video has what is bascially high-quality captioning that works even if your video quality is bad and compressed. The subtitles are clear to read in the video itself, and even if you can't read it due to low quality video, the captions system on CZcams is exactly the same as in-video, and will always be crisp and clear. A great way to have captions that fit the video aesthetic AND be clear!
clicked for the "full video" for the full explanation and just got a slightly different version of the short. do what you want, but maybe consider making the full video have the full explanation of whatever you are talking about if you end the other video with it being cut off and then put a link to the full video at the top of the comments
Same here. Tldr based on her Wikipedia page is that she originally created all the samples of the stuffed toys. Her nephew, Richard Steiff, designed 'Bear 55 PB', the first stuffed toy with movable joints. Initially there wasn't much interest in the stuffed toys, but at a market in Leipzig they caught the attention of an American buyer who bought 3000 bears. These bears became a bestseller in the USA and would later be known as the "Teddy Bear".
I watched the short and was hoping this video would give the full story, considering that the comment with the link to this video said "Full length video here" But, it cuts off the story at the same point, with the same joke. Yeah, we get it, hah hah, American's only care about America. But for feck's sake, some of us want to actually learn a bit, but screw us I guess.
