I was just gonna say the opposite. It seems insane to allow that. Not only because there's already enough dog hair everywhere and you don't need a giant animal dragging its butt on a counter where food often is. Also because it shows there are no boundaries and your pets just walk all over you.

@MartianMurray Yep, and dogs also have beds- on the ground. I grew up with Rottweilers and now have a mini Schnauzer. Their place is NOT on countertops where food is prepared and served. That dog was super large (size doesn't matter) and hairy... and it is disgusting to consider the hair, skin cells, oils, etc., that are left behind and spread to dishes and food.
Not ONLY that, but it's incredibly UNSAFE. Dogs roll and fall [off things]. Risking the safety of the animal is not cool. All it takes is a sudden move, nails slide, and the dog falls off a 3 to 4 1/2-foot-high countertop?! Explain that to a vet who will likely look at you crazy, too.
We can agree to disagree because debating about it won't change the fact that it's improper, unsafe, and unsanitary; it won't change our minds about it, either. 🙂

That's funny. My French bulldog just learned how to open my gate. There's even a button at the top you push, then swipe over 2 open gate. That little stinker she can open the gate faster than I can, lol.
