  • In this short teaching, Mingyur Rinpoche discusses the difference between normal awareness and meditative awareness. As he explains, we can cultivate meditative awareness by using every aspect of our experience as a support for awareness, even painful feelings and challenging emotions. This enables us to remain centered throughout the ups and downs of our lives. This teaching was originally presented as a free monthly teaching on the Tergar Learning Community: learning.tergar.org/course_lib...
    This video includes subtitles in English, Japanese, and Spanish.

    I get it now: in meditation we are adding another layer of awareness directing it towards our awareness -that’s why any object is useful for meditation - this way we are exercising the mind. With practice we can get more and more familiar with this second layer of awareness and that leads to calm and profound understanding of the nature of things .

      @@ashcoorg3600 Most meditation techniques provide you with something to "do", like chant a mantra, or imagine a candle, or focus on an idea. This meditation technique is useful because it is a "letting go" of thoughts, concepts, mantras, etc. and just being aware of your presence. After one practices simply "being" without resistance, for a period of time, the mind can become clear like water.

      A better thing to say might be: you can learn to live with things whichever way they are. You can observe life, watch it unfold, remaining always aware and present so that you can act with clarity and intelligence.

    There is a great difference between secular teachings of mindfulness and those speaking from direct realisation of their essential nature that is awareness. The former is dry and lacks passion, based on using mindfulness as a technique to prop up an already struggling ego. The latter is about ego death and fully living from the absolute truth of what one is, which is always aware, empty and one with all experience. Thank God for teachers like this who don’t give a pale version of truth but transmit the full grace of what all the great spiritual teachers from all traditions have, which is our fundamental nature. Awareness is always the case, we just need to stop identifying as the images and labels we have picked up along the way and rest in the direct experiential truth that we are 🙏🏻

  • @RodMartinJr
    @RodMartinJr Před 3 lety +1

    Very nice. In 1968, one day, I was feeling very groggy, with very little energy. I decided to examine this uncomfortable state. For some reason, I pictured my viewpoint of awareness moving out in front of my body's face and looking back toward the source of that viewpoint of awareness. Suddenly, all grogginess had vanished. I felt full of energy.
    Genesis 1:3 tells us that God said, Let there be light. But what was this light? This was before there were stars, like the sun. This was before even time and space existed. This was during the creation phase -- building the template of existence. This "light" was none other than awareness. And darkness is a lack of awareness. This darkness is the essence of everything evil. But even evil is useful. The essence of time itself is one of removing the awareness of creation. Conversely, the process of as-it-ising (or vanishing) is one of taking full responsibility for an object or creation; this removes the time dimension from that object or condition. This is what Christ referred to as "knowing the truth" and being "set free."
    Perhaps we can say that one form of awareness is egoistic -- as a cog in the machine of dichotomous, action-reaction physical existence. This is the state of being at-effect -- the Effect Mode of existence, with zero free will. The other form of awareness is the perfection of awareness, or paramita awareness, full of freedom -- freedom to create or to vanish the objects and conditions of creation.
    This second form of awareness is one of zero ego -- that rare state right in the middle, between aversion, fear or anger and desire.

But . . . in neither consciousness is there an "I". There is no "I". Level 1 is raw, brute lifeforce without agency. Level 2 is awareness of Level 1 also with no "I". Dispense with notions of "I". The universe is determined and there is no free-willing agent within you. I still consider myself to be a novice when it comes to meditation, but it's a bit like realising that your thoughts are not of your doing. You can for example decide not to have any thoughts, and then you will soon realise that it is not possible, and thoughts still flow in your awareness. But you can watch them "from a distance". For myself, I realise it's as if there is this commentator on everything that's going on in my awareness. For example, I can be in a session of meditation, and I might feel like it's a good session of meditation, and suddenly my thoughts go like "this is a good session of meditation", and it might instantly be followed up with "whoops, now I'm commentating on my experience", and before I know it, I'm already imagining myself explaining that exact moment to some person in the future in my mind (which is both interesting and weird). Then I might find it funny for a moment, and then I try to bring my focus back to the breath.
      I have gotten better at realising when thoughts like these suddenly appear, and then I just try to observe them, let them go, and bring my focus back to something else. But the more I meditate, the more I become aware of what is actually happening in my mind.

      Being aware of what your mind is doing in the moment. So if you think, being aware of the act of thinking, when you a feeling like anger is coming up being aware of the feeling starting and going, when a perception of something comes up or anything part of conditioning, being aware of that. When you can be aware or mindful of yourself as much as possible during each and every day, spiritual progression is inevitable and so is wisdom.

    Very good to talk about meditations when you are single no wife nor children not even God. But when you have families you have no time to meditate but just to be busy with life full of responsibilities. And when you have God you would have to th8nk about Him and His love His mercy His Holiness and to see ourself that we are not Holy like Him and not good and perfect like God, but full of sinful life, that we need to be come pure as clear water and to do away with our sinful ways and thoughts. Meditations can't make us Holy but knowing God's Holiness can draw us to Him for His Power to become pure like a Cristal clear water.

    As a newbie, I think what you're saying is difficult but if I do this regularly I might get the hang of it. I wanted to meditate but I had no idea how and then I suddenly saw your video. Thank you.

    It's funny because once I got trauma induced DPDR I also became really aware of my awareness and suddenly everything feels really far away and surreal and life has no meaning anymore because I realized meaning is just a social construct and this is the story of how I got into absurdism, thanks for coming to my tedtalk
