    One tip: turn crankshaft or camshaft pulley clockwise 'only' to align those marks.

    These bolts you can get at Home Depot for 2$ if your kit doesn’t have those bolts. I bought 2- 6M - 75mm long. And 4 washers to keep them from sliding past the holes. Thanks for this vid bro.

    A Milwaukee cordless impact will break that crank bolt loose with ease. starter bump method works 95% of the time, I usually use that first especially on Hondas.

    THESE ENGINES LAST 500k or more. THE ONLY THING LIKE WITH ANY CAR IS THE SEALS GO BAD WITH YEARS OF AGE, BUT IF YOU HAVE THIS CAR AND ARE THINKING ABOUT REPLACING THE SEALS CAUSE ITS LEAKING ITS ABSOLUTELY A NO BRAINER,GO AHEAD AND REPLACE ALL THE SEALS CAUSE AFTER YOU DONE YOUR NOT GONNA NEED ANY OTHER CAR FOR YEARS AND YEARS! U REPLACE ALL A SEALS IN 2001 CAMRY IT IS SO WORTH IT CAUSE U WILL NEVER WORRY ABOUT ANY LEAKS AGAIN AND YES THESE CARS LAST LIKE 500K TO 600K MILES. There freaking tanks!!!!

    My son’s 97 Camry has a blown engine and having trouble removing the pulley bolt. Will use your method, glad the engine still turns over to this procedure.

    I just don't have the patience or time anymore to do jobs like this. I bite the bullet and pay a shop nowadays. Hey at least I have NO car payments!

    The bolts for the alternator are NOT all 14mm. Only the pivot bolt (towards the rear of the car) is 14mm. The other 2 are 12mm.

    4:48 ~ Technically speaking, it's the Harmonic balancer bolt, but potato, potawto.... Also, there is a MUCH easier way to do this beyond using bolts and angle iron to make a tool.

    Lol you made the bracket removal seem a lot harder than it was, I just used a 14 mm wrench lol

    Great video. I recently changed the oil pump seal on my 97 camry and i replaced the timing belt while I was in there. Now the car won't start so im thinking that i didnt set the timing properly. I tried to start the car 3-4 times and it cranks but doesnt start. My question is could i have caused damage in the engine by cranking it while the timing was off?

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  Před 5 lety +1

      Not on this engine. This is a non-interference engine.

    • @johncottingham8987
      @johncottingham8987 Před 5 lety +1

      Check wiring and make sure nothing was disconnected. If timing is off one or two teeth engine should still pop or sound like it might start. If it doesn't do anything timing might be really far out.

    So can I just take off the alternator to do the water pump or do I have to do everything else as well. I only need to change the pump

    • @Ghosts-jx7dw
      @Ghosts-jx7dw Před 3 lety

      You might as well change everything else if the engine is opened up buddy.

    • @Bearsarecutesomuch
      @Bearsarecutesomuch Před 2 lety

      No you have to take the timing belt off to get access to the water pump

    You can reuse headbolts. I had 10 thou shaved off head cause of boil. All acid washed etc, all parts were good.@ 317,000, expecting 1,000,000 ks. New radiator,water pump,thermo,rad cap,rear shocks. Tows 650kilo caravan. Yee ha.cost me 250 bucks.

  • @kotae764
    @kotae764 Před 3 lety

    I did the same thing with an ignition bump but now the engine won't turn over properly without locking up or almost locking up. Thinking I might have messed up the flywheel but idk.

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  Před 3 lety

      I doubt if the bump did that. More likely maybe something else in the timing belt replacement is off a bit.

  • @crabapple6775

    @ 4:27 I see a the line of gray soft caulk like 'sealant' that runs along the edge of the timing cover. You can see it just below your left hand.
    It is about 3/8" wide and it runs all around the top and bottom covers. It stays super soft and spongy when dry.
    Do you know the name of that 'sealant' or 'caulk' and where I can get it ?
    Or do you know of something else I can use in its place?
    Much of mine is missing.

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  Před 2 lety +1

      I don't, but it reminds of the sealant used on the outside seams of campers. It's called lap sealant and sold by a company called Dicor.

    Is it difficult to get the crankshaft sprocket off? I think my leak maybe coming from there. I've seen your other video on the seals and you skipped that part.
