- The full english breakfast is one of the most popular meals out there but which UK supermarket makes the best version? I head inside 2 of the biggest UK supermarkets to try out their full english breakfasts to see who is best!

Tesco Extra in Salisbury has the same layout (café upstairs), it's a basic breakfast that you can add to but it's 70p per extra item, so nearly £10 for a proper breakfast.
Sainsbury's did look the better option 👍

When it comes to baked beans Waitrose essentials takes it for me. Also as much as I love a hash brown it’s not traditional,
Missing mushrooms and tomatoes defo a problem.
What's traditional, just sausage, bacon, egg and toast?
Fry up is traditionally: toast, bacon, sausage, tomato, beans, mushrooms, black pud, and egg.
Everyone is adding in hash now which I don't mind since I love hash browns, but they're not the "traditional" version. Same with places doing sourdough when it was always typical slices
Herby sausages would most likely be Lincolnshire sausages. Cumberland sausages are peppery.
I agree on the Saino's breakfast looking the better overall, and probably a bit better value. I'm not a fan of hash browns on a breakfast myself, but the Tesco ones did look good.

The Sainsbury’s fried eggs are so round because they crack them into metallic rings and fry them, I think.

I must say I lean toward the Tesco breakfast myself. Also the BUTTER I believe is shaped in a mould after being scooped from the tub. I really like it that way as it saves on plastic waste which is spot on
Thats a good point saving on plastic as alot of place would have it in the sealed tubs
The butter is sold frozen in these shapes
Actually no, when I was eating at a hotel they simply had a machine for it. Press the bottom and it shapes you a perfect cold butter flower. 🤗 it comes out like that.

Used to do butter like that in a piping bag with a star shaped end when I was a chef.

Both were pretty meagre. The Tesco one didn't even have any mushrooms, tomatoes (fresh or tinned) or black pudding; which they both missed. For £7 you know it's all profit for the shop. A local cafe will give you also fried bread and other trimmings. Tesco gave you one sausage! I've not got a big appetite, but I could finish both of those. They would be classed as a small breakfast in a proper cafe, and would heavily disappoint all of my kids who are in their thirties.
A good channel on UK breakfasts, but you will soon run out of supermarkets and their poor and expensive breakfasts. It will be more interesting if you start on local cafes across the different regions. A breakfast used to be the largest meal for the day to keep you going all day, with a top-up at midday and another top-up at the evening. I know not now, but that is why we have a FULL breakfast.

Yet to watch.. Traditionally Sainsbury's is more preferential to shop in. It's a cut above Tesco & it'd be hard to find anyone who'd choose to shop in Tesco ahead of Sainsbury's if money wasn't an issue.
I used to eat regularly at a Sainsbury's when it suited with my daughter.. The food & service was always good. But staff cut backs eventually impacted the quality.

A few supermarket cafes have closed near me which is why I had to go to Harrogate

I much prefer Tesco. I think Sainsbury's brag about their quality, but in reality, I find their products quite poor. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Sainsbury’s….Black pudding, mushroom AND an extra sausage but only one hash brown.
Tesco - no mushroom or tomato. really only 7 items. £7.15.
Sainsbury's - 10 items. £7.05 the tomato should have been cut across. and not just halved it would look better.
the egg is cooked in a metal ring. to make it round.
the Sainsbury's gave more items so offered a better deal but still spending over £7 is a lot for just a few items
I think £7 is the cheapest supermarket breakfasts I've had but yes you can get cheaper ones
Didn't think Sainsbury’s were still doing breakfasts as they've closed loads of their cafes including the one in my Town.
Some still do, I travelled to Harrogate for this one
I prefer the Sainsbury’s breakfast you get more for your money but what’s missing is black pudding but overall good breakfast 🍳 for your money

So far as I am concerned NO full English breakfast is a proper breakfast without Black Pudding. I have also never understood why all these providers give you toast. For me - Fried Bread every single time, although very few outlets do it these days.
Could you maybe do a breakfast test for McD's , burger king , tim hortons , Kentucky or whatever is near to you , taste test the coffee too i think that's a winner video ....although you may need a lie down after ..and a diet !

Again a very helpful video, I was surprised that you had no brown sauce, some prefer tomatoe ketchup, anyway good video, I prefer thick slices of toast so I'd go with the sainsbury breakfast.

Tesco. No mushrooms, tomatoes or black pudding. But other than that looked ok 6/10 cost reasonable for what you got

No black pudding on either - travesty! Perhaps now you should do Morrisons vs. Sainsbury’s as both came out on top against Asda and Tesco respectively.
I think i should but I might pick different supermarkets as a few people have said its different where they are, so maybe they're different at different stores
you can buy small round frying pans if you want to make eggs like that at home, in a commercial kitchen I imagine they use a cookie cutter on a flat top grill and drop the egg into the cookie cutter.
I would be happy with either breakfast 😜

Well done quite a moorish video. Both looked very tasty guess the secret is in who's cooking them. The Tesco breakie looked well cooked but lacked mushrooms, tomato. Sainsbury with a fuller plate would have shaded it for me with more on the plate. Both lacked fried bread, the toast on the side for me although guess can request some extras . Just shame more Supermarkets don't have a modest cafe/restaurant am sure would be profitable.

Sainsbury's breakfast looks much better than Tesco's although I have not eaten but presentations alone is superbly layout.
When we were in England in the '90s, TESCO's Breakfast had at least one slice of tomato with it. IDK if Sainsbury was even a thing back then, but being the newer company, I'm going to say that they probably copied TESCO for the most part. But Sainsbury does look like the better breakfast in your illustration and for a better price!

Sainsbury would win for me. The only way to get an egg round is to break it into a ring on the frying pan.

@@everydayimeating3407 I work at this Sainsbury's and yeah we have a tray with circular dimples in it and they are cooked in the oven
I suggest trying Brewers Fayre for breakfast. It’s all you can eat for £10, you can have cooked and continental. It’s really nice.

I had a breakfast at a Tesco whilst waiting for an MOT on my car. Massive rip off. I didn't want a tea so opted for a can of Pepsi max. I was charged £1.60 for the can. If I had stepped 30 yards to the left and bought a can in the store it was 80p. The breakfast itself was awful cold and bland. I think I was charged £9-10. Waste of money, never going back. But thankfully my car passed.
Sainsbury's for me. 8.5/10. xx

Too much attention paid to a none English Breakfast item , hash browns are a plate filler and great to see Sainsbury's only gave you one but added a tomato , a Portobello mushroom and two sausages but charged you less.
Tesco just taking the proverbial with their content and price 🤣
When Tesco did their 7 item breakfast it was buy one get one free. Now that was value. No Hash Browns but fried bread heaven

Any self respecting full English is;
a decent cooked Lincolnshire sausage cooked properly all the way around.
back bacon with colour,
fried egg, runny yolk with crispy bottom.
Black pudding
Fresh cooked tomatoes(none of the tinned tomato rubbish)
Mushrooms
Fried bread (which some might substitute for toast)
Baked beans... proper, not watery.
Hash browns crispy.
Brown sauce!
Pancakes and chips have no place on a proper English breakfast!

@@jasonwandererssimplesystem675 tinned tomatoes taste so metallic. You have to add a bunch of sugar or other ingredients to make them any good in any cuisine.

I'd have to go with the Sainsbury's breakfast here, at least it had a decent mushroom on, but Tesco's didn't have any tomatoes on at all, not even a pesky half one. Both would be better with tinned plum tomatoes though.
I've never been to a Sainbury's cafe. My nearest Sainbury's used to have a cafe, but it was really awful and didn't do breakfasts at all. It closed may be last year or so. If it had done proper food instead of only those poncey sandwiches, wraps and stuff, it may have done better and survived. Nice video.

Since covid lots of their restaurants have closed
I find tescos's cafe areas and meals really poor, supermarkets have such a captive audience if they made more effort they would be a money machine for them.
You never get fried bread any more these days...i prefer that to hash browns...!

M & S has outstanding quality but anyone who says it's cheap, obviously earns a lot more money than i do, or there not in the real world, and yes, Sainsbury's is a bit pricey but everywhere is now, but the quality of food is excellent.
Either way, it's missing the black pudding. Can't have a proper full English without the black pudding.
Tesco is also missing the grilled tomato and mushrooms. I would rather have my toast buttered for me and a small pot of jam on the side. I like my toast with butter and jam.

I had a breakfast st Tesco Loughboro a month ago. Tasteless and white bread even though I asked for brown. Not busy but managed to get it wrong. And lukewarm. Won't return

Supermarket breakfasts are gash... proper greasy spoon cafe with fried bread,black pudding, tinned tomatoes, beans, egg,mushrooms,sausage,bacon, n a controversial side of chips n toast and don't forget a yorkshire tea😂

The sainburys deffo looks better the tesco one looks like a kids meal 1 sos and 1 bacon. I hate mushrooms id try and get some black pudding instead.

Tesco bacon was underdone for me. Where are the tomatoes? Sainsburys bacon also looked underdone as does the tomato. Neither for me.

What's the difference between chips and hashbrowns? They're both potatoes. Potatoes and beans are both native to the Americas, not the UK. So give up those baked beans and have your fish minus the chips mate.
